We can't deny that the flaming arrow is the most iconic of olympics ever! 2:43:49
I remember also this and was asking myself how could they risk it.
Tonight I found that he failed, check out in very slow motion 2:43:54
The arrow falls behind the torch. Probably it was a fake lightning!
Camera also zooms very much to hide as posible the fall of the arrow and the position of the camera is also in such a place that on the fall it would be also hidden by the column of the torch. But there is a small gap between the column and the "plate" of the torch where you can see the flaming arrow falling outside!

@@ndeligiannis People usually think that the idea was to shoot the arrow inside the cauldron, but you simply could not shoot and leave it burning there, apart from the obvious virtual impossibility of any archer ever being able to achieve that: the idea is to shoot it so as to pass over and close enough to the gas emission from the cauldron.
It would have been a huge fail when the arrow had been seen shot too far to the side or above the cauldron, but it is true that the image that is seen there (I think the NBC broadcast got a different viewpoint) was chosen to give that impression to the people who assumed the arrow had to fall in to light the flame.
The Catalan TV channel showed images, obviously taken from outside the stadium, of the lighting rehearsal a few days before the ceremony. Then, there are also the images recorded by people who could not get in that day.
@@ndeligiannis The Olympic cauldron was ignited using a flaming arrow, lit from the flame of the Olympic torch. It was shot by Paralympic archer Antonio Rebollo, who aimed the arrow over the top of the cauldron to ignite the gas emanating from it. The arrow landed outside the stadium. This unusual method for lighting the cauldron had been carefully designed to avoid any chance of the arrow landing in the stadium if Rebollo missed his target

I was in the audience. It was a real surprise. Best ever I agree.
The planners did have a backup method if he did miss.
@@ndeligiannis that was planned. if the arrow had hit the cauldron, it would have rebounded, STILL LIT back into the crowd. The plan was for it to fly over the cauldron to an area that had been cleared of people.

It seens like yesterday, but exactly, tofau, July 25th 2022, we are celebrating 30 years the Opening Ceremony of the Games of the XXVth Olympiad in Barcelona, and we are still being gifted with this unforgetable song performed by Fred Mercury and Monserat Cabalet. Amazing opening ceremony . Like the way they lightened the cauldron. One of the best in history.

I knew Freddie wrote and sang “Barcelona”.....it is so sad he passed away in Nov. 1991 before he could attend and sing in person with Montserrat Caballe at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Spain! They were terrific singing together in Barcelona on stage in 1989, watch it on uTube....he did such a wonderful thing! And what an honor for him to be asked to write the music for “Barcelona” for the Olympics!!

Para mi gusto, nadie ha podido superar en originalidad en el encendido del pebetero a Barcelona ‘92, Beijing 2008 se acercó un poco, los Españoles abrieron la puerta a la creatividad del encendido, ojalá los juegos regresen a España pronto, saludos desde México, Amigos para siempre!

En el encendido, sí: este es el mejor. Pero el mejor pebetero fue el de Río de Janeiro.
Encendido si; pero nunca la clase, arte, belleza y sofisticación de Atenas 2004.
Ciudad de México 1968, fue icono en su momento ya que por primera vez una mujer enciende el pebetero olímpico, me refiero a Enriqueta Basilio...
@@gustavoanhm Mis saludos, no solo eso, sino que también fue una olimpiada Cultural, entre lo que queda son los monumentos que se hicieron al Olimpismo, de los cuales pocos sobreviven, lamentablemente Enrique Basilio Falleció el año pasado y si es cierto que se cambio ya que siempre los hombres encendían en Pebetero, siendo la primera mujer en encender, sin embargo el traje que tenia no le dio el Comite Organizador, sino ella mismo tuvo que diseñarse su traje y hacérselo confeccionar.
Han pasado 31 años, y todavía hoy me emociona ver lo bien que, entre todos, supimos hacer bien las cosas. Recuerdos imborrables y muy gratos, de veras.
Hoy ví la ceremonia inaugural de los JJ.OO de Tokio 2020 ,y lo primero que suena en mi cabeza cada vez que empieza los juegos olímpicos cada 4 años es ésta canción, la de Freddie Mercury y Montserrat caballé 🎶🎶🎶 , Barcelona 92, los mejores JJ.OO de la historia,sin dudas 🤩🤩

When you understand the significance of these games: first games with a United Germany, first games with independent nations of the former USSR, apartide was still an issue in South Africa as you can tell with the flag they walked in under.
afghanistan, bosnia, rep. of congo, libya, mauritania, myanmar, rwanda, seychelles still compete with the old flag. HongKong still under british. fidel castro and nelson mandela attending the event.

