This 1948 Plymouth P15 C Special Deluxe had been long forgotten in a private garage for the last 40 years. It was found when the property that contained it was sold and the new owner put it up for sale. Although I picked it up outside Trenton NJ, it came from a property located LITERALLY 6 blocks from where I live near Landsdown PA.
I traded my old 1998 Chevy C1500 Silverado pickup truck in a no-cash trade this old girl. I plan on getting this running and enjoying it as a rat rod grocery getter. Thanks for watching and look for more videos soon!
Nice my father gave me a 1940 Plymouth 4 door sedan when I was 16 in 2002, I restored it myself and I still have it today. I was the only kid in south Philly driving a 1940 Plymouth awesome car to drive.
Just like the previous guy said, this old girl deserves some respect. When my sister lived in South Philly, back in the 80's, I remember seeing cars like this just sitting on the side streets, and in garages. Go Man, Go!! She's a beast!! Scott and the boys, over at the Cold War Motors channel, would truly appreciate this project.
I like that you never seem intimidated, Dave. It's inspiring to only see that you are so excited by a project like this. Looking forward to the progress!
I definitely feel intimidated, but it’s projects that scare you that make you grow the most!
Awesome, looking forward to seeing it come back to life! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Awesome ride keep finding hidden treasures and filming it along the way great videos
Yes sir!
You should subscribe to Coldwarmotors he does some beautiful repair work on old Chrysler products up in Canada.
Oooh gonna happen, thanks for the tip
She is a beauty. I think it's some kind of tar paint, they used? Just as well you have helpers, I ever seen a clean car! Showroom standard.
Good luck & it will be amazing project to finish by xmas
Love from Scotland 5* :D
your children are beautiful boys, happy family
Yes sir, thank you!
Glad your kids are involved . My 2 grown Sons still enjoy the old cars.
I’d love to have it as a daily driver. Those flathead six motors were good motors.
Queria um carro desse e se tivesse um desse ia restaurar ele todinho
Amazing is the car of my grandfather
As a kid in the 1950s, in Los Angeles, my grandparents had a '47 Plymouth Special Deluxe 4-door just like this in a dove gray. I remember the car, fondly, especially the rear suicide doors. They would later trade it for a later model '50 Ford, then in '64, a brand-new '64 base-model Chev Biscayne wagon. Good times. Best of luck to you on your restoration. You've got your work cut out for you with those severely rotted floors.
Paul probably got a butt whooping for losing his report card while dad was sitting on top of it all those years.
Haha!! 💯, that’s funny!
Glad i found this video, im looking at getting one of these, it was an ex fort myers police car. hope this one gets restored to her former glory
Can I contact you , I have an identical Car, in Germantown section of Phila,Pa
Sure I’m rustytooldude@gmail.com
Happy boys, happy father and a new toy.
watch out for asbestos lol
Glad to see inside the bio of the project you mentioned it was a 1948. I sold mine years ago, when I had a couple of toddlers, and an antique didn't make sense to store and own. I went from a tan to maroon, loved that color. Still have the Special Deluxe chrome and an extra tail and stop light lens. Drove that car three times from Boston area to Colorado, ended up keeping it here on the East Coast in 1980 when we got married. For a honeymoon, the wife and I drove the car around New England and did a tour of old Inns.
Best of luck on your Plymouth; looks like a real nice car.
Great ride! The dump truck in that drawling sure looked like a power wagon! I believe the screwdriver looking thing is your hubcap removal tool. Cant wait for the progress!
I’ll be back on it eventually! That kid sure could draw
@@partsandresto find person who drew it *
Best wishes I am sure she will be on the road again soon.
first shake down run sitting on a bucket coming end of the week
Been redoing a 47 business coupe the past couple weeks. Just finished the floor which was nearly as bad as yours. If you got any questions shoot me a message!
Dog gone voice text I tried to say I'm curious about the rifle it looked like it was in pretty decent shape
Fake, it’s my 1853 enfield
@@partsandresto okay thank you thought it looks like it was in really nice shape to have been back there very long
What a beautiful car. I love suicide doors. That is a straight up old gangster car. Already watched the engine videos. Can't wait to see more done. I hope your boys love it. Get them addicted to cars early.
Love that old car! so much room in the back seat, you could have fun in there back in the day!
