6:53 " all the possibilities that you'll never ever use " - never truer words been spake! :)
Well, you do use them...once or twice to find what you want and then keep it that way :P
I've always thought of this as kind of a close-minded thing. I've had two bases with twiddly switches, a G&L ASAT and a Warwick Corvette $$ (like the one shown in this video), and truthfully I twiddle the fuck out of my switches all the time. Like actually. It's simply because I only have two basses - I don't have a single coil bass, a humbucker bass, and a precision bass to go between, so I do best to mimic the sound; and it works pretty well.
I'll admit, when I was newer to playing, I rarely touched my knobs and twiddly switches. But as I got older and better at playing, and started simply listening and pushed my confirmation biases to the side (i.e. "I'm playing a humbucker bass and that's just what it has to sound like"), I began to twiddle my switches constantly (not throughout a track, but changing them per track), and now I know the controls so well that it's ingrained into my brain as to what sounds I can get out of what bass. Obviously I'll still hopefully add P and J basses to my collection over time, but for someone like me, the twiddly switches and fiddly knobs are pretty great for me to have.
Jeez, all this twiddly switch and fiddly knob talk has got me wanting to wank it. Have a good one guys, I'll be back in a bit.
Nathan's tone on that thumb is great. I love the 'Warwick Growl'
These two are simply the best duo at Andertons. Throw the Captain in the mix, those are who I'd hang with
And Pete!
@@Astral_Wave noooo, I couldn't handle Danish Pete
Finally some Warwick love! Thumb bass is the best!
Love to here you guys jam. Would be great to have another bass man to jam with myself. Sadly enough, no other bassists in town here. As always thumbs up to you two.
I have the Streamer LX 4 and I can say that I am one happy owner! The variety of amazing tones that i can get from it is unbelievable!
Bassman 323 I just ordered a streamer LX 4 and should receive it tomorrow. I have been a music man stingray player for several years now and was looking to diversify my tonal palate. What is one thing that you would have changed, or would like to change about your streamer? Just a question seeking insight. Thanks.
"possibilities that you'll never ever use." Totally understand that this is tongue-in-cheek, howevaaaaa...

If that sounds like "too much" for you, then... okay? Pull all the knobs out and fill it in with wood filler.

Ever since Adam Neely, I can't stop looking at wrist positioning
Yeah even when you do the primus strumming you got to have your hand at a perfect position or it will be painful
I have developed carpel tunnel from my poor wrist position so that's very important. I wish I knew sooner
Love hearing u both play. Great demo
I love when these two guys play together!
Warwick is one jamming bass and when matched with those MarkBass amps and cabinets it is a marriage made in heaven!! I've been playing a vintage Kramer DMZ4001 (aluminum neck with DiMarzio pickups) through a MarkBass CMD102P for the past 10 years. After seeing the Warwick GPS Corvette $$ 5 in action I think it is time to retire the Kramer and go with the Warwick!!
I have the 4 string german Corvette $$ in swamp ash and thats my main bass. Fricken love it!
Great jam at the end gentlemen. Bravo!!
Great video displaying all the characteristics!
Great playing again guys, always love a Warwick grrrrrrr.
Thanks for hitting us with your rhythm stick. Sounded great!
Lee's playing is fantastic in ghese Warwick videos. Well in, mate. Real nice sound.
Ahahaha I see why Nathan and Jem are such a good fit in Frost*. Two hilarious gentlemen and fantastic musicians!
I think the thumb is one of the coolest basses on the planet. I hear it's neck-heavy, but if i could ever afford one i'd have one!!
Warwick!!!! Very Nice sounds and build.
Awesome tone and playing!
