How many exceptionally good songs does this man have????? Every time I turn around I'm hearing something else that I haven't heard before...and I've been listening to him for 40 years...
He thought that his voice was meant for doing demos to sell the song, so he would make simple recordings, as song writers do. But, as we all know, he has an amazing voice. I still miss him.
Through my window I can see If the world is there for me Will my shadow on the floor let me be? And tomorrow calls my name But I don't want to go Through the burning flames of time C'est la vie C'est la vie With my friends I play the tune Warm and tired within my room And the crackle of the fire whispered low Now tomorrow takes my hand But I don't want to go Through the burning flames of time C'est la vie C'est la vie How can I sail my good times Over the waves of sorrow? Show me tomorrow Show me tomorrow So that I will know La la la la la la la La la la la la la la La la la la la la la La la la Now tomorrow takes my hand But I don't want to go Through the burning flames of time C'est la vie C'est la vie Through the burning flames of time C'est la vie C'est la vie
Bowie said he and a friend used to sneak into recording studios and make demos. This must be one of them. What a great song. Many artists would have pinned their entire careers on it. Thanks.
Not totally sad, but sweet and sour or bitter sweet, like life and all the Bowie's songs 're indeed. Bref, c'est la vie, comme on dit ici en France avec fatalisme 🤗
The more I see; the more I marvel. I always knew - from the first time I ever heard his work (it was, not surprisingly, "Space Oddity", as if it makes all that much difference *which* amazing piece it was) - that David Bowie (Jones, whatever: what's in a name?) possessed a genius of an order which we will not see again in our generation; perhaps which the world will never see again. And as I say: just when I thought there was nothing I could see or hear which could cause me to admire him more, well: now I find this. _"... and Tomorrow takes my hand/But I don't want to go/Through the burning flames of Time/C'est la vie..."._ He *KNEW* - so long ago, even so young as he was! - he knew, even then, that he would, indeed, have to pass through those flames; that he would have to write the "film" of which he sang, some few years later, in "Life on Mars"; that film which, when one can see, as he did, where it leads, and how it repeats, for it must, and it always will - that very film which, in all its absurdity, is Life itself; he could see, even in *THIS* early recording, how Life is (in mortal terms, of course), an infinitely "saddening bore"; and yet he knew, too, that - like it or not - the gift of his talent and his genius, both so glorious and yet so heavy a burden as they are, would indeed drive him - demand him - to write, in his endless attempts to share the truth with us, too, that same film, as he so well knew "ten times or more". And we can only *TRY* to understand, as best we can, that which he was trying, so hard, to tell us. But how I miss him; the mortal man. And yet how much I still rely, and always will, upon the inspiration of his works; his immortal and enduring and wonderful gift to Time; those works of genius which were, and always will be, part of my very soul. R.I.P. then, Starman; just as you knew, when you showed yourself to us in your final incarnation of *_Lazarus,_* who died and yet lived again, your spirit, your genius, and your eternal gifts to us can never die; for you, the flames are finally past, although your passage through them was a journey which few, indeed, have been strong enough to complete. You did it for us. Always for us, even at the end, even so ill, even dying as you were. Rest in peace, indeed; none could deserve it more richly than you do. Farewell.
Nell your words on this day are the nicest, sweetest most honest that I have read. Was a rock star so openly and widely and dare I say it joyfully mourned worldwide ever before?
Amazing to note the progression in songwriting skills and development here compared to the songs from his first deram album recorded a year earlier. Terrific song. sttgaegoaktd 😛😛😛😛😛😛😛
He would have been another Donavan or a generic folk musician if he hadn’t changed and changed and got a hit with Space Oddity. But the real fame came from the outfits and earrings and makeup. But that too would be a forgotten flash in the pan if not for his TALENT, TASTE, AND SKILL. He is one of a million and his face must have some kind of glow, if you know those lyrics from Station to Station.
funktofunky11 oh, sorry on that spelling. All I meant was with the sweet singing voice Bowie started with and his leaning toward the very popular folk music I am very glad he kept going into other genres. He is my favorite musician and has been since the early 1970’s. I’m extremely glad he branched out and we got to hear his low register on other songs that came later. He had a huge range vocally. Huge. I love him and have for so many years. It never occurred to me to look up the spelling on Donovan, sorry. Bowie had variety! Other bands of the time have albums that sound alike. Not Bowie. He has so much talent and great ideas. I love his vocal range, his stage presence, all of him. To me, The Byrd’s, Donovan, Peter, Paul & Mary, even The Beach Boys, stayed within the same sound. Do you like the album “Low” by Bowie? Or Diamond Dogs, or both? Do you have a favorite?
Thanks ! yes i love Low and i'm a fan since 1972 and my first album was Aladdin Sane i did buy in 1973 oohh Diamond Dogs is one of my fave albums ever...but i love almost everything but the 1980's was a lowpoint for me "Tonight" was his most bad record ever... but the 1990's did bring us Outside etc and i saw him i think 30 times live in all those years....
You saw him live a lot more than I did, only twice for me. The first time I was 3rd row and my palms of my hands were black and blue (bruises) from clapping so hard. I stood up on my chair too. Then Iggy Pop vomited right next to me after the concert and he spent the night with my friend. Deborah Harry from Blondie stood 2 feet away from me at the hotel they were staying at. I was trying to meet Bowie. I started listening to his records in about 1972 too. That first concert was about 1975 or 1976. Next time I saw him was in the early 2000’s around ‘04 I think. He was healthy, happy, wearing the younger blonde look with a simple short sleeve T-shirt. He entered my life during junior high school at about the age of 12. He was about 11-12 years older than me. I never realized he was a single father during all the Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane era. I LOVED Hunky Dory, Diamond Dogs, several others and then Low became my favorite. I liked the “Thin White Duke” years for some of the music and the clothes, even though most people don’t seem to like that part of his life. The song Heroes can make me cry and dance at the same time. I love how he morphed the lyrics to that over the years. The only song I don’t like is “Let’s Dance” and there’s a video going around with a black guy with dreads who tells us how he wrote that song with Bowie. He was sitting there when Bowie sang the lyrics to it in the same happy little ditty style like his early folk sound and the man whose name I can’t recall said basically, no, no, no, if we have a song about dancing we want everyone on the dance floor and he completely altered it. He also helped write “Little China Girl” he says anyway. You’ve probably seen these clips. I think China Girl really is referring to China White Heroin even though Bowie didn’t love that drug Iggy certainly did. I know the video doesn’t portray that message but I still think so. I’m liking the Cactus song right now and how hard he rocked the “I’m Afraid of Americans” when he did it live although at some of the shows the distortion is too amped up by the guitarist. He had so much style. Such great songs. Love Bowie and finding his fellow fans here on You Tube. Thanks.
Catherine Levison - Bowie wasn’t a single father until he divorced Angie in 1980 taking full custody, no visitation rights. She kept her end of the bargain by saying she’d never take their son from him, but he cut her off. Quite an acrimonious divorce & very sad when children get used as a weapon. You’re referring to Nile Rodgers. He didn’t write “China Girl” which has nothing to do with heroin. It was co-written by Iggy Pop & Bowie, 1st on Iggy’s album “The Idiot” (brilliant album). He produced the album Bowie covered it on. Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️
I love Bowie. But you'll NEVER find crap like this in a Bryan Ferry demo stash, cos it ain't there... He wrote the whole 1st two Roxy albums, all his first attempt songs were used, as his introduction to the World Of Music making, stepping up and forming a band, after teaching Art for a while since College. Bowie loved what those guys were doing (saying GLAM was only ever him, "Roxy & T.Rex for 18 months"). David was trying all sort to breakthrough for ages until he lucked upon Mick Ronson... THANK God he did. Best years of Rock ever. But for perfection consider Roxy Music's rise and what they brought!
If this was not Bowie, it would be considered sh**. Sorry, just being truthful. Probably why it’s taken this long to surface. How many people have covered it since it’s surfaced.... none
froogy25 I'm not sure what you're trying to say here ? Is it that you judge quality from number of sold records ? Covers ? One reason why it wasn't greatly covered would be that it wasn't ever published as a genuine track, this is the only existing format from Bowie - A 4- track home recorded demo with unbalanced inputs. Another good reason is that others would've made it sound like sh**, as this track needs the vocal authenticity from it's creator to carry the lyrics. Besides, you could count this track as a predecessor to shadow Man that came out some ten years later with great success. I find this to be a true gem, a masterpiece in waiting that just never happened. It still waits for someone to do a fresh sharp recording.
How many exceptionally good songs does this man have????? Every time I turn around I'm hearing something else that I haven't heard before...and I've been listening to him for 40 years...
Ditto!
Yep-he was prolific and some!
Right! "You've Got a habit of leaving me" by Davy Jones and the Lower third is a fave of mine for sure
😊❤😊
Me too!!!!!!
Em que dimensão eu estava em 67s o surreal.............vida Loka horrível...............🤘🎸🤘
Idk how Bowie said that he didn't like his voice, he's the best singer ever, he's the art rock
The best, ever 😊🎸🎉🎉🇩🇪
He thought that his voice was meant for doing demos to sell the song, so he would make simple recordings, as song writers do. But, as we all know, he has an amazing voice. I still miss him.
Through my window I can see
If the world is there for me
Will my shadow on the floor let me be?
And tomorrow calls my name
But I don't want to go
Through the burning flames of time
C'est la vie
C'est la vie
With my friends I play the tune
Warm and tired within my room
And the crackle of the fire whispered low
Now tomorrow takes my hand
But I don't want to go
Through the burning flames of time
C'est la vie
C'est la vie
How can I sail my good times
Over the waves of sorrow?
Show me tomorrow
Show me tomorrow
So that I will know
La la la la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la
Now tomorrow takes my hand
But I don't want to go
Through the burning flames of time
C'est la vie