Opening Ceremony was announced in four languages instead of the usual three: Catalan, Spanish, French, and English.

I was there a couple of days ago. It's one of my favourite places. So quiet and you can just sit around and read a book. There's a cafe in the stadium and you can have a coffee and just sit there in peace. Love it!

What makes you say it's the best? I'm not necessarily disagreeing, I'm just curious what you see/hear in these opening ceremonies that make them supercede all others in your mind.
@@traviss6564 The epic scale of Beijing; the high art of Athens, and the storytelling of London all rolled into one. Plus of course, that lighting of the flame!

Yo… estuve en la inauguración de BCN y pensé que la de Tokyo podría igualarla pero ni de coña.
30 años después, es la mejor inauguración de Juegos Olímpicos de la historia.
Homenaje a todos los que lucharon por ello, encabezados por J A Samaranch.
Fué la mas inventiva juntamente con Rio,Atenas,Sydney,Beijing y Londres.

It's been a bit of a throwback to the Olympics dating back to the 1992 Summer Olympics. I imagined that Starmaker Entertainment and R&G Video will released it on VHS, while HGV Video Productions distributed it on VHS for the Canadian copies.
That and Moscow in particular was boycotted by the vast majority of the National Olympic Committees.
The most impressive Olympic Games Opening to me
No the most impressive opening ceremony was for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. It was simply magnificent and incredibly satisfying.

Qué inauguración tan épica. Era casi un niño cuando la vi en el '92 y me emociona mucho que esté completa aquí en RUclips. Lo del encendido vía la flecha es inigualable. Incluso de una cancion que hicieron para las Olimpiadas, "amigos para siempre", consiguieron hacer una cancion clasica, como si fuera un himno a la belleza y lealtad de la amistad. Que ha sido cantada y tocada, por Los mejores artistas, las mejores orquestas, y en todos los idiomas..
Los Manolos también cantaron "All my loving" una versión de The Beatles 👏🕺

Looking back at those 90's Opening ceremonies I can't but think that sometimes less is more. Some parts of this opening ceremony like the one starting at the 32nd minute ("Olympic sea") is so breathtaking, that it beats any technological "wows" displayed in Beijing for example.

Every Olympic opening ceremonies have their own memorable moments. Barcelona was great at displaying athletic skills in opening ceremony and Beijing had done an amazing job displaying technology. There isn’t a need to compare one to another because every ceremonies were unique in its own way.
For me one of the best opening ceremonies, and so far the best cauldron lighting ever

Increible como el tiempo vuela! Ya van casi 30 años de Barcelona 1992 🥲 Yo apenas tenia 4 años, y lamentablemente, para ese tiempo no veia deportes, ni nada. Las primeras Olimpiadas que vi, fueron las de Sydney Australia en el 2000. Desde los finales de los 1990s es que yo me volvi un amante a los deportes y eventos internacionales. Tambien me perdi las de Atlanda 1996, ya que tenia 8 añitos.
Ahora estoy ansioso por Paris 2024 y Los Angeles 2028!
Me pregunto cuando sera el dia que las Olimpiadas volveran a España? Estaremos vivos para verlo?

Lo recuerdo como si fuera ayer, me emocionó muchísimo!! El abanderado de España fue el Rey Felipe VI, jovencísimo y guapísimo entonces Principe de Asturias. Vivo en Barcelona y no tiene nada que ver con aquella ciudad olímpica, llena de cultura, alegría, y entusiasmo, teníamos un alcalde que consiguió que Barcelona fuera una ciudad olímpica. Carlos, tú puedes mover todos los hilos que quieras, que si no organizas algo que se recuerde no sirve de nada. Barcelona consiguió salir ganando con estos Juegos económicamente, y después de ella ninguna ciudad ha conseguido eso, solo pelotazos urbanísticos. Además, después de 30 años son recordados como unos Juegos Olímpicos que cambiaron la forma de celebrarlos y organizarlos, y esa organización salió principalmente de la propia ciudad de Barcelona. Como decimos en Galicia, no seas “repunante”…

Artistically speaking, some parts are memorable because of the artistic quality: the opera singers, the theatrical part of the Conquest of Barcelona, the merge of catalonian and spanish culture. There was soooo much going on.