Great video as always guys. That Corvette in bubinga sounded amazing at a great price. My streamer LX5 shows up today ... lusting after a Thumb... that's probably next. Cheers
In 5 years, these bases have quite literally doubled in price. The Corvette is currently just shy of £3k on Andertons in 2024! 😮
I've got a Corvette. I got a Custom order with a string/drinking straw version of my face on the body, and full size, removable pasta position markers. I run neck pickup, full boost on the bass, full cut on the treble into a 10w Maplin with a 5inch speaker, maxed out.
Looking for a band.
War Zone r/whoooosh
That outro jam was sooo good!
Wicked jam at the end lads.
I own that exact GPS Thumb BO 5 and changed the hardware with black ones (bridge, pots, pegs) and recently installed the brass just-a-nut III, IT SOUNDS PHENOMENAL
How is the balance when standing? I’ve really wanted one for quite some time, but reading of the neck dive when standing has kind of turned me off of them...
@@WheresTheM3tal On my Thumb (BO 4 with a maple neck) there is no neck dive, but on a strap the whole bass is placed more to the left than most basses.
Just in case this helps anyone before a large purchase:
Most Warwick basses DON’T have an active/passive mode with that push/pull knob.
The knob *bypasses* the active circuit but the bass still needs a battery to work, so it’s not passive and the old ‘if your battery dies during a gig you switch it over’ doesn’t apply. A few of their basses are genuinely passive and work without a battery; the only one I know for sure is the Corvette $$, but it’s worth double checking beforehand if that’s an important feature for you.
Is the need for a battery when bypassing the preamp because the pickups themselves are active?
@@thomascordery7951 yeah that's right, for example the Corvette $$ has passive pickups so the push-pull taps into those but the Thumb BO has active pickups so the push-pull will just by bypass the preamp.
False stop lying mate yesh these german made has the pull snd push stop lying
@@recordlabeldao7820 Sorry mate, you're 100% wrong.
I didn't say Warwick's don't have a Push/Pull knob, I said they all do, but it's only an active/passive switch on Basses with Passive pickups. On Basses with active pickups, the push/pull is just a preamp bypass and the bass won't work without a battery - which means it's active.
I wrote the comment with confidence because I own 3 German made Warwicks but since you've called my a liar twice, here are specs pulled directly from the Warwick website for a Corvette $$ and Thumb BO:
- Warwick Teambuilt Pro Series Corvette $$, 4-String, Passive Pickups and Active Electronics
* Pickups: Passive MEC MM-Style humbuckers
* Electronics: Active MEC 2-way electronics
- Warwick Teambuilt Pro Series Thumb BO, 4-String
* active MEC J/J pickups
* active MEC 2-band electronics
Note that the description for the $$ explicitly states the pickups are passive because it's an exception to their mostly active lineup.

11:08 You're not gonna get a lot of heavy bass out of a Thumb 5? Are you 'avin a fookin giggle mate?! xD
I recently bought a used 4-string Corvette $$, with the same electronics as the one in this video it’s from 2007, made in Germany. I got it for less than $1,000. I was inspired by a guy I met who bought a used Custom Shop 5-string thumb bass who got that for about $1,200. I as fortunate enough to get a good deal on mine, granted it wasn’t from the custom shop, but it’s an amazing instrument.
Got a 05 FNA Jazz Man for $800 from a Mexican bassist, body is beat up but the neck is in excellent shape. Godly setup, immediate difference from the Schecter and upper end Sterling basses I've owned, and easily whoops this mint decked out Carvin I tried as well.
9:50 ish Ohhhh boy that's a tasty jam
OMG! FINALLY THE GPS
Niiiiice Lee! Your playing of Rhythm Stick was super clean lad.
Wow. That intro was so cool.
The Streamer sounds AMAZING at 15:24
Princess Balamb I agree with you 💯%!! 👌🏽
9:17 one of the most inspiring jams in RUclips starts
I loved the brass just-a-nuts
🤣 killed me when he broke it down: “Which is BROWN…, it’s BROWN…”
25:03 🤩
That catched my ear as well! Brilliant
So funny great basses if you got a spare corvette one going! 😜😂😎🇬🇧
Супер! Вы классные ребята! 👍
Will you be doing a review of the blackstar unity amps
Actualy on my Warwick Vampyre BO made in German i do hear the difference between passive and active electronics even if eq is flat. And i preffer it is on even with eq is flat.
