Thank you so much for all the hard work to create such a great series!
Why decide to focus more on spiritual horror than physical body horror this time around as opposed to the first game?
Thank you for answering questions!
How yummy are the chompettes?
Thank you for your amazing games!!! What was your biggest inspiration for this one or cooking companions? Favorite animal?

It’s insane how the pov of the mass murdering witch who sees talking food is more comprehensive than the main characters pov
So about the mushroom, the main thing is that they're ALL poisonous.
Amanita phalloides - otherwise known as a death cap mushroom.
Cortinarius orellanus - otherwise known as fool's webcap
Clitocybe phyllophila - otherwise known as frosty funnel
Yesss thank you, the only one I knew right away was the death cap, I forgot what the others were
Also knew the Death Cap right away. Which means the poor bastard who could live forever had to suffer months of acute liver failure every time he was forced to eat the stew.
Why was Manly so sure that the perspective was the Witch's? It was pretty obvious it was Kurt...
@@Transformers2Fan1 likely because it was facing Kurt's POV.

It's great, isn't it?
at least the first game can be explained away with “your insane and have been insane for decades” but literally what the hell is happening in this game. You get picked up after taking a fall and now suddenly your on an island that you can’t leave and your being accosted by talking animals and people who spontaneously get in bed with you or die
Especially on Kurt in that bed scene, i know im a guy but tbh, lets just say It made me feel... things...
@@ricekrispies4994 No, I'm pretty sure the witches and ghosts are real. So far (from this episode at least) the plot is that Kurt found a way to be immortal by mimicking the undying witches. He then fled to an island because the witches want to kill him for it and the animals/chompettes are spirits of the people the witches kill. I guess Kurt counts as a witch now so his "test subjects" became animals.
You're also constantly switching perspectives from the memories you're getting from Kurt (since he made you eat his hair and now you're linked to him), the baba yaga (I think the same protagonist from last time, but maybe not since the red haired lady killed them last time I think), and our cop MC who got dragged to the island and made immortal to keep the baga yaga from going on another rampage (they regenerate making them an infinite food source)
And I think the bed scenes just double as both fanservice and probably a jumpscare.
@@josephjoestar953the ghosts real, Renata said that she only appears to warn mc, I guess seeing her as "vengeful spirit" is some kind of perception thing.
Lingering spirits-->cute kawai food/animals
"Vengeful spirits"--> try to warn you

This game reminds me of a tv show from the 70s where a woman wanted to lose weight. She bought and wore glasses that made food talk to her. They would scream and cry if she ever took even one bite of food. She began to see them as friends and starved to death. It’s not the same thing since the food in this game ARE actually people but still it’s what comes to mind.

About that horse comment Kurt made…
One of the most famous tales featuring the Baba Yaga is called “The Death of Koschei the Deathless,” where Prince Ivan (the same guy Baba Yaga mentions) goes on an epic quest to defeat the evil wizard Koschei who kidnapped Ivan’s wife, Marya. In order to reach the wizard, he needs a magical horse owned by Baba Yaga herself. However, in the story, Ivan doesn’t steal the horse as Kurt says, but earns it by passing the Baba Yaga’s trails
I think I heard of that story. Was the kidnapping was a classic case of "no dating 'til you're 30?"
@@sxatcychan1988lmao, no nothing like that; Marya and Ivan have been married for years by the time the Koschei kidnaps her. It’s more akin to a “Bluebeard” scenario
Marya is actually a badass warrior Princess who defeated Koschei long before she met Ivan. But since Koschei revives every time he dies, hence the “deathless” title, she imprisons him in the dungeon below her castle to keep him from doing harm. One day, Marya has to go to war and will be away from the castle for a while. She gives Ivan a key and explicitly tells him NOT to open the door the key belongs to but does not tell him why. Naturally, the first thing Ivan does after she leaves is unlocks his door and finds Koschei, accidentally freeing him. Koschei flies off and kidnaps Marya, intent on revenge
@@moondew6256 Oh, okay! I must've mixed this story up with "The Frog Tsarevna," where the female lead actually was Koschei's daughter. 😅

Baba Yaga vs Koschei the Magician? I am here for it!
Also lovedlovedloved how the riddle in one of the OG tales was incorporated. Koschei’s life is “in an egg, in a duck, in a hare, that nests in a hollow log, that floats in a pond, found in a forest on the island of Bouyan,” but the way it was used symbolically as well as literally in this game was so well done! ❤❤❤
Is this a variation of Koschei's myth that I didn't hear yet? Because IIRC his death wasn't in a log in the pond, it was under the oak within the chest
And in the game Yaga dug up the chest from under a tree, it seems
@@Sarydormi Perhaps! It’s a common theme that Koschei’s life is hidden in nesting objects within a bunch of stuff like a Matryoshka doll anyway, but the exact quote I used came from the tale of “Tsarevitch Petr and the Wizard.”
@@alexandragabitto2573 hm, I didn't yet research that one, but it seems like an adaptation. We usually have Ivan The Fool or Ivan Tsarevich (the Prince I guess?) as the protagonist of such stories, and while yes, it is matryoshka kind of thing, there weren't any ponds. Btw the more common version of myth can explain name dropping of Ivan closer to the end, can't remember Pyotrs being mentioned
@@Sarydormi I’m pretty sure it’s just a deviation from what one could consider your “typical” Koschei story although the quote I used could be considered more of a riddle of sorts when you consider the context in which it’s used!

