My room was a disaster today so I paid them one skittle for every pencil or scrap of paper they picked up. Worked like a charm. That room was spotless in minutes.
Sherri Tucker they actually usually just do it when I ask but we were running late and it had to be done fast because it was time to leave. Just a little fun way to get it done quickly.
I say, “I spy a piece of Magic Trash.” They run around cleaning up the floor looking for the magic trash that will get them the reward. When it’s clean, I pick a kid who needs a boost, and they get a sticky finger or other inexpensive prize. Works like a charm!
I love watching your funny videos, but sometimes, as a fellow teacher, I need something positive to keep me going, and I’m not in the mood for a pessimist video about being a teacher. Thanks for this positive video!
My junior year AP English teacher used to buy plastic bouquets at the dollar store, separate the flowers, then duct tape them so the flowers noticeably dangled out noticeably. Nobody stole her pens!
My daughters class did a book the year before COVID and it was one of my most favorite things! I loved seeing what she and the other students came up with if they were an animal for a day :)
Like the Bogle Board! Already knew the copy paper trick. Glitter and PlayDoh both banned because a teacher got it blown in her face and a few specks in her eye resulted in a scratched cornea. Workman’s Comp. paid, but she has permanent “minor” visual distortion not correctable except maybe by very risky, experimental surgery,,,which our insurance doesn’t cover. PlayDoh has flour in it and we have several students and one teacher with life threatening gluten allergies. Also love the Sharpie trick!
Can you do a longer video about how you did the book and launch party? I know you used that service but like i'd like more info on how you approached the creation of and launch of the book logistically. I might like to do it.
one thing that always motivated my classmates to clean a classroom/area was our teacher telling us we could have a 2 minute early mark if we picked up 3 pieces of rubbish each - small prize, but ALWAYS worked like a charm - sometimes peer pressure works to a teacher's advantage lol
I hollowed out a junk book from the library (they were selling old books so I found a nice, thick one with a boring-sounding title) and we store cash on our home book shelf in that thing. But a candy safe! I love that!!!
I will pass on this idea to a former colleague, still in the rat race. Her candy is pilfered on a regular basis, by, she thinks, the children who use her room on Sundays for Sunday School. They aren’t well supervised.
I’ve used Student Treasures a few school years now…7? Anyway, we do a class book and my kiddos love it! They also love seeing the books from previous years. This is especially true when I have younger siblings of previous students.
I absolutely LOVE the idea of the book signing party. How fun is that?! I imagine that doesn't work outside of the US, though... In order to get the students to clean up all the scraps of paper that inevitably found their way to the floor throughout the day, my 5th grade teacher used to have us pick up 10 things off the floor (we had to show her), and as a reward, got to choose a jellybean. That doesn't sound like much now that I'm saying it, but as a then-5th grader, I used to spar with classmates just to grab those 10 things first. ;-)
@Studentreasures Publishing thanks! I ordered some. This will be amazing. We will be doing a very fun unit on Anatomy in 3rd quarter and the students will love this!
At the end of the day to get my students to clean up trash in my classroom I would look around the room; then say "I've found a mystery piece of trash!!" Then every student in the room would run around bringing me random pieces of trash on the floor asking me if, "Is this the mystery trash?" The person that found my mystery trash went to the TREASURE BOX :-) Worked every time
So I decided today was the day to try the paper team trick. Forgot to make sure it was copy paper. Teacher friend watched me whack myself in the leg with a 500 sheet ream of…cardstock. 🤣

I seem to remember teachers telling us to clean up the room and guess what? We did it. No one had to pay or bribe us. What is going on?

In elementary school people used to tear scraps of paper in half so if the teacher said to pick up 6 pieces they only had to pick up 3

My question is, is the book & publishing absolutely free? Or is there a hidden fee? I am intrigued. Also, has anyone used it for a Pre-K class?

Love the candy trick. I teach high school, so the other stuff is nah, but love you & your sense of humor!
So I remeber being in 1st and second grade and doing something very simillar to the book thing but we each got our own book

@Studentreasures Publishing I teach in an international school in Mexico City.
Can 9th grade biology teachers get a book maker thing too? It’s actually a cool idea for our cell analogy projects (among many I can think of!)

Student treasures ia the best thing ever

Go Sparta! Awesome - thanks!
Blessings to all!
Yes!! Glitter is the lice of the classroom.😳😁😆😆
Love it! I’m definitely Looking into the Secrete Treasures! 🥰
I have done the “mystery item” to get my high school students to pick up the trash on the floor. The prize is a small piece of candy. Works great!
Does anyone know if there is a U.K. equivalent of the book please

I love Ms. Smith videos😄
Nice hacks. Is there a version for grades 6-12?
Love
This is Sparta! 😂
How do you do the book signing when they all just have their own one book?
It's not like that - all the stories from all the students in the class get put together in the one book.
I have a student treasures book from 1st grade!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Make a video how a teachers day off is never a day off… it turns into responding to emails, updating grades, and lesson planning lol