Esses baixos são lindos
I was born in 87! If you fancy selling that thumb, Mr King, send me a message!
What’s the difference between the corvette and the thumb? I’ve heard people make them sound pretty much the same. Are there any obvious differences I’m missing? (Aside from body shape of course).
Corvette sounds better
Fender guys !
Lol, 'you're not going to get very heavy bass out of this one'.
Ryan Martinie used them and if he isn't one of the damn heaviest bassists in metal, I don't know what to say.
There's a big difference between hearing a raw bass sound and one thru a MIX. Warwick basses do get lost a lot in mixes and you need to EQ a lil bit.
Did this guy on the left lend his voice for the Courage's computer in the series?
Did you ever check their electric upright basses?
5:50 Good thing when you own a Warwick bass is that you can adjust the height of your nuts! :X
Damn, sounds tasty
are they using different amps or no? the PJ basses sounded great but both basses the guy on the left used sounded like farts
Great video! Should try playing those basses through a Hartke amp and cab with alu speakers, makes a big difference...
"Hit me.. hit me!" R.I.P Ian Jury
I bought a Warwick bass around 10 years ago.
Unfortunately, there was a stock error and it had already been sold.
@@TonyTrupp It gets way better. I bought an Ibanez BTB bass that was both discontinued and had a small scratch somewhere on the back so the price came to around $200. I used it for around 8 years before replacing it with a PRS Gary Granger 5.
16:05. Hit me with your rhythm stick!
Too much drum machine in the mix. Can barely hear the basses in the intro.
Headphones that can handle bass are recommended.
Ectoplasmic36 I Understand and when I am REALLY trying to hear or compare instruments or amps I use my bose headphones.. but just passing through and literally couldn't even hear there were basses being played... all high hat?? That has never happened with your other bass videos before... and I watch them a lot.
I don't know what problem you have, I'm sitting with my DT 770's and everything is even and clear
That's the problem with a Warrick bass. It gets lost in a mix. To muddy for me not enough punch. They are good basses just not my tone
Marol The problem is people don't often peruse YT with their studio headphones on. I understand they are needed to REALLY hear the instruments and when doing such I personally wear them. But just passing through without them, all I hear is high hat, not much bass at all. Makes me think there is something wrong with video and wouldn't come back is all. Thinking about possible new viewers. Just trying to help. Just saying if video is meant to sell these basses it might not be productive in that endeavor..
Sucks that they dont make the dolphin anymore. It was the best, most overlooked bass I've ever played.
form52 they still make them.
9:30 - 10:30 PLEEEASE tell me the secret: why don't I hear any finger sliding, fretting noise at all? How do you do that? Really...
Bro that is a good question. I play a cort bass and you hear the sliding. In a musicstore I tried a Rickenbacker 4003 and it sounded so smooth, like no sliding sounds, no fret clicking and the string did not hit the fretboard.
Try flatwound strings
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Is there ever a time when they don't make it looks easy ?
Is that Nathan King who plays for Level 42?
Bob Wijntjes yep. He’s good
Sorry Nathan, the Thumb is actually one of the most popular basses amongst us bass players in the heavier genres... :-)
I'm sad that I don't live in london
Kim Gillespie why
It’s a toilet. You’re missing nothing.
After what Warwick did to Henning Pauly, I wouldn't touch one of their products. Stand up for principals and fight greedy corporations.
Has Warwick had any response?
turn the tone up guys.
I love those basses, but now all i got in mind is that they stole Henning Pauly GuitCon :(
It isn't that bad, they just had different opinions about the future of it.
And considering that they financed the thing it makes sense that they copyrighted the name.
