ThaShiznit I mean she will never be as big as MTV especially how it was back in the '80s with Michael Jackson and a lot of other artists. So, I don't blame her for throwing a little shade.

She was not one of the first females to break through either. Donna Summer, The Pointer Sisters, Tina Turner, Shelia E, were among the first and had multiple videos played, and in heavy rotation as well.

Whitney was extremely intelligent and well spoken, especially when she talks about music. Her best interviews were when people would ask her about music and the industry. She was a brilliant musician and one of the best to ever hit the stage
Besides her extraordinary talent , this interview reminds me of what a gorgeous woman she was . I enjoyed her honesty in this interview and hearing her views about music in general. She definitely knew music . I miss her ❤️
"We weren't going to accept fake singing." "It shouldn't take opening you legs and giving us tits and ass to be accepted".... Oh Whitney. IF ONLY that was still the case today!!! There aren't enough classy ladies like this in pop anymore. She is much missed.
Micheal broke the record. I hardly looked at MTV, until Micheal mastered it Then the Channel was all in your face. They played it, at all the major Shopping Stores
I wish she would've replaced all those Bobby Brown mentions to Janet Jackson. Control album was huge in 1986 and she was definitely one of the breakthrough black artists on MTV.
The break through artists are from 1983/84 until MTV changed to a top 40 format in November of 1984...not 1986. But Janet was definitely a prominent MTV artist like that of Madonna, Prince and her brother.
Actually, Control is more of an second generation of MTV (Along with George Michael, Bon Jovi, Paula Abdul, etc.). It would probably make more sense if she had mentioned Sade Adu or Cyndi Lauper.
Janet is my girl and Control is my fav, so I thought so too.. but then realised it was released in 1986. But the era being talked about is specifically 1983-1984: Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Donna Summer, Whitney Houston etc

No disrespect to Bobby's artistry, but I don't know if he should be mentioned in the same sentence as a Michael, Madonna or Whitney with regards to MTV's impact. This was pure evidence that Whitney was conscious of his insecurity, thus placing him in the same caliber as herself.
Bobby was a huge star in the late 80's, and that is the era she was talking about. I'm not a fan of Bobby's as a person, but his impact on R&B and Pop music was enormous during that time.

When the interviews would focus on music Whitney’s genius would come out. You could tell she really knew her stuff (both about music making and the business side of the industry). I think she would’ve been an excellent judge on American Idol or one of those shows
Thanks for posting this. Just to give you younger crowd a bit more of context, in 2001 MTV released a huge special for MTV's 21st anniversary where they went through the history of the channel, pop music and music videos up to that point. There were appearances by guest stars like Mariah and Whitney, and this whole interview is where MTV got all the Whitney appearances from. I wish I could watch Mariah's interview.
It's mindblowing to think that she was that stunning and beautiful despite all the cigarettes and drugs that she did in her life. One might assume that with the type of toxic lifestyle that she had, the damage would be quite noticeable but she was truly a beautiful woman up until her last years. Gorgeous woman!
The damage caught up to her later in her career...she is a human after all. Even in this interview, everyone is praising her, which is justified, but nevertheless, she is high as a kyte in this interview...
That’s my heart!! I just love everything about her. Whitney had the class, the sass, the latent, and the beauty. I love shady Whitney lol, she would read you and you probably not even know it
Ever song is like a great painting. It has to tell a story. It is composed of light and dark colors. Mrs Houston was the amazing voice if the 1900s no one could touch her. She reached down inside the heart and moved all your emotions. I can't command the English language well enough to express her greatness with singing. She will always be my favorite. Sure do mess hearing her on the radio. I'm sure she was burnt out by forty five years old. The whole world will suffer from her absence.