Hail yeah! Sexy time
Don't rat rod that car!!
It's so complete and has survived that way.
It deserves to be restored to it's original shape as it rolled off the assembly line.
very nice cars.
Like the video I'm curious about the life when you found it looked like it was in really good shape
Goin to museum
Great find the body on that Plymouth is very very solid unbelievable very very solid there's cars on the road today that's got more rust then that car good find 👍🏼
That coating on the floor is a rubberized undercoating, intended to prevent cars from rusting. They used it on most cars, in the late 40s forward You can still buy it, in spray, cans at most Auto Parts Stores.
My Plymouth is 4 years newer (52) and it's a station wagon. Same engine is also now seized. One day (if I live long enough) I'll rebuild it. Good luck
Came across one of your videos last week and have been hooked since. I can’t wait to see you drive it because you have earned it, putting in all of the work.
Juds come across your Channel and watched you rebuild the engine and I'm on the 3rd video and sure I'll be binge watching. I've been laughing so hard because I'm Pushing 60 years old and my 39 year old wife is like that's ugly and I'm telling her I'm selling her mustang convertible and buying her a real car like you have well she is not laughing like me but she still loves me lol. Can't wait to see you drive it, I have many photos of the old cars all oringal From when I was a Young Lad.Great Video. Respect From Niagara Falls Ontario Canada.
Thanks Kelvin!
Hahaha I pushed my Power Wagon into the garage with my truck just like that. By far my favorite scratches I have on my F150. Look forward to doing it again :)
Haha, big ole dent in my bumper but I’m proud of it too!! Ha
Rubberized undercoating , still available in spray cans. Definitely do not throw those seats away even if you do not use them someone will buy them from you for sure. Good luck you will have lots of fun with that car. Pull the cylinder head buy a new gasket,
Soak the sticky valves.
bet you’re able to turn the motor free after a piece.

- "That's like bubble wrap levels of satisfaction." HAHAHA! I get it!
My very 1st car, exactly. It was in much better shape, but that was57 years ago, too. Cost me 85 dollars.
Did you do another video following this one? I’m interesting to know how you repaired the engine. Let me know, I have that same classic but it’s not running.
Really looking forward to this one. Had to sub. I've aquired a 1948 Chrysler sedan. Almost a twin of your Plymouth. I havent decided if I dig it enough to restore it, or if I'm gonna sell. Maybe you'll inspire me. Question, does your have the Fluid Drive transmission?
No sir, no fluid drive. What a cool feature to have though
The coating on the floor appears to be undercoating.
Paint suppliers use to sell it and the spayer also.
I'm surprised you didn't find any silver dimes and quarters. Or mabey old wheat back pennys
If you don’t want to share what you picked this one up for what would be fair value for one in this condition?
Stuff on floor in back looks like simple undercoating to me.... Can buy it in cans these days...
hi good progect if you or anybody can help me whit my litle problem i have 1948 plymouth especial deluxe i changed all fuel lines new fuelgas pump rebuil carburator new filters wash the tank new gasoline but the pump after 3 minest or so it stops sending the gas up to the clear filter next to the carb but there is gas on the glass cup in the fuel pump it looks like it loses pressure and from the pump to the carb doesnt go up this is the secon gas pump that i buy and is the same result please a man in stress situation
I have a old red rider BB gun, I was wandering if you could fix it up for me
Email me at rustytooldude@gmail.com
my Dad had one just like it. Look forward to seeing it come back to life.
There is a possibility that the coating on the floor may contain asbestos. Just take precautions if you opt to remove it. On my 48', I covered the old floor with new sheet metal, and in the trunk, I just removed any loose coating material, and painted over the rest. Good luck with your project!!
Thanks Wayne!
Its not a gangster car it was a family car, and is basically a grocery getter that will hardly keep up with modern traffic
I had a 47 Dodge 4dr sedan- virtual clone of this jewel- and I sold it to a friend for $75 (1968). Something I should never have done! Good luck!
Bummer Michael, They're out there for reasonable prices if your trying to get her back!
