      Nothing wrong with Jodie Foster using wrong masculine/femine grammar when she speaks French. Most Americans don’t care about using proper grammar when they speak English and it is common for them to speak English with wrong grammar.
      It’s the British who care about using proper grammar when they speak English.

    "Foster was a gifted child who learned to read at the age of three. She attended a French-language prep school, the Lycée Français de Los Angeles. Her fluency in French has enabled her to act in French films, and she also dubs herself in French-language versions of most of her English-language films. I don't think it's bad that you find grammatical errors in these interviews. I personally really appreciate you pointing them out, because for those of use who want to learn French we may care a great deal of how to avoid mistakes as much as possible. It happens with every language too. For example, among native-born Americans grammatical errors persist (for instance saying "I'm going to lay down" is wrong when it should be "I'm going to lie down"). So don't be afraid to be picky Pearl :)

I’d never heard Jodie Foster speak French though, but I know exactly what you mean about her voice and her speech flow. You said it sounded like politician level and I get that because my first thought was, “wow, she’s speaking like a journalist” cuz that’s how professional her flow and sound seemed, even if I couldn’t understand. @@MyFrenchStory you’re English is also outstanding. I don’t know your back story, but your mastery of English in terms of colloquialisms and casual sentence structures and usages is amazing. English breaks so many of its own rules that it’s very easy to try and sound cool and on top of things - and then make very embarrassing mistakes, which is something I didn’t catch you doing at all. Wow! You skipped through lots of expressions with aplomb that would trip up most non-native speakers, leaving them sounding very FOREIGN. Someone once said that English is one of the easiest languages to learn to speak badly, but one of the most difficult to learn to speak well. That’s the danger.

    *the more you know:* she's her official french voice since mid 90's. it means that there's 95% of chances you hear her actual voice if you watch any of her movies in french. she's occasionnaly voiced by julie dumas but in most movies she dubs herself.
    even bradley cooper isn't fluent enough to do that. he was never asked to anyway.

And you know the saying: "Nobody is perfect!" En tout cas, mes félicitations pour tes vidéos que je viens juste de découvrir ! :-))

    Moi, étant un Américain de la California 🇺🇸 et ayant été élevé par une Grand-mere de la Normandie 🇫🇷 qui avait été élevé en Normandie pour une trentaine d’années avant qu’elle soit arrivée en Amérique, étant allé venu visité et demeuré plusieurs fois chez mes cousins Français,à Rouen et Caen ( docteurs de medicin; avocat éduqué à l Sorbonne en droit), je remarque, sans aucun doute, l’accent Americane de Jodie.. Ses paroles sont un cadeau de mort d'être américaine, c’est-à-dire, sa pensée est principalement en Anglais Californian, comme indiqué par ses modèles de discours, c’est-à-dire elle n’a pas passer du temps intime dans une famille Français comme la mienne, comme ma Marie-Claire, Ma Francoise ( ferme équestre qui date de 1650s, 300 hectares) ma Madeleine qui tous enseignent la propre pronunciation, car, c’est bien évidént que Jodie Foster ne pronounce pas du tout l’accent a la fin des bien des mots. ...tel que les accent Aiguës ( comme Le nom de mon père RenE ou mon uncle AndrE ,,, c’est pas Rene...ça, c’est trop doux....It faut le RRrenE, roule le R avec le gorge). En outre, ne parle-t-elle pas clairement le fin des mots tél qu distribution...car, c’est distributiON!!! et Révolution, c’est RRrevolutiON! Chaque mot qu’ elle dit est plutôt plat...sans force, ni conviction...et, elle ne pronounce les “R” d’une manière propre...il faut utiliser la gorge...( elle aurait difficulté en prononçant par example “ORlodge”) donc, j’acoute le marmonage américaine..pas fort soigné, diraient mes cousins Français bourgeois! Alors, pourqoui tourner autour du pot: c’est le signe principal de quelqu’un qui a été enseigné le Français dans une école privé américaine...peut-être par quelqu’un de Aix ou par une Américaine...quoiqu’il en soit, quand Jodie arrive à cracher un peu quand elle se fache tout en , même ansi, prononçant, correctement toutes les syllabes, alors, et seulement à ce point, parlera-t-elle comme une personne française native... I.e., quand grand-mere, les mains sur les hanches, pendant l’été, disait: Lève-toi kid ( gamin) et Fait ton lit!!! Ça, c’est le propre et le vrai accent...quand on se fâche....autrement dit, ( en cas de Jodie), c’est la quand Jodie se craquèrait...et bégayerait ...quand elle est dans une situation reale et pas contrôler à l’avance. ( pendant ces intervues, les actors Americans typiquement demand a l’avance les questions, et, dans le cas de Jodies, et toute probabilité, les Français ont donné les livres a Jodie à lire bien à l’avance de son entrevue au sujet des écrivains Français et , alors, en tout actualité ayant été fabriqué par Jodie lui-meme, début à la fin, Certes. Ne oubliiez pas que Jodie soit un producer et directrice ...elle a eu le contrôle sur memes les Français dans tous ses entrevues Français. Donc elle avait eu plusieurs semaines de se préparer...haussement contrôle par jodie and staged:/mis en scène..C’est pour le Marketing de ses films américaines auprès des Français...Pourtant, c’est bien différente que d’etre dans une vrai situation spontanée ...et une situation spontanée serait si si vous commenceriez à lui parler en français alors qu'elle est aux États-Unis, sans notification... dans la rue...néanmoins, il va sans dire... En plus, une heroine? Ce serait ma Grand-mere Française qui avait été infermiere, ayant guéri les blesse du combat, tels que Grand-pere ( se sont mariées à l’Eglise Saint Germain,,, Pont-Audemer...et hero? Grand-pere arriéré qui avait fait partie de la Résistance!!! )... pas les acteurs/actrice Americane... ugh...achete les produits Français, notamment les films...ils ont vraiment la culture ...🇫🇷👍..Great Britain 🇬🇧 👍. But/mais 🇺🇸👎 ... leçon aux américains: mieux de faire quelques erreurs grammaticales (comme moi) et bien pronouncer les mots , plutôt que de parler trop vite et finir par mal pronouncer les mots ou, pire, d’une manière trop plat comme bien des acteurs Américains ( trop me-vois-tu...too look-at-me... whereas the British speak French with the proper pace, raffiné, d’un air d’élégance, démontrant/ showing proper humility, and pronouncing their French much better than say a Jodie Foster... speaks like an American with too much spare change ( trop de pieces dans les poches) jingling in their pockets upon walking the streets of Paris...BCooper, though he struggles a bit grammatically, and badly pronounced many words at least speaks at a proper pace...showing humility of character...that’s probably why he sounds good to French people, it’s because he retains his American accent and makes erreurs...that’s attractive