She hated during interviews lol. She always kept it so real. It sucks that bc don’t really know that’s she’s normally jittery, and outspoken, an they mistake her for being high
You can look at her early interviews and see that. She didn't do her interviews high. Not even in the interview where she cussed Wendy Williams out or when she did the Diane Sawyer interview even though people think they know what goes on in someone's life because of gossip.
I love me some Whitney! Elegance, beauty, class, talent and down to earth on a real tip wrapped into one. 💞 this interview rocks! She let them have it 😊
So effortlessly ! This is why she is the greatest singer to ever exist . Even any singer will tell you that . No one can compare to nippy . NOBODY ! this right here (Which was a rehearsal) To hear that voice live on stage in all its wonder was truly something to witness. Actually, she sounded better live than she did on recordings, if you can imagine that. Live, she had more freedom to express her feelings, and she was able to improvise much more. And the power that came from her voice was amazing; in my opinion, the physical effort that she put into every performance was unequaled. It was said that on stage she never once complained that the drums were too loud or the band was too loud. And if it was, she would just sing over the band, or sing around the band. She had that kind of power and presence.🙌🏻🙌🏻 . Whitney Houston had it all: Stage presence, vocal octave range ,insane phonetic power and control at mid to high chest vocalization, emotion-full diction and a physical beauty that was immensely complemented by her splendid resonance and timbre; all around she became what many people perceived as perfection. Sure, we had amazing singers at the time such as Mariah Carey but somehow all of these women, to a certain extent, lacked the emotion, the vehemence, and the powerful sheer that Whitney's voice was able to convey. Whitney Houston will be remembered as an anointed gift from nature to all humanity, one that we won't be able to experience anytime soon Whitney is a singer beyond compare. She is incomparable, her unique voice and style of singing is so far different from any other and the best VOICE of our time ...RIP #Queen 1963-2012 Whitney Houston