Très belle chanson pour les adolescents, adolescente elle m'a beaucoup touchée ❤
Bowie said he and a friend used to sneak into recording studios and make demos. This must be one of them. What a great song. Many artists would have pinned their entire careers on it. Thanks.
Sweet and tender David..always in our hearts.
Omg he's so sweet 😍 We love you David
Wow!!! Non sentivo questa canzone da anni!!! Sempre bellissima! Grandissimo Bowie...love forever
It's beautiful and very sad.❤
Not totally sad, but sweet and sour or bitter sweet, like life and all the Bowie's songs 're indeed. Bref, c'est la vie, comme on dit ici en France avec fatalisme 🤗
i love hearing something by him I've not heard before. a really lovely demo!
It's a demo from '67 that was not heard until an acetate was sold at an auction in 1993.
idk why my youtube algorithm has been showing me a lot of early david bowie related media but i’m here for it
Bowie makes such a good mod, the height of cool
The greatest to ever live
My heart hurts.
GENIUS 💝
Wow I love this never head this before thanks for this treasure David Bowie ❤🎉
He was twenty years old. Never heard this before. Ever priceless 💖🤣
what a voice
È sempre un'emozione ascoltare la sua voce.
Dropped from so many labels before he really got into his stride this should have been top 10 at least.
I was born that year.
Sounds like an early version of 'Shadow Man'.
+Allan Zane, it is. ;)
Got that right!
Yes it remembers me a bit of Shadow man, too,in some part of the melody, but there is an early version of Shadow man,too...
C'est la vie.