That is gonna be a fun restoration
Yeah, it’s making great progress. Probably gonna drive it around town on a bucket for a bit but I’m knocking it out. New video shortly
Good choice good looking ride. I think the fun size cleaning crew should done the engine space also they could have got in it. I loved you let them in on doing stuff to it no matter what it was they can say they helped. Please keep them doing stuff to help I've lost to many kids in my life to drugs. Sorry don't mean to be a downer people just need to know and think. Can you think about one of your kids taking a date to the prom in it wow that would be something thanks.
That would be amazing to take that to prom one day. Sorry for your losses. Take care and thanks for watching!
Brush on rubberized undercoating.....
Cool project car. Rusty... but seems to be all there. That's most important. Best advice I can give you is to put this to the side and finish the power wagon first. Family life + work + two project cars = a bit much.
thanks partner.
Are you in Pa ? I saw the license plate was from Pa. Nice video.
Yep, that’s my high school ride! It was a 47 but no real changes 46-48. I had it mid ‘70’s, I think I got rid of it around 76. Often wonder what happened to it. Not sure I would want to tackle a rust bucket like this though. Yes, the engine I pulled out of it is still in mom’s basement 🙄
красавец Брат, приятно смотреть за твоей работой. Привет из России.
1949 all original, original owner included in the trunk.
Paul had some artistic talent. I wonder when he gave it up for a job in management??
He was really good!
My earliest memories of cars were of cars like this. My dad had a Special along with a Dodge Coronet from this vintage. I was 6 or 7 when crawling around under them, doing an in-frame overhaul. There was a long hill near our house with a highway over it. He used it for a poor man’s dyno. He’d start at the bottom at 60, floor it under the bridge, and see how much he’d lost by the top. It’s quite likely that my, life long, fondness for inline 6 cylinders, stems from riding along next to him, on these runs.
That’s a great story Phil. Thanks for sharing it with me. 🥺🥺🥺
@@partsandresto I think the Plymouth was a ‘48 and the Dodge was a 49. It would have been the very early 1960s. We overhauled the Dodge motor in the driveway. I remember listening to every detail of the sound it made on the uphill. I might have been younger, it’s some of the earliest stuff I can remember.
Este Chevrolet 1949 esse aqui é o carro não essas lata velha que existe hoje
Subscribed...just found your videos. Hilarious that you conned aaa into doing this and filmed it. They dont bring projects you just bought, home. They are wise to yhat plan. Driver must have been a car guy. Lol
“I can’t get it to start, need to get it home, send help” hahahahaha
Also welcome aboard George
35 year ago I have but now only in my dream to get it mean to expensive 😰
You should restore the interior, or at least reupholster it to look period correct, so that way you have a mint interior but all of that nice patina on the outside. Clear coat it too so it doesn’t eat through your fenders.
Now that’s a plan.
Dude just came across your channel after seeing the flathead 6 rebuilds. Love those engines! I can't believe I haven't seen your channel! Love the "snail" body style cars of the 40s! Not a lot of tubers take them on. This gives me inspiration to work on my 57!
rubberized stuff is called undercoating
Gorgeous car!!! I've got a '58 which was in a similar shape, after 6 years of work it is nearly looking like it did back in the day in the showroom. Quite a challenge anyway in Europe having to import all the parts from the states. Would love to own one like yours, flathead 6 manual transmision... Once fixed it can last forever and be reliable as hell with very few manteinance!!
They are super cool! I’m really excited to get this girl going
"Similar shape"? If you have a '58, that's a whole different animal with swept-back fins. Perhaps you meant a '48.
@@carlv8168 It is a '58, by "shape" I meant condition.
A 1947 Plymouth was my high school ride! 😃
Awesome!
Those are nice cars my buddy had a business coupe all the moldings are stainless and shine up nice!
Right on
Wow! Does this bring back memories! My dad had a black ‘47 4 dr. Plymouth Special Deluxe and my step mom had an identical one only a ‘48 model. New cars, shortly after the war, cars were sometimes hard to come by, but my dad “knew a guy” at the local dealership so that’s how he got his. Traded it for a used green ‘50 Plymouth 4 door Special Deluxe around ‘53. This one, I rolled when I was in high school. All great cars; wish that I had any of the three back. Best wishes for your restoration.
My Dad had the same exact car back around 1953/54. I spent much seat time in the back seat fighting with my sister. There was a distinct smell to the interior, espe ially if the driver smoked. The engine, and transmission had a distinct sound, and feel.If I remember correctly, the trans wasnt syncronized, and you couldn't hear the grind between1st& 2nd if you didnt double clutch. between shifts.