Whitney was extremely intelligent and well spoken, especially when she talks about music. Her best interviews were when people would ask her about music and the industry. She was a brilliant musician and one of the best to ever hit the stage
Whitney Houston The QUEEN of all artist.❤💕
She was anointed and still is.
Besides her extraordinary talent , this interview reminds me of what a gorgeous woman she was . I enjoyed her honesty in this interview and hearing her views about music in general. She definitely knew music . I miss her ❤️
There will never be another you...Great Interview. ..Loved the part where she says :They had to put her on MTV.....👏👏👏👏
YOU'RE RIGHT IT WONT EVER BE ANOTHER WHITNEY HOUSTON NOT IN THIS LIFETIME
"We weren't going to accept fake singing." "It shouldn't take opening you legs and giving us tits and ass to be accepted".... Oh Whitney. IF ONLY that was still the case today!!!
There aren't enough classy ladies like this in pop anymore. She is much missed.
!!!!!
“What are your earliest memories of MTV?”
“I remember I couldn’t get on. *smiles and laughs*”
OOF! 🤣🤣🤣🤣. She was not playing! Lmao! I miss her.
Micheal broke the record. I hardly looked at MTV, until Micheal mastered it
Then the Channel was all in your face. They played it, at all the major Shopping Stores
Rip to the legend 💯💯💯🙏🙏🏿🙏
Thanks Whitney for all your music
@@CelineOracle yeah, I’m aware. I was not talking about color really, I was focusing on the generations
She was being a loving and supportive wife
Not only talented. But very insightful. Makes you wonder how it all unfolded.
She was so real. I miss Whitney Houston 💕
She was so intelligent and knew so much about the industry unlike many other artists. May her soul continue to rest❤️
Hard to believe that this interview is in the same year as the Michael Jackson 30th Anniversary concert....She looks stunning here.
She looked so thin at the that concert.
@Tracy Lands how did you notice that she's high?? What is she doing that makes you think that she was high here?
@@Thegazelle1000 She's jittery, for one. Whitney appears to be under the influence here, but still speaks coherently and eloquently.
@@pensiveczar2239 how do you know that she’s under the influence here?
@@Thegazelle1000 Well, again, she's jittery. She's acting like she's had about a dozen soda's. That's usually a sign of someone being under the influence.
Whitney is always and will be to this day the greatest singer of all time , the best female to ever do it and also my leo the lioness queen she was born on August 9th I was born on the 20th of August that makes us LEOS.♌️🦁 R.I.P. Whitney Houston.🙏🏽😘
I really love ...her voice, diction, pronunciation are great....very intelligent
Same here!! Definitely ain’t no Cardi B 🙄
Genius. That’s why she got high. To escape the genius.
How can you not love her ❤️
No disrespect to Bobby's artistry, but I don't know if he should be mentioned in the same sentence as a Michael, Madonna or Whitney with regards to MTV's impact.
Play a Bobby song and tell me u don’t like it?
J Crash You just get sadder and sadder. This is almost too weak to reply to. You're not TMZ with a smoking gun, you clown. You say you have evidence that I was born in the 80's, yet you also say I wasn't alive in the 80's. Which is it?? Do you not see how crazy you sound? If I was born in the 80's, then obviously I was alive when Bobby Brown was at his peak. Do kids not listen to music? And yes, the fact that you stalk and troll my comments proves you're either insane or a kid posing as an adult. No reasonable adult has time to go around memorizing the birth-dates of people commenting on RUclips. Seek help, or go make some friends your own age.
J Crash Of course you read it. You just had nothing valid to say in response because you know you sounded like an idiot. You'll learn better when you grow up, kiddo.
J Crash If I was born in 1980, I was born in the 80's. If I was 9 in 1989, how was I not alive? Don't Be Cruel was #1 in March 1989, remember? Oh, that's right. You're a poser. Please stop embarrassing yourself and get off the internet, young man.
She was so beautiful and energetic in this video. its too bad, she couldn't defeat her demons. Miss u Whitney.
I loved the kindness with which she spoke about King George Michael, Martha Wash, and Michael Jackson. Whitney knew she had God-given talent, just like Mariah and that's why all those artist appreciated each other and their music. Whitney will always be missed. Gorgeous and super mega talented.
Mariah Carey had god given talent?
@@Jcrash71 Nope
Mariah does have God given talent
@@fashionbeast7089?
@@carlaconnor8347 Mariah is a tramp, who slept with any and everybody who she thought could be a benefit to her career. Love watching her old interviews.♥️ We still have pieces of her with us forever 😍
I'm so glad she had this interview, it is great to hear artist to comment on the 80's take for them at that time..she is phenomenal vocally, socially, great actress, and personable. Thank you Whitney still miss you and listening always your music...forever!!
She had it all, voice, beauty, elegance, articulate, wits, smarts, humor! I can’t see anyone who will ever top this statue nor would I want to take in. I was 19 when I first saw her 1987 tour in Miami. I couldn’t put in words what I witnessed.we will ALWAYS LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU DEARLY….🤗🌹♥️🙏
Nippy gave the best interviews and knew a lot about making great music. 💜🙏🏽
Yes she did ..Whitney knew music and the music industry.
Yes she did give the best interviews (Wendy Williams) 😂 Whitney didn't play. I bet the interviewers would be scared and on egg shells when she walked in. 😂
When the interviews would focus on music Whitney’s genius would come out. You could tell she really knew her stuff (both about music making and the business side of the industry). I think she would’ve been an excellent judge on American Idol or one of those shows
I love this interview! Displays the things I love about WH: sass, grace, intelligence and wit. But her throat really sounds sore here...
G G if you've been singing for over ten years I guess your voice is affected.
Cigarettes
Dried up from all the crack
Fascinating interview. Love to hear the professional talking.
She's so real and honest, may it be painful or hurtful, she speaks what's on her mind. 💪💪💪💪💟💞💝
she throws shade then smiles after, i want to appear that way in every family gatherings.
Hahhaa...... did it work?
I honestly believe that Whitney Houston was the most beautiful woman in the world then now and forever.
I just love her speaking voice. Just love to hear her talk lol
.....and they got busted!!!!! Love it!!!!! We need her today she WAS the standard! There will never be another Whitney!!!!!
PERIOD. 💯
True
Million Dollar Smile 😀
She just had to include Bobby Brown 🙄
Tone Mcneely u already know
Lol you had to see it coming! Every interview! Bobby! Bobby! Bobby! Sickening
Whitney Fan47 I really don't know why she felt she needed to do that 😕 I can only assume he was really insecure because of it.
G G Bobby most likely was jealous of her success and she tried to make him feel important.
Whitney Fan47 such a damn shame! Then he left her for another woman...typical.
She's so real and very blunt Whitney Houston gave no fucks she says whatever with no Filter
G.ddamn she was gorgeous...
Wonderful interview. Thank you for paving the way and breaking down doors! We miss you!
GOD, I love this woman's intelligence! So, SO smart! I'll always love you Whitney!
Donna Summer was the first black female with “She works hard for the money “ to be in heavy rotation back in 83/84
August 1983
No way that was more productive than Whitney’s songs
@@naynayMia305 Donna’s impact and significance is criminally underrated, as is her vocal ability.
She didn't mention her
@@SMD-lf2wn 💯 She wrote her own songs and brought SO much to music, she was way more than only disco
@@sofialyonsI noticed that too. She can’t sit still….
Whitney’s gift is the biggest compare to all music industry. Her voice and Gods given talent is universal!
I have no CHOICE but to LOVE Whitney Elizabeth Houston 💜💜💜💜
Love Whitney ....... she is such an AWESOME person. Thanks for your music, we love you.
That’s my heart!! I just love everything about her. Whitney had the class, the sass, the latent, and the beauty. I love shady Whitney lol, she would read you and you probably not even know it
Whitney was speaking all truths! She almost looked like she was over these questions 😂
This interview is epic, lol. Whitney was throwin MTV mad shade 😂😂😂 and just some of her other comments too, whew, she truly is missed. There will never be another Whitney Houston!!!
"Let's face it, George Michael was the group..."😂😂😂😂
I learnt more from this video then all the years in highschool combined. Kept watching this every year, yet this is gold.
She seams extremely irritated. I don’t blame her.... She is one of my all time favorites! R.I.P.
I love me some Whitney! Elegance, beauty, class, talent and down to earth on a real tip wrapped into one. 💞 this interview rocks! She let them have it 😊
Whitney was greatest of all time really
I love her piece on Bobbi Kristina ( RIP ) finding her own sexiness naturally. That’s a good parenting lesson.
This is literally everything! 🔥🖤
All her points FLY with us in 2021 yes queen!!!!
A peculiar being with a unique speaking and singing voice beyond compare. The greatest vocalist past, present, and future.
She had that kind of power and presence.🙌🏻🙌🏻
. Whitney Houston will be remembered as an anointed gift from nature to all humanity, one that we won't be able to experience anytime soon
Whitney is a singer beyond compare. She is incomparable, her unique voice and style of singing is so far different from any other and the best VOICE of our time ...RIP #Queen 1963-2012 Whitney Houston