will be interested to see if Kurt turns out to be Koschei the deathless - lots of things add up, like the frustratingly hidden box that the witch is seeking that is probably where she found the egg - and crushing it kills him? considering how much inspiration cooking companions took from Russian folk tales, it would certainly fit
Wasn't cooking companions based of Slavic and Ukrainian history?
@@hutao3324 baba yaga is a russian folk lore, in which баба is short for бабушка which is grandma/old woman
@@merle3184 Baba Yaga is a popular folk story in Poland too. A lot of Slavic people groups pretty much share an entire mythology with very little variation between current national borders. Which is interesting since most people groups have really fragmented mythologies when they basically all live right next to each other. For example Chinese and Japanese mythology, while sharing some broad and basic stories, have very different characters, gods, deities, spirits and monsters. Sadly due to the history of the Slavs, and the centuries of occupation from various empires, not much of the pantheon exists anymore; most of it was lost to the sands of time. As an example, Chernobog might be a relatively well known Slavic god today, but there are actually not many sources that reference him. Some scholars call his entire authenticity into question, making pretty credible claims that he might not have existed at all and was constructed by foreign people to make the Slavs look barbaric and worthy of subjugation.
Spoiler alert: the egg got crushed and Kurt dies, horrificly.
Also the duck and rabbit thing, koschei the deathless has a needle hidden in an egg hidden in a rabbit hidden in a duck!!

Baba Yaga is actually pretty complex as a character in the Slavic mythology. Sometimes she's old and scary and sometimes she's young and beautiful. Sometimes she traps her victim in the forest, purposely twisting the roots and trees to keep the person perpetually walking in circles. Sometimes she will help someone find their way out of her woods. Sometimes she's kind until someone crosses her at which point she'll become viscously malevolent. Sometimes she's wicked until shown kindness at which point she'll let the target leave. Sometimes she eats children who wander into the woods alone, sometimes she protects them until their parents find them. You kinda never know which version of Baba Yaga you'll meet in any one story.
16:40 The answer is only two if you follow the operations sequentially which makes sense in a conversation. But if you follow PEMDAS instead the answer is 6 and 2/3 or approximately 6.66
6.67
You don't get to just casually round down just because it's thematic, especially not after specifying you're following mathematical principles.
Edit: I hadn't paid attention to the original problem, but the person below me is correct, too.
Close, but it's actually 4 and 2/3 or approximately 4.67
The equation is 10-6+2/3 and 10-6 is 4 then add the 2/3 for 4.67
@@khallidaymuhammad914 No.
Addition and subtraction are literally the same operation in math (ex. 1-1 = 1 + -1), which is why they're _together_ in PEMDAS, just as multiplication and division are together.
P first, then E, then M _and_ D, then A _and_ S.
10-6 + 2/3
= 10-6 + 0.66
= 10 - 6.66
= 4.66
(Rounded) 4.67
At the end of the day, we can all agree that she's wrong.
@@kylerivera3470 Oof. I did the math in my head and double dipped on the 2. 10 - 6 + 2; and 2/3. I saw the 6.67 and didn't double check because 'surely that was intentional!' Nope, I'm just bad (good?) at quick math.

Just a FYI. He was a Lich. Meaning he could not be killed unless his phylactery was destroyed. Depending on the version you go by.. It basically can be any object the being that became a Lich used to basically turn themselves into a Lich. It basically binds their soul to the object. You can not kill them unless you destroy their phylactery. They will just keep coming back. ( Depending on the version of this, it depends on how its done. ) In this that stone "egg" as you put it, was his phylactery. Why he did not have it that well guarded basically begs the question.. "Did he really want to keep going?"
It's actually based on the folklore character of koschei (which is the male counterpart to baba yaga)
he's immortal and some of the characters and objects are a reference to the story. His life force is "inside a duck inside a hare inside a box inside an egg inside a needle."

It's implied that Anatoly has a crush on Mariah, though. He took her death the hardest, and Karin remarked that back at home he would always swim out with her to make sure she doesn't drown.