La mejor ceremonia, el épico e insuperable encendido del pebetero, los temas musicales de Mercury y Caballé, Los 3 tenores, Jose Carreras y Sarah Brightman, el dream team, hasta COBI la mascota de esos juegos tuvo su propia caricatura o serie animada, yo era adolescente y el 91 dejo muchos estragos tragicos en mi vida, cuando senti que ya me despedia de este mundo, toda esa magia de Barcelona '92 me dio impetu de vivir la vida nuevamente, también lo que le precedió, los Paraolímpicos, el escuchar sus testimonios y mensajes fuertes de vida, que la discapacidad No es obstaculo para ser triunfador, me hicieron valorarla y ver que yo estoy completo, sin discapacidades, y resurgí, no podia ir mas abajo a menos que llegase la muerte. Como ser humano, estas olimpiadas me marcaron para siempre
Nunca había visto la ceremonia de entrada de Barcelona 1992 ya que no tenía muchas expectativas, pero la verdad es que me he quedado sin palabras, ¡es absolutamente hermoso! Arte puro, no pudo haber mejor forma de representar la cultura española y catalana.
Es imposible poder comparar estas inauguracion con cualquier otra, el encendido del pebetero, las coreografías, Hercules y el mediterráneo, la calidad de directores musicales como Pons y Moraleda, la sinfonía de Riuyichi Sakamoto, los artistas de talla mundial como Caballe, Kraus, Carreras, Domingo y Berganza . el tino la integración de cultura, la magistral actuación de Cristina Hoyos y esas coreografías con colores vivos dignos de Miro y ese logro diseñado por Corberó, la canción de Mercury con Caballé, La belleza de ciudad que es Barcelona y el espectacular escenario que es Montjuic. SE PUEDE SER MAS EXQUISITO?

Sumale una gran generación de sopranos y tenores cantando juntos, una maravillosa interpretación de flamenco, el mejor himno de todas las ediciones de Juegos Olímpicos, Amigos Para Siempre (nunca igualado jamás superado), y el saludos más simple y hermoso del mundo un HOLA. Unos juegos olímpicos inolvidables. Por cierto que en México en el programa de Los Protagonistas de los Juegos Olímpicos en IMEVISIÖN hubo un grupo de reporteros que filmaron desde otro ángulo como la flecha ni toco el pebetero pasó por encima, y lo pasaron en cadena nacional y en todo México nos enteramos que la flecha no dio en el blanco, después comentó el director del programa José Ramón Fernández que las autoridades del COI fueron hablar con él y le pidieron que les entregara las grabaciones, y para evitarse problemas el se las dio, pero han subido videos en youtube que grabaron de ese programa donde se muestra el truco de la flecha que no encendió el pebetero.

La ceremonia inaugural de Barcelona 92' fue solemne. Y es que otras inauguraciones fueron espectaculares, con un despliegue de tecnología impresionante, pero ninguna con la solemnidad de Barcelona. Solo una nación con la riqueza cultural de España podía tocar el corazón del mundo entero.
A live orchestra, a full choir ensemble, tenors, sopranos and a flaming arrow, I think it's the classiest of all opening ceremonies.
Magnífica ceremonia. Para mi la más moderna , original y estética. También es increíble como han cambiado las cosas en España. Aplausos a los reyes, al himno, a la bandera. Parece que antes eramos un país unido. Ahora por desgracia hay mucho conflicto. Ojalá se acabe con todo lo que no nos une pronto.

Me emociono y siento nostalgia al recordar tambien a muchos que ya no estan físicamente con nosotros 😭😭😭. Y siento mucha tristeza a la vez; por todo lo que está pasando en el mundo con esta pandemia. I was blown away 30 years ago to see Montserrat Caballé up there representing the best of Spain and her city, Barcelona. I truly wish that she and Freddy Mercury had had many more years to work together. The love they had for each other is palpable in these amazing videos. Thanks to everyone who has made it possible for us to see and hear these two gifted artists together and to hear Montsy with Carreras, her protegé.
