It's from all the people moving here not registering their cars and having accidents with NO INSURANCE. Do you think that every very plate you see from CA or other places have insurance? if they’re too damn cheap to register their car, then they definitely don’t have the best coverage. PASS A LAW to aggressively go after those who don’t register their vehicles and have insurance in NV and put the fines towards paying down or subsidizing insurance rates for permanent residents.

I retired and moved to Las Vegas from Honolulu in April 2023. I have no accident or claim in 30+ years, same insurance company, same car, and my rate increased by 110%. I looked up the auto fatality rates of Las Vegas for the first 3 months of 2023, and it was more than 3 times that of Honolulu. A lot of people in Las Vegas drives too fast, may be because there are so many straight and wide roads and the chances of being caught speeding are low. There are also a lot of DUIs. May be the city needs to raise the penalties for speeding and DUI to reduce the number of accidents, and hopefully reduce our auto insurance premiums.

With electric, water and natural gas rates skyrocketing (combined for a 3100sf home with 2 adults and 2 infants is over 1,100/mo), to say nothing of ridiculous fuel prices driven up by CA pricing, it’s fast reaching the point of being financially untenable to live in NV. I have the cheapest possible insurance with USAA, with zero claims ever filed in the 26 years I’ve been with them, receive every possible discount available, never gotten a ticket, driving a 6 year old, paid in full SUV and deliberately set a high deductible. And my policy, for one vehicle and another in storage, is $225/mo, having just reached this amount after two increases in the last 90 days, from a starting point of $195. The only accident I have ever had was deer related. Drove one year through a particularly nasty Minnesota blizzard with no incidents. Drove at speeds appropriate for the conditions. Maintained safe distances from the other cars. Took my time and got to where I was going. Even got to a truck stop only to learn the roads had been closed for conditions. There really is no excuse for these crashes being shown in this clip.

This is an experience I had concerning licensing but I’m speaking solely of commercial driver’s license. I used to work for a big company on border with Mexico. A lot of drivers bringing freight into/out of Mex, had very little to no experience when they got their licenses in Mex. They would go to their DMV and pay a bribe amount to get their license, then they would go to US DMV and take the written test, no driving test needed as their Mex license showed they had experience and were grandfathered in. So, in a matter of days or weeks an inexperienced driver would now be hauling freight on our highways with the same little to no experience they started out with. And that’s how some get their license.

Terrible drivers out there one actually cut me off causing a small 'fender bender' the only damage to my car was a cracked grill (100$ plastic piece) so I couldn't care less and would have rather let it all go. unfortunately for the other person I dented their truck right where the rear camera sits. They went on to file a police report, insurance exchanged and they filed a claim. My insurance obviously went up something near 30% but funny enough after a year it went back down to where it was. I'm paying less than this person for similar terms (I have 1k deductible) because I rather pay less for insurance and SAVE for any vehicle fixes perks of driving a base model that isn't packed with unnecessary electronics. A side mirror for my car is hundreds of dollars less because of it. but oh no I have to drive around without the "blind spot light"... its called LOOKING before you switch lanes.

I drove around Vegas for almost 2 years without registering my car but I did have insurance on it.
Reason I didn't register was because the Jeep I was driving was over 20 years old and it would cost almost $200 to register it. That Jeep replaced the Pontiac Grand Am that was 10 years NEWER than the Jeep and cost me $80 to register it.
I found out that NVs laws regarding registration NOW was based on MSRP for a vehicle and a little is deducted every year. Who the heck would pay MSRP on a new car?? Not me!!

Say 1000 for an example, your insurance company is allowed to increase your rate for 5 years which means your rates will go up by 250-300 per year. Someone with a poor driving record that already has a high insurance rate. They get that increase, and they just stop carrying insurance or go to a budget brand. That means the insurance company must recoup the costs. How? They come to you, Mr good driver and raise your rates! It’s a broken system that’s designed to punish all drivers, for what? I suggested drafting a bill changing the state insurance commissioner's position from appointed to ELECTED. In that same bill, not allow anyone to run for the position who has an interest in or has had prior positions that favored insurance companies, such as a lobbyist. NO ONE LIKES THAT IDEA. No No No. You know, its the insurance commissioner that receives the request for a rate increase and approves or not. Every state should have an insurance commissioner who is elected by the people, for the people, who will fight for the people or risk being fired by the people.

Gone are the days when you could pick up a new side view mirror at K-Mart for $25 and put it on yourself. Now it costs a thousand or two to replace those due to the sophisticated technology they have - heating mechanism, blind spot monitoring, turn signal lights, etc.

When pulled over by police officers as you’re driving and have no insurance due to unable to afford then we go to court and tell the judge reason why you don’t have insurance because you can’t afford it anymore. Then what happens if you pay a fine it’s gonna be smaller than what you pay for a month. It’s not a good idea to think this way but it may be cheaper to pay that court sign going to pay monthly insurance. Think About it

The higher rates are probably due to the way that everybody drives. We have four vehicles insured. Two of them are full coverage and we pay $286 a month in Nevada. People claim that all the bills in Vegas especially are so expensive and they don’t have money blah blah blah but you can go to any given store in Vegas. I don’t care if it’s TJ Maxx or the local malls. They are packed. People spending money like crazy, but then they complain that they have no money. It’s common sense. Look at all the stolen vehicles in the vegas area. Of course the insurance rates are going to go up. They have to get their money back somehow. Why don’t you look to the local police department why don’t we have enough police on the ground. You can sometimes go all day long driving all over Vegas and never see even one police officer. We pay over $1000 a month for one semi in the state of Nevada.