@@bananaallergyeja Meh~! I know that, but my whole point is that the ships in the series are not exclusively queer / LGBT / whatever's the term these days.
I am on opposite side, I am not against variety but going full 180 and only doing non-hetero relationships to me is very exasperating. Like "we gotta make everything gay cause that's what people crave and we need to shove it as much as possible to compensate their lack in the previous century, regardless if it's done well or fits." (And overall the need to include any kinds of relationships and shipping everywhere, despite them being the most overdone and stale things ever) Thankfully, here it is not focus, and more done in hints and nods so it's not interrupting the important plot and development of it.

Typical manly behavior, he skipped the whole game using the ghost skips, it would make more sense if he hadnt just looked for the ghosts to attack him
Man, I forgot how much I loved this series. The setting is so fascinating, and everything new about it I learn intrigues me more. I'm honestly pretty glad we got to see Baba Yaga's face for once, and interact with her as a brand new person. It puts so much from the first game into a new and interesting perspective. I also quite like that this is starting to turn into Baba Yaga's bloody saga, like we're going down a "monster of the week" path with that ending you got. It turns her from being this frightening fucked up monster into kind of an antihero who just like... takes down lich cults and whatnot. I honestly can't wait for more, I'm absolutely hooked.
In regards to the time period (and this might be SPOILERS for the first game, for those who haven't seen it yet), I'm pretty sure this is happening in the latter half of the 20th century. In the previous game, there was some pretty heavy implications that the story took place during the Holodomor (the four survivors being Ukrainian refugees fleeing a famine), and then in this game they mentioned that several decades have passed since then. Then, with the mention of civil rights movements and some of the political things happening in Poland, I feel like it's pretty likely this is happening during the Cold War, when Poland was under Communist rule.
i just finished rewatching this series from two years ago today… Manly are you watching me…?

Cool game but keeping up with this story is a challenge. The line about a stolen horse connects back to Baga Yaga nicely. But it makes me wonder which horse exactly was stole because depending on the story the horses are how they day passes or literally the world's fastest horses. Also....THE EGG!!!!!! I can't believe they included HIM. That is so awesome and clever. I should have expected him at some point but it still surprised me.
Hey, Manly! Got some info for you that you may find interesting:
The "First Lich" the game talks about is Koshey the Undying, a very prominent figure in slavic folklore, a lich who put his soul into a golden needle, hid the needle in an egg, hid this egg inside a duck, hid the duck inside a hare, hid the hare inside a stone box and hanged the box on an oak tree guarded by three-headed serpent. It's a common plot of slavic fairy tales for a hero to befriend a bear, a wolf and a hawk on their way to Koshey so that animals can help retrieve the egg (the bear will shake the stone box off the oak, the wolf will chase down the hare, and the hawk would pick the duck from the sky). Ivan that they talk about in the end is either tsarevich Ivan or Ivan the Fool both are in essence the same kind of chivalrous hero and often used interchangeably, with tsarevich Ivan being more serious type while Ivan the Fool more of a comedic relief type.
If you would like to see one of such tales of tsarevich Ivan vs Koshey the Undying (with some help from the Baba Yaga on the side too) in motion, here's an old cartoon telling the tale of Princess-Frog (no, not THAT one - believe it or not, it was slavic fairy tale first):
ruclips.net/video/leS1K4P_h_s/видео.htmlsi=SUGV9EpbjWGGDQfm
It's russian, sorry for that, but basic premise is that Koshey likes gold so much he goes around turning things into golden statues, he thies to impress Vasilisa the Beautiful with this trick, but she likes living things more, she rejects him and turns into a frog to hide from him. Years later she's found by tsarevich Ivan and goes to marry him, revealing that she can shed her frog skin and turn human at will, but Ivan burns her shed skin, thinking that without the frog skin she will remain human forever, only to find out that nope, now Vasilisa is exposed and gets instantly kidnapped by Koshey and taken to his castle. Ivan goes to resque her, getting advised by Baba Yaga on how to actually defeat Koshey and recruiting his animal helpers on the way to the castle.

only learned this game came out yesterday when i went to check up on it the other day and had no idea it even had a release date! was so excited to see you play it so quickly
THANK YOU MANLY!!! I HAVE BEEN ON THE EDGE OF INSANITY WAITING FOR THIS!!!!!!!!!!
Ive been so excited to see you play this game!! cannot wait for part 2!!
wait... is kurt, Koschei the deathless?
egg, duck, hare, chest, buried, ivan, stolen horse
all check out
The most important point is missing: Koshchei's death is at the end of the needle, which is in the egg. It's not enough to simply crush the egg: the needle must be removed separately and broken.
YES ! After so long, we finally get the adventures of potato, babaprotag, Buff velma and the gang. These games are surprisingly good and entertaining for VNs, i love them
I have been waiting for this! I love Cooking Companions
I've been waiting for this series to return, definitely a Manly Classic ❤️
