I am a Vario fan and like this trinket. The price is fair, but far from "incredible" ZEOS was selling them for $529.00 on a bracelet with great lume. All the best to Ivan and Judy on this launch.
Yeah I have the zeros with the mosaic mop. That watch slaps. I like this but let’s stop pretending getting this complication under $1000 is an achievement anymore. Miyota is mass producing these movements and they’re all under $1000. It’s an astonishing movement for the money buttery smooth secondhand good power reserve. Above average accuracy. But like I said, it’s widely available.
It looks brilliant. And Vario is such a nice company. All the contact I’ve had with them has felt so personal and just nice. I am really really tempted by this one.
Thanks for this video, I haven’t seen any other channels review this watch yet. Vario has some really fun designs, sort of vintage but modern at the same time.
Nice to meet you in person and there wasn't a need for me to explain in person on the design decisions made. You instinctively knew what I am going after!
Ar deco sector dial meets GMT. The watch is beautiful, stylish, distinctive. Love it! 😍 I suppose the price will be higher than most of us will like. By the way I massively prefer the watch on a strap.
Really pleased to see this in more watches (Jack Mason and Boldr are a couple of others that spring to mind - but generally it feels like its been ignored compared to the NH34) and $700 for a 'true' gmt is nuts. Thanks for showing.
Dipped my toes in the GMT market for $150 about 15 years ago - Eco-Drive and it's still running. At that price only Mineral [now chipped] glass and 1 out of 10 lume but 100m water protection. I don't much like a second 24hr hand and would much prefer a second 12 hour hand that could be positioned with the main hour hand until wanting to track a second zone
A very nice offering and love that dial. But really puzzled (as you obviously were) about the lume. Seems to me, if the hands had lume (instead of being skeletonized), and the whole outer ring of the dial with the numerals was lumed, that would be pretty cool - and a fairly unique look. Otherwise get rid of the lume on the GMT hand. As it stands now, that GMT hand looks like a parts bin after-thought.
I have the "standard" version of this watch (the empire "winter") and it's such a great-looking piece. This seems like an awesome variation of it, but I'm always curious of a GMT without a date.
imagine reigniting the academic kick starter with less colour options but with this movement in. Sure it would be a little thicker, but I think you'd find your niche in the market
Beautiful watch and a great price for the specs. A bit outside my comfort zone for watches I purchase. Although I’m going to have to start saving up for some more expensive watches. Thanks for the great review.
I accidentally turned the crown the opposite way when setting the date on my Bulova Devil Diver with the Miyota 821d-21b movement and forced it thru two clicks, did I damage it at all?
I was annoyed that I missed the sector dial Empire a couple years back. This isn't quite as sharp looking (owing to the GMT chapter ring) but it's pretty close. It's juuuust slick enough to pass for a dress watch. I like the bracelet, too!
I like the idea of an affordable traveler GMT. But I don't understand a GMT without a date function. As for this watch, the dial design doesn't do much for me. Meh. Pass.
Getting up there with the price you can sometimes find a Seiko with the 28.8k 6r64 for. I’d much rather pay a little more for a Seiko with a warranty in the UK as well as true gmt and power reserve.
I absolutellu love the design and look of this watch, but... 5atm, no thanks. I´d expect 100m WR or more, and for me 39-40mm is better. Gorgeous watch!
I like seeing a GMT watch that doesn't just look like a re-purposed dive watch! Having said that....I'm not that huge a fan of art deco in general....so I still have to pass.
Great looking watch. I have a Jack Mason Strat-o-Timer with that movement and it’s incredibly accurate. This one is worth taking a look at as well. Thanks for the review.
Lovely watch but why did they even try to put Lume in there? That has to be the poorest attempt to lume a watch I ever seen. The watch looks way better on a leather strap.
I like that movement but man, I have no love for that watch. Ugly and dour and pricey. Perhaps it'll be a grower after 20 years or so, like 2000s BMWs, or perhaps not. Still, props to Vario for trying.
Any TRUE gmt below $1k is effing incredible. Looking forward to homages from other brands. No shade intended to Vario but their watches are kinda meh.
Brilliant!
@@ilikewatches Have you looked into the Traska GMT? Sub1000 and amazing Vickers hardness rating?
"....but their watches are kinda meh."
"It's a matter of taste" said the monkey, and ate the soap! 😜

The empire is the best looking retro dress watch available
Another thing I love about Citizen, is when they do GMT, they always do Travellers' ones, no matter it's quartz or auto

I have no need for a traveler's GMT because I hardly leave the house, but I would still consider this watch because it is so attractive.
It looks brilliant. And Vario is such a nice company. All the contact I’ve had with them has felt so personal and just nice.
I am really really tempted by this one.
Beautiful watch, they have been very clever avoiding a date window, a cleaner look and the lack of quickset is a pain if this isn't an only watch.

