Why not start small? This 1980 launch Compass 28 is the perfect reason to get out on the water with ease this summer. She's probably the best budget yacht under $20k on the market today. Since first launched over 40 years ago, the Compass 28 retains its reputation as a very safe all weather yacht, manageable for either a young family or the solo sailor, and perfect for bringing on your sailing and skippering skills.
This yacht has just had her annual anti-foul, and extra love from her owners with a full topside polish. She's fitted with a Yanmar 8ph inboard diesel which has just had a significant annual service with the addition of a new exhaust elbow and a reconditioned water pump. She obligingly starts even in cold weather first go.
The previous owners replaced her standing and most running rigging in 2015. They also added a new Jabsco manual toilet and other upgrades included a new boom cover, headsail UV cover, boat awning and tiller cover - all by North Sails.
The sail inventory includes a roller furling headsail, two mains, 2 spare headsails and a symmetric spinnaker and pole. She also comes complete with a tiler arm autohelm and cockpit cushions for added comfort when moored or at anchor, and lots of useful equipment, spares and tools. The transom s/s boarding ladder offers easy access from the dinghy or when swimming.
The interior is dry and inviting with upgraded cushions with blue upholstery. She sleeps 4 comfortably but with the option to sleep 2 more (total 6) when the saloon table is lowered. There is a contained toilet compartment with wash basin and a decent sized forward (owner's) cabin with deck access.
The yacht comes complete with a brand new inflatable dinghy and 2.5 Yamaha outboard motor which complete this amazing little 'ready to go' package.
