Do you have to know who the manufacturer of the window is or are the latches universal?

Not all windows have an opening on the end. You can’t just push the old latch out with a screwdriver and a hammer. The old latch has to come up out of the oval hole and the new latch has to go in from the top.

What are those latches called? My window has the latch that comes out of the hole but I don't know what the replacement latch would be called.

I was able to remove the window tilt latch by pulling it out with needle nose pliers.