Looking forward to more videos! You can get that engine running. They are simple to repair and as reliable as a 15 year old dog.
My father and I repaired a lady's '49 Special Deluxe sedan in the 1980s when I was in high school. She called it 'Betsy' and had it since new.
We charged her $25 for a new clutch. We went to pick it up, and you could release the clutch slowly in reverse and the car never moved! Made sure it was in tip-top condition before giving it back. We loved her and the car.
Nice car! Nothing that can't be fixed.
Now that’s one way to get it into the garage. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Done and done!!
Its so cool to see kids excited with pappy's car. I remember my dad bought home a Black Diplomat once, nothing special or as historical as this Plymouth, but the feeling of pappy's new car is awesome as a little boy. We've got pictures of me and my pap working on the engine and good memories in it. Cherish these times, take real photographs, on film. Those are always super special later in life. As far as that rubber coating, I'll go out on a limb and say it's pure rubber lol. I have the same stuff on my 1987 Plymouth Gran Fury, which is also black like yours, with silver trim. Though not as historically valuable, its still a Plymouth. The black rubber shit on mine is still there and there isn't any rust or any living thing around that rubber stuff lol so you know it's good. Some dawn and a scrubby will bring it back, hydrate the rubber and leave it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
This was posted on my birthday :p
Sure looks like a 1948 to me!
It's not a 1949. Google 1949 Plymouth and you'll see a different body style. The car in question here is 1946, -47, or -48.
Ugh. Its a p15 made in 49. I’m right you’re wrong, that’s all.
@@partsandresto Well, Chrysler may have made some of the older body style in 1949 as well as the later model. We had a '49 when I was a kid which was the later model. I don't want to argue, but looked up some info to try to educate myself: this is from a moderator of a MoPar chat site: "P15 is the series number for 46 to 48 Plymouths. It jumped to P17 for Deluxe and P18 for Special Deluxe in 1949. For 1950 it was P19 for Deluxe and P 20 for Special Deluxe. I don't think P16 was ever used. DeSotos were S11 in the 46-48 time period while Dodges were D24."
that gun ? do tell... it pay for new car or paint job '
Just making fun of guys who do click-bate videos like “you’ll never believe what i found in a forgotten car”
👍👍👍👍fun!
It's not called rough around the edges. It's called Patina. Love it. I hope you don't butcher it up. It looks awesome.
What kind of rifle was it?
Price determined by weight
Nice project, but I see a lot of work ahead.
Yeah tons!
This 1949 Lyme Pizza cars the Presley's came to Memphis in
AWESOME!!!!!!!!
This is not a 49! she is a 46, 47 or a 1948. 1949 was a new style.
wrong. 49 was a transition year. first quarter of 1949 they were still finishing the 46-48 models. This was one of the last p15s to roll off the line
Just out of curiosity, how much did this car cost?
Free trade. Traded it for a 1998 Chevy truck that was worth about 900 bucks
Your kids will be teenagers by the time you get that done.
Brakes are done, fuel system is replaced, and the engine has been completely rebuilt. Soooooo
Last time I check this man is a time traveler.... Actually went back in time beat the original owner to the sale at the dealership and drove it home!!!!
mass, I also like to fix old things, rarity
Yes, it’s a real joy to fix things
Keep the videos coming I love old car restorations
You got it Bob
Sure leans to the side when you are in it. #bodypositive
Bwahahaha
Nice unmolested car, perfect project.
Yes sir, it’ll clean up
Not a 1949. Maybe 46, 47, 48. 1949 had unique bumpers.
First series '49, the ones you're thinking about were called the second series.
finally someobody who knows....
@@rogercamp6071 I guess bumpers, tail lights, parking lights, radio panel, etc are all "First series 49". Never saw one, but if you insist......
@@colettewelch9523 first series '49 is same as '46,'47,48 second series has the ribbed bumpers you mentioned.

What an awesome find a diamond in the ruff.
Classic design of 40's.
Just found your channel can't wait to see what you have in store for this old girl , I have acquired a 48 Plymouth club coupe that someone started as a hot rod project so I can relate to the having to look for certain parts the previous owner or owners took off .
