When I was a kid, I thought Sinatra was old fogy stuff. But one night, driving to work and feeling really stressed, Sinatra came on the radio and then I understood how great he was.

I grew up hearing him on the radio singing some boring stuff in the 60s and thought he was an old foggie too. Then my wife and I watched a biopic shot him on TV in the early 90s that features his early jazz songs and it inspired up to buy a couple of collections, particularly, The Columbia Years. Man, totally different singer than the one i thought I knew.

Indeed. I'm a huge Dylan fan and I read an interview with Bob when he was releasing his first album of Sinatra covers. He talked about how daunting it was to try to follow in Frank's shoes and said that he basically had to go and spend several months sharpening up his vocals, just so he could capture some of the precise diction and phrasing that made Frank what he was. The result was some of Bob's best singing in decades.

The band is none other than the jazz legend Count Basie and his Orchestra. Music doesn't get any better than this. I don't know if "wholesome" is the word I'd use to describe Frank. I mean, he himself used to say he's nothing but a saloon singer. But there's no doubt about this: If there was a Mount Rushmore of male vocalists, his face would be the first one they'd chisel out of the granite. Probably the most significant pop singer of the 20th century.

Today's music relies too much on technology. Songs and music from older eras relied on pure talent. Their commitment to producing quality was focused on fans. Giving the audience a good show. Frank Sinatra and others prime peak years were before my time as well. But they still had careers going into my timeline. Some died too. After my mom passed I rediscovered their music. A new appreciation. Have you guys tried the Rat Pack days of Frankie? (Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin-singers, Joey Bishop -comic, Peter Lawford-actor). Do you know Frank did some comedy, as well as being a dramatic actor? Anyway keep up the good work. Thanks for bringing older singers, songs and music to younger audiences. Creating new fans. Maybe if there is enough demand for better music from the past. You might just change the music industry for better quality. Well made music become classics. Test everything, retain what is good.

He worked really hard at his craft but he never let it show. He learned how to sing while breathing in and out from Harry James.

Please listen to "It was a very good year," by Frank Sinatra...He and Sammy Davis Junior were very close friends... Also, my grandparents lived next door to Sinatra in the 1930s...It was a very good year ....