    Tell me about it! Les Francophones sont si ‘picky’ apropos l’usage de la langue Française. It’s very intimidating. I don’t speak German as well as French, but Germans are just happy when you speak their language with them. ‘Oh you speak German so well!’ French speakers - not so much. When I lived in Brussels I remember paying money into my bank account and the teller correcting my sentence! ‘actually to say that you should have used the subjunctive’ 😐 Je m’excuse, I thought I was in a bank, not a French class!

    Are u saying French people don't make grammatical mistakes? I live in England and was under the impression that native English don't make grammatical mistakes. It's actually not true and the writing is atrocious. Is this not the case with the French?

    • @PoussinNoNeko
      @PoussinNoNeko 3 года назад +1

      French people's writing is getting worse and worse, and we do male grammatical and spelling mistakes, I often forget how to spell a word (is it one or two "n"?). But the one about feminine and masculine is mostly true for the majority of French vocabulary. In my opinion, it's actually pretty normal not to make mistakes on that because we have to agree adjectives, pronouns and determinants accordingly. If we heard those words in sentences hundreds, thousands of times, it's really difficult to make that kind of mistake.

    • @tally1604
      @tally1604 Год назад +1

      Not the grammatical gender mistakes. A native speaker will never misgender a noun. Other mistakes, sure - left and right. Just like native English speakers whom I delight in correcting for bad grammar. In French, I don't have an accent, but sometimes I use the wrong gender for a noun, and you should see the reaction from the French that gets, it's like their brain freezes and they malfunction 😂

    Jodie Foster speaks very good French indeed, and she has virtually no American accent ! That said, her french is not 100 % perfect; she makes minor grammatical mistakes a native speaker wouldn't make (gender confusion and agreement), maybe because she's a bit out of practice. At any rate she is pretty impressive and surely the foreign celebrity whose French is among the best I've heard so far! For the record, I would also mention Diane Kruger, Oliver Stone, Timothy Chalamet and Marisa Berenson, to name but a few.

      @@withastone exactly, I fully agree! There are some mistakes a native speaker, even if illiterate, would never make. I’m Italian and you can use a wrong verbal tense or adjective or even the verb itself but you would never mistake the gender (we have no neutral). The sun is masculine, the moon is feminine: only a non-native speaker could make a mistake on that. The same is for the article ‘the’: it’s impossible to hear a sentence like: Sky is blue (unless your mother tongue is Slavic). You simply know if it’s needed or not.