Hey Ivan, had a great afternoon!

Come for the Mondaine Clock on the wall, and I stay for the amazing content! Keep it up!
Lol, thanks
Not a fan of such watches but thanks for introducing me to the brand, i really like the trench series
Really pleased to see this in more watches (Jack Mason and Boldr are a couple of others that spring to mind - but generally it feels like its been ignored compared to the NH34) and $700 for a 'true' gmt is nuts. Thanks for showing.
the Vaer 39mm GMT also uses this movement. Great watch

Thanks for the review mate. Vario is expanding their line with this, good to see that. Good bracelet combo too.
Great looking watch from one of my favourite brands. And Ivan is such a great guy!!
That is one amazing looking watch. It will be interesting to see how it sells. Sadly I think it needs a date window. Very good looking though....

A useful function for travelling but it really needs a date for the same reasons
great looking watch, the Miyota movement is a good choice, and pairing it with that blue strap is incredibly refined
it has strong vacheron fifty six vibes. I like it a lot!
imagine reigniting the academic kick starter with less colour options but with this movement in. Sure it would be a little thicker, but I think you'd find your niche in the market
Vario have got some great watches. Top Tier Ticker got me looking their way before. This one is a banger. I love the font choice.
Beautiful watch and a great price for the specs. A bit outside my comfort zone for watches I purchase. Although I’m going to have to start saving up for some more expensive watches. Thanks for the great review.
9015, 9019, 9039 whats the thinnest model? all three same accuracy and power reserve?
San Martin should use this movement for its GMTs
I accidentally turned the crown the opposite way when setting the date on my Bulova Devil Diver with the Miyota 821d-21b movement and forced it thru two clicks, did I damage it at all?
I highly doubt it

I agree that the last non GMT versions were sharp looking.
nice art deco styling 👌
For true gmt movements like this, is adjusting the minute hand the only way to move the gmt hand?
Yes
I would like to see different colorways of this design.
Like ti a lot! Looks better on strap imo. Hopefully this means more "true" GMTs coming soon (in this price range)
nice thumbnail, well done :D
Did you regulate the movement yourself to -1SPD? That’s quite impressive.
No, that’s how it arrived
Jumping hour has a different meaning: a complication that jumps exactly from one hour to the next when the time advances from 59:59 to 00:00.
Nice proportions, cracking dial! But overall very odd opting for lumed GMT hand, no date window and only 50m WR... Especially for a traveller's watch!
I like the idea of an affordable traveler GMT. But I don't understand a GMT without a date function. As for this watch, the dial design doesn't do much for me. Meh. Pass.
I thought this as well. Plus it's cool to watch the date go back and forth when you twiddle the hands around midnight 😊
Kevin O Gary with the red strap
Getting up there with the price you can sometimes find a Seiko with the 28.8k 6r64 for. I’d much rather pay a little more for a Seiko with a warranty in the UK as well as true gmt and power reserve.
Those Seikos are twice the price at around 1400. It's in the next price tier IMO. Even at a watch broker it's a bit over $1k.
That’s a beautiful looking watch 👌🏻
I absolutellu love the design and look of this watch, but... 5atm, no thanks. I´d expect 100m WR or more, and for me 39-40mm is better. Gorgeous watch!

I think you have crashed their website as I can't sign up for the newsletter, very nice watch though
Lol
Well you could take the name off the dial and you would still know it was a Vario, talk about brand
Language ❤
Very true!
Does it come with keys ?
Great looking watch. I have a Jack Mason Strat-o-Timer with that movement and it’s incredibly accurate. This one is worth taking a look at as well. Thanks for the review.
Did you choose the most boring colour yourself, or did they send it?
Its the new black😂
That lume .... Nooo ... What do you do Vario?
Is it just me or does the hour hand jump 2 hours not 1
Needs a date
Lovely watch but why did they even try to put Lume in there? That has to be the poorest attempt to lume a watch I ever seen. The watch looks way better on a leather strap.
Looks too Art Deco for me
38mm 😢 way too small
I like that movement but man, I have no love for that watch. Ugly and dour and pricey. Perhaps it'll be a grower after 20 years or so, like 2000s BMWs, or perhaps not. Still, props to Vario for trying.
😂
