I am in the minority but I think the handling of Book’s backstory is one of the best parts of the film. Who he was is his; he made a new life for himself and decided who he would be (thematic for Mal). He doesn’t owe it to anyone to explain himself. To borrow a line from another fantastic show, “some things can’t be told; you either live them or you don’t, but they can’t be told”. It might be as stern as we ever hear Book with any of the crew, because it’s the first time he’s ever actually addressed the question without deferring or ignoring it. Genuinely one of my favorite moments in the film thanks to Ron Glass
There's a difference between having a similar idea, and making something look almost identical both visually and gameplay wise. Almost all of the animals shown in this game's preview is identical to Horizon, the one standing out the most being the Tallneck creature with the exact same look and animations. Even Palworld at least took pokemon's idea and said "what if we made pokemon but survival craft and guns?" so that its at least a somewhat unique spin on it. The only difference that Light of Motiram has is an annoying protagonist with an unbearable sounding voice actress.

Yes, basically they weren't the first who created the concept of robotics: robot animals. I'm sure I can pull a 60's Sci-fi book that has this very concept. The plot of Horizon itself is an amalgamation of scifi ideas taken from books and movies, so...
@@futavadumnezo A book uses text, and is almost never patented, since you cannot have ownership of an IDEA. Anything that even remotely claim to have ownership of anything will expire after 20 years. If the animal-to-robot design is actually patented and it can be proven that aspects of it are clear-cut copies of the original works, it can and most likely will be taken down. There is also a humanoid civlization that evolved along side them, the Zoidians they lived in tribes before unifying into two political factions a republic and an empire. When the humanoid tribes went to war they'd modify these wild Zoids or remove the Zoid core and build an artificial body around the core with a cockpit for direct control giving birth to the first Battle Zoids we come to know.

Ripping off a popular title is one thing, but this is breaking the mold. The entire industry is built on the concept of merging the best parts of great games in order to evolve the medium
That’s fair but hasn’t this happened with the first descendant?didn’t they also copy off from other games but they had a good start and I haven’t really heard about that game anymore so I’m assuming it’s kinda fallen off, possibly the same thing will happen with this game?
Finally, a logical take. It's so jarring to me to see how many people will just blurt out a dozen different games and claim "they copied these dozen games!"
When in reality, this game looks great. Sure, they have some similarities to other games. But are we gonna pretend that isn't true for many games? Do people think that horizon zero dawn invented the idea of mechanical animals? Zoids, Power Rangers, Transformers... all 3 have had mechanical animals for literal decades. It is an old (and cool) concept and was absolutely not created by horizon.

One hundred percent agree. So long as you aren't straight up lifting or duplicating assets from other games by studying the other games code, it should be permissible, and I'm pretty sure it is. I don't know if this game will turn out okay, but the people crying foul are just being babies IMO. Sony doesn't own the idea of "robot animals" because that concept predates the Horizon games. They're just the first to use it in an open world setting. And I'm willing to bet at least a few of the haters and naysayers are just Sony diehards that are feeling threatened.

Games have double standards nowadays. As a souls fan, I want more souls-like games, and most people want it too. As a horizon fan, I like this too, but I think for most people companies are milking the franchise too much that it also affects the mecha-animatronic genre itself on not being liked well, especially the recent flop of the lego horizon. Games that gamers enjoy are about bringing new innovation, creativity, fun, and frequency release.
Frequency of release is debatable. Consistent quality is more important; I waited over a decade for a new Armored Core, and I was satisfied with VI
12 years after Dragon's Dogma, and we're still nipping at the boss's feet and shins in 2024.

If they think Horizon has the rights to mechanized animals.. Horizon owes a lot of fucking money to Zoids.
