Great demonstration with a wide variety of test panels / colors. You've helped me decide on some techniques for my next custom bicycle build this summer. Nice job of explaining your process, and how the panels appeared in 'real life'. Well done!
Never use two brands mixed. They are different consistency and formula. It’ll never fully look right if you do this. Sure the samples look decent but if you did this on a frame with or without some primer you’re done for. Only use metal cast with the metal cast chrome base coat as a primer. Read the can !!!!
You should try a black primer, then use the silver flake base coat, for the color coat put on anodized red by duplicolor, finally finish it off with a few coats of clear. I'm interested to see how that would turn out.
Fosho Bro...Thanks for testing these out for us...I use the glitter rattle paint cans on my projects.. I'M definitely going to try the transparent paint! THANKS AGAIN
When you use glitter you've gotta sand afterwards so be ready because it takes a lot of sanding and a lot of clear in order for it to come out perfectly smooth. A lot of work but when doing so you'll end up with something above and beyond the average paint color. Your video just made so much sense of my cold feet without having someone around to reassure me that I'm doing shit right. I just need to do what you've done so I get to know my way around mixing up paint and whatnot. Great video!!!
Man you use the exact colors I've been debating on using and spraying my bike purple or blue. candy👍👍👍👍 You just made one of my dreams a rReality. Great Job Bro. Now I'm thinking about pink ..... COTTON CANDY !!!!!!!🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂!
@@TimeLapseCarGuyBruno I’m a guitar builder in my old age, trying to find less dramatic ways of doing dramatic finishes. This looks pretty interesting without having to do mixing, flake guns, spray booth, and on and on.
Very cool. Would have liked to see it with the duplicolor metal cast ground/base coat. The way they recommend you do it as a comparison to these. Very cool though, neat idea!
I suppose blue metalcast first & the yellow metal cast is supposed to make a dark green, maybe close to emerald. If the other way around a lighter green. And green metal cast over blue might give you turquoise. This was based on a different brand, so testing it myself. They have shadow paint to tint it. You can black marbelize it under the coating, you could paint lace with black before applying, or with a special fertilizer solution technique over silver, can create crystal throughout coating before applying.
Great examples for the metal cast paints, am thinking about using the purple for my granddaughter's comuter case, it's black metal, so I think it will look cool but wonder how it will turn out on black instead of the silver or gold. Think it might be a darker purple but I guess I will just have to try it and find out. Thanks for the demostration of the various colors...I wanted to see how the purple would turn out.
It's also great for tinting taillights. I wasn't a fan of the amber part of the taillights on my car, so 2-3 coats of red metal cast and a couple coats of clear on the amber part and it's now red like the rest of the taillight. It's great for the vw guys, tinted taillights cost a ton for those if you can even find them.
A big like for all your efforts and giving my next guitar paint job a cool look with that glitter and trans paint. Think I’ll sand the glitter a bit then finish with the clear. Gotta protect it. Thanks man. And for the others out there with good info, too.
If you talk to car show builders/painters, you will find out that candy colors look BEST over a gold base......Traditional "candy apple red" is a gold base, with clear red over the top....And it works best with other clear colors as well....From George Barris to Darryl Starbird, its how they did it......
I need some help so I recently bought the anodized orange from dupli color and when I spray it comes out watery but the nozzle is super weird I’m not sure what to do, could you maybe let me know. When I spray it squirts out instead of a regular paint can it comes out smooth.
If it's running your are holding the can to close and trying to get to much coverage to fast. Light coats from a distance. Wind will decrease proper spray painting as well.
I'm building a barrel smoker and used an emery disc to take the paint off and it gave me this unexpected polishing look that I wouldn't mind seeing. I'm going to be using high temp paint, obviously. Top and bottom section of the barrel I'm doing gloss black but want it to fade into the middle with a transparent purple or blue and still see the polishing from grinding. Any suggestions or am I wasting my time. Thanks for your videos love them
im not sure how hot those areas will get but this metalcast paint might not be durable enough if it gets too hot.. you can try doing it on a small portion of the area to test it out.. if it doesnt affect it much you might be ok.. or you might have to just paint over it with the black hi-temp if the metalcast doesnt react well to the heat. thanks for watching.. good luck on your project!
Think those will hold up painting a car with? Trying to paint my truck with the mixture of blue and purple. I painted my motor with those 2 colors and came out sick
It would be a lot of spray cans to do a whole truck.. I think this stuff works best on smaller parts.. you could do all the trim pieces on the truck.. that could still be pretty cool.. or even do some interior trim..
For painting on aluminum do you have to use self etching primer? Because I wanted to also use a transparent paint so if I have to put that primer I would probably have to use metallic under the blue
I just painted aluminum with Dupli Color Anodized spray paint yesterday. Do not use primer. Just spray the bare aluminum. If you can, wash your piece with soap and water first and remove all waxes. A few pieces of advice for ya from my experience: 1) This paint is pretty "watery" compared to regular rattle can spray paint so it runs VERY easily. So apply it in very light coats. 2) It takes about 4 light coats and 1 medium coat to get good coverage, but don't go too heavy as this product also "orange peels" very easily. Then you have to strip it and start over. 3) 1 can does not get you very far (you go through a lot of your can for little coverage) I only painted 5 smaller pieces and it took 3 11oz cans! At $11/can I have $33 in this paint to cover 5 modest size pieces. I will say, if you do it right, it does look pretty darn good. However, it does take a little practice. GO SLOW!
no primer, just make sure the bare metal is clean of oil n dirt, use a solvent to wipe the bare metal(mineral spirit/ rubbing alcohol) and avoid touching the bare metal with your fingers.. use rubber gloves.. the oils from your fingers can potentially create whats known as "fisheyes" in the paintjob. thanks for watching.
You need try real metal flake sprayed over with clear primer/adhesion promoter then commence with the candy color, to see if how it would look with out to much wait time or much sanding, Needs done in thin coats. Or stick with a 2 part clear. This is a quick method, not perfect.
Id like to.. I just don't have a spray gun etc.. my video is for a easier approach.. not every1 knows how to spray real metal flake.. but I bet the results would be awesome!
@@TimeLapseCarGuyBruno im getting into candy color art & will be using a adapter for air brush to apply the metal flake...i think the effect is magnificent with .008 & .015 metal flake combined. I haven't decided wheather pearl effects are desirable.
