Nice work with this CZ. Well presented; to the point and without the usual background distractions found so commonly in a lot of Pro Tools instruction vids. I "subscribed" because I want to see what else you're working on. Nice job.
Cato, This is the first of your videos that I have seen. Really well done. Quick, clear, to the point and easy to understand. And it helps that you are a schooled musician which makes it easier for me to relate to the material. Subscribed to your channel as I saw you have several videos. Will be checking them out as well. Keep on going. Thanks!!
I tried your process and nothing changed (the keys of the different sections of the song are still in their original keys). I want to be able to splice in, or add a LOOP(s) into my song(s) and have the LOOP(s) match the major body, and key of the song. I found a great loop in F# minor but the core of my song is in C minor. It would be nice to change the F# minor loop into a C minor loop, if that can be done. I suppose I can just keep the two loops apart and modulate from one to the other, but if I want to add the F# Minor onto, or along with, or on top of, the C minor part, of course that won't work without changing everything either into F# Minor or C minor. So I set my session to absolute Grid mode, and then I set markers, to the start of the song, and to end of the song, and then I clicked onto C minor in the Protools "KEY CHANGE" window. And when I played the song there was still no Key change for the F# minor loop. (I was hoping the F# minor loop would become a C minor loop to match the body of my song). The C minor is of course still C minor but the F# minor is still F# Minor. Bummer. My Protools Edit window shows that between my markers, "C Minor". I must be doing something wrong.
Great vid but I’m wondering when I change the key in my song nothing happens. I’m in grid mode, select all and change the key and again nothing happens.

@@kernjames I'm with you on that brother. I been looking or something to match tempo and key instantly with my songs. The closest thing I found was in "Splice" where they have something called bridge and I was so excited it. The tempo matched but I don't remember if it matched the key too, I feel like it did that too.The reason why I don't have that anymore is because I did an upgrade on something and it caused "Bridge" not to work anymore in my DAW. Def looking into Bridge from "Splice". Once I get a new computer Bridge should work for me again. You know as well as I do that if you have a loop set up on you keyboard and have is spread out on different keys it slows it down or speeds it up so it's useless to do that. I'm going see about "Output/Arcade" I think I saw that they have a plug-in that can match tempo and key of a loop to your song.
@@melodyman9162 thanks for the info. I have heard of Splice and I also understand how a person can lose Plugins, or just about anything that they once had on a computer, when upgrading or making changes on a computers. Been there, done that.
You know, I'm not sure. Maybe someone here that knows more about Pro Tools First could answer? When you look at the head of the key ruler, do you have the little triangle to the left of it? And do you see a little + icon to the right of it?
What Protools allows you to do is change the meter /create the meter. In changing the meter, you "delete" the previous meter, but as far as what I'm understanding there is no actual "delete meter" function per se.

Thanks for the tutorial. Does the chord & key changes apply to audio loops also or only for midi loops?
Thank you!

Sure thing! I hope it helped!

What are you hoping will happen? (Just to make sure we are communicating properly here)

can you change key in pro tools first. my ruler doesnt have a key change indicator

I don’t care. Prove it.
How do you determine what key your song is in?

In the SOFTWARE, ya douchbag!
And, no - I'm not interested in learning it.
Thank you!