Beautifully said, Nell!! You made me cry again.......but how lucky we are to live same time with him, aren't we.
Miss him terribly, though.
Nell your words on this day are the nicest, sweetest most honest that I have read. Was a rock star so openly and widely and dare I say it joyfully mourned worldwide ever before?
How did I make it this far without having heard this demo? Nice surprise.... ~;^\~
You can hear the Velvet Underground influence in his vocals wow...
Great, rare song. Thanks 4 sharing, you rock!
C'est la vie and bon voyage, David! x
great music!
Totally inspired me to create the song "Space Buoy -Bowie's Love Child" on RUclips ... Bowie fans are the best!
A friend has a bunch of Bowie demos from ‘65.

David Bowie looks like a mod junior executive here.
Where on Earth did you find this, it's terrific?
Its from a album
@@garrold7123 hello
This is a very early incarnation of Shadowman...
Melody is very similar
This is actually quite nice. Too bad there's no finished version.
Herbert Wells
Check the unreleased track "Shadow Man" which was a later version of this! Particularly the 2000 version is the more finished one.
This is David's Shiny Flower Happy People era.
Diemžēl Viņa ēra. Beigusies❤
anyone else hear Shadow Man ?
someone post the lyrics please :c
Nice barnet
Before Davey , became David
Would fit on Heathen, I think
Why did this song only stay a demo I love it people say I sound like bowie and style of writing type in you tube Lilly's house john Ryan
A demo of shadowman.
not shadowman...

well he had talent even without earrings and make-up....and it's DONOVAN to be correct.

Sorry, I don’t hear David’s voice
are you deaf ?
Same here , don’t sound right
If, say, Oasis had written this song at the height of Brit Rock it would be as well known as Wonderwall.
I love Bowie. But you'll NEVER find crap like this in a Bryan Ferry demo stash, cos it ain't there... I think its that he says that his older songs were so underrated and if they were made by anyone else, they would be trash.