She looks and sounds great in this interview
I can tell she smells really good!!
Such an elegant Queen , we miss you Whitney!!
The shade she threw at MTV baby I miss houston gave me life honey
I love her smile
I love this, and how blunt she is over B.S. that went on that shouldn't have.
8:55 she talked about I Will Always Love You being played on funerals. :(
Whitney is beautiful, articulate and just handled the interview so well!!!!
I miss her 😭
She looked great in the How Will I Know Video...in.my opinion!
David Bowie is credited as being one of the first (if not the first) white artists to pressure MTV to showcase black artists on MTV. There were no color lines for David Bowie. I applaud him for this.
Very true story. He was willing to pull his work if they did not start playing the BIGGEST artists of that time
@@ImStep-by-Step this statement makes no sense, michael was not the biggest artist when the refused to play him, he gained exposure from them (and vice versa) and THEN became the biggest ever
@@amiramir-qg7xv LMAO - you’re severely miseducated! SEVERELY!! You don’t need to respond.
1:25 I said the same thing, what about Jimi? Whitney Elizabeth Houston was one of the only people in the music industry that could come back with quick rebuttals. Rock N Roll started with Little Richard and Chuck Berry, BLACK artists. The interviewer tried to down play it by saying MTV was solely for Rock N Roll as if that's synonymous with white musicians further proving the racism MTV AND Vh1 bestowed against Black artists.
Madonna , Prince , Michael Jackson yes then she says Bobby Brown ! Really !
J Crash Wrong I was around in the 70s onwards ! Yes Bobby was popular but not in the same way as the other 3, so it depends what country you are from KID !
Bobby was a big star, but let's be real, he was never in the league of MJ, Prince, Madonna etc and before you start, I am a huge BB fan and have all his music.
She married a very insecure fuckboy and was a loyal wife. It's sad. Bobby was nowhere the caliber of Whitney and the aforementioned others. Was he big at one point? Absolutely. But that was only for a year.
She loved her man. 😂😂
Whitney don’t play. The way she tells it like it is with a smile. Skills 👍
