I miss when GP’s had 50cc, 80cc, 125cc, 250cc and 500cc classes and championships! The racing was always so good to watch on the smaller bikes and so many different options for competitors, spectators and the bike builders. The 50’s were so trick....shit I’d love to race these 80’s today! Accessibility and participation was so much better....
Me too, plus the 350 and sidecars. It used to be a great day to go to the Motorbike Grand Prix in those old days. I think back in 79 at Silverstone there were coaches that took you around the circuit. I certainly remember my dear departed wife and myself getting took around the circuit at speed in a coach, tyres were screeching anyway. Jumped on at Copse and only had one lap but, it was a great time. Damn, why do they change these things and we get old...hahaha P.S. The coaches were free!
niiiice one!. i was on yamaha ysr 80cc marlboro/hydro-texaco team back in the 90s/00s so this brings back alot of fun memories for me. awesome to rewatch some of those races. hope too see some more clips
The sound of a two stroke at full chat, what a beautiful noise!!!! Reminds me of the old days of fun on a demented small bike flat out to the local motorcycle shop to buy the latest go fast tat for it!!!!
Some people have no idea how fast these little two strokes go. I had an 79 Rd 400 Daytona Special back in the day and I would constantly blow the doors off 750's in short runs. Once you opened up for a long straight the 750's would of course outrun you but if you were running short and tight....not chance in most cases.
It was a great size! We have lost so much in racing today by not having all of these support classes and championships...it was so much more accessible, with less risk and expense.... imagine having the option to go club racing on 50’s or 80’s? And the skill development potential.... racing has become more and more exclusive. Racing of all kinds peaked in the early 1980’s...

@@fredtracy3931 Bernie Eccelstone :-)
@@tutankraider3502 I don't know what what he did to ruin Moto GP, but probably similar to how Gary Bettman ruined the NHL.

Cue callllaaa
Las motos ahora no son lo que eran .
En esa época eran mucho mejor
Hoeveel van die 80 cc racemotoren bestaan er nog
they seem to go very fast !!!
Higher corner speeds than the larger classes.
80cc seems like a good size for 2 stroke motorcycle racing (on tarmac) I bet they were capable of at least 100mph
Danny Murphy the 1986 Derbi clocked at 130mph in top speed!
Yeah more like 130mph... even the 50cc were clocked at somewhere around 110-120mph... unbelievable
