Always been a fan of the low comp motors for the street. With good heads mild hydraulic cam (less than 0.550 lift) and intake they always performed well, we’re ultra reliable and ran on no more than mid grade fuel. They all but one got reasonable fuel mileage. My friends were always dealing with poor fuel, detonation, blown head gaskets, burned pistons, burned valves and got rotten fuel mileage. But they did develop more hp. It all boils down to how much maintenance do you wish to tolerate for the maximum performance you can get from any combination. Different strokes for different folks. What ever works best for you is the way to go. Thank you for your video. I really enjoyed it.

Being the BBC's an engine that has cylinder head design flaws, with short/long runners and feeding the center of the cylinder on four bores... while the other four cylinders are fed into the cylinder walls... I'm suspect to gains being favorable from the four deprived cylinders through velocity gains, resulting in improved volumetric efficiency to the four slightly starved bores. (short intake runners, not so short with a ram)

In theory, the air has to accelerate in order to go around the throttle plate at part-throttle on a dominator, which has a similar cross section to a wide-open 650. So, would a 1/2 throttle pull on a dominator deliver the same performance as a wide-open 650 on a really basic SBC with some adapter plates?

Stupid short story here , back about 16 years ago I was at a car show in Edmonton Alberta ( Canada ) ..... planet earth.... anyways from about 500 feet away I hear this split bumper Camaro coming into the car show ( very cool car ) it had a Ridiculously large Pro Stock style hood scoop on it and you could look into the scoop , you'd see two carbs Linkages , and that was about all you could see . He never opened the hood but it said 511 cid on the side of the scoop and there was twin carbs and you'd hear the Whine of a blower it sounded very stout ......about 3-4 years later I see that same car once again getting gas so I go over to him and tell him I seen the car years before , o told him I'm a blower fan and was digging his set up . Well I felt like a complete idiot because when him and I took the hood off the car and placed it on the roof I then seen it was a tunnel ram and the " blower whine "was his timing gears 😅😂😂😂😂 yup little Awkward 😂 so these day I just stick to blaming squirrels no matter what .

In the past you have demonstrated that you can make a good estimate of power gain based on how many atmospheres of boost you add to an engine, can you do the same thing to estimate how much power would be gained by increasing compression?

@@richardholdener1727 ok. I’m looking to build a similar platform with custom ground cam, 871 blower, tunnel ram manifold and mechanically fuel injected for my vdrive drag boat.

Does any of these require a 4-7 swap with tunnel ram

  • @olsketchmo

Howdy. May I ask, might the love of Tunnel Rams be extended to the CrossRam "Street Tunnel Ram" Intakes? From research, it appears the CrossRam Intake Manifolds were developed due to Racing Sanctioning Body Rules that dictated a stock all Metal Hood, thus the engineers "laid down" the Long Runners of a conventional Tunnel and created the CrossRam Intakes, other wise known as a "Street Tunnel Ram". Thus the Edelbrock Moniker "STR-10" for their Chevy Version & "STR-11" for their AMC Version, which actually Edelbrock 1st developed for the AMC Javelin Trans Am Cars by Ronnie Kaplan, before Edelbrock did their SBC version. Offenhauser also made thier version for the SBC that was the most faithful to the original official GM Design "Snowflake" Winters Foundry casting mark OEM CrossRam Intake manifold. And it just so happens that in late 1967 or very early 1968 the '2nd Design' Holley Carburetor that GM Engineer Mr. Bill Howell conceived, designed, financed, and issued for use with the Z28 302 CrossRam 'Induction Kit' GM # 3940077 was the Holley List 4295 ~585 CFM Double Pumper, which just so happens to be THE VERY FIRST EVER HOLLEY DOUBLE PUMPER !!!! All Holley Double Pumpers roots go back to that List 4295 created by GM Engineer the honorable Mr. Bill Howell, of the current company, Howell Fuel Injection. Thank You for all your hard work and infectious enthusiasm.

Richard, why do the torque curve and horsepower curve always cross at 5250 RPM's ?

Norm Hodgkinson : Hey there. I know you asked Richard, not me, Sorry to be the Non Richard "Butinski". Do see the two minutes and 36 second post. 5252 is the proper Imperial constant. 9554 is the Metric constant for Nm to kW were torque and power cross. But sometimes chassis dyno graphs dont cross at that point if the scales differ. James Watt worked it out drawing a 550 pound load a certain distance in a certain time...back in the mines at the dawn of the Industrial Revolution....and then defined that as horsepower first. Torque was derived from that. On engine dynos today, we calculate torque then horsepower. Please See ruclips.net/video/L-faWLthbMU/видео.html

I think you would also see the same gains, as a percent, on the flow bench with these three intake manifolds. I don't think that hi ram can flow 400cfm per runner. It out dates cnc heads.