DerEchteBold No it's bad because it is dishonesty. You can't put a price on an idea. They simply screwed him.
Whatever ...all the hate around now is just overblown and doesn't really reflect what Henning actually said.
On top of that ....we weren't there, or were we?!
Btw, before you assume things, I'm not against HP or something, I'm with his channel almost from the very beginning, I consider him a friend and he even made me a moderator there. I don't really agree with everything he says and does though, that's how it should be.
All the Best
Henning really doesn't hold a grudge it seems and lots of people don't get it and go overboard, just don't go overboard, alright ; )
DerEchteBold Justice was made anyways by Thomann #TGU18 😉
And Henning doesn't hold a grudge by appearance because he's a professional. But when I watched his announcement, it was easy to read between the lines and his eyes.
I quote him : "an idea I got under my shower"... "Working my ass off for 2 years"...
You won't manage to change my mind. I still think it's a bad move from Framus/Warwick.
its only 399$ everybody!
Hahaha, you'd be suprised :) You guys know that owner of that company doesn't even like music at all? Funny stuff :D
Really?
Im a supervison at a communications company and I hate utility work.
It doesnt means I dont know what Im doing or I dont do it right.
Succes comes from knowing how to run and advertize a bussiness.
...and just leave music to the musicians.
Im sure warwick owner is an smart guy who likes money and not necesarily music.
@@carlosvillegas8775 maybe bro but that was not my point. Warwick is a company using mobbing on its employees, owner is a bigot and racist, hates music but loves money. Instruments are of poor production quality, masterbuilt does not mean anything. How do i know that? I used to work there, had to run away from that place.
It is really hard to hear the tone of these basses when you play them together.
pew pew pew pew
E esse amplificador melhor ainda
NUT
21:51 He predicted the Ukraine war
Bass volumes were probably lower than usual but I think it's a testament to how underwhelming the markbass stuff really is...quite overrated
for fucks sake - they are not single coils on thumb - they are stacked humbuckers, and they are not passive - they are active. the switch is a preamp bypass, not active/passive in this case.
Ok calm down
Nice "cartoony" tone from these basses...look wise as well.
For that kind of money you can buy a USA fender jazz bass
Stephen Kennedy Yes, you can, if you like them better. I for one like Warwick better after playing Fender for 15 years.
LOL! Fender better than Warwick.
This like the “I listen to real metal” type of person
Can you guys please just do a video where you jam for half an hour. Then stick the information down the bottom as annotations. I only come here for the jams.
SPECTOR!
Firs.....D'OH
The guy on the left is annoying... he doesn’t stop interrupting..
First
Looks like driftwood, sounds like a pan, heavy, awfully thick neck
first dislike :p
Spector > Warwick
...A company only interested in money with an absolutely shocking lack of customer service & care.
I got the best customer service I think I could have gotten when I ordered new brass nut to replace my old nut for my thumb. I ordered it directly from Warwick Germany, had it in less than a week, and got a followup email to make sure I was happy with the product.
triphex Not the same for most people, if you’re part of BassChat UK go and look at the Warwick customer service thread. Thousands of unhappy customers with issues that Warwick have been all too negligent to help with.
I was sold a 5 string corvette with a broken truss rod, Warwick didn’t want to help, contacted their customer services multiple times, was even willing to purchase a new neck if they could source me one. They didn’t want to sell me a replacement truss rod or help with sizes etc.
In the end I was passed to Dana B Goods who hooked me up with a truss rod, removed the fretboard, installed the new truss rod and sold on as soon as I’d fixed it up. Last Warwick I’ll ever buy & own.
I saw you talking shit about Warwick in another couple of videos.I've had an amazing experience when I needed to replace my Warwick bridge.Warwick does not sell necks individually and doing so just for you would be a difficult thing to do since every neck made has a serial number that matches a body and that is supposed to be on that body.Seems like the whole point of your RUclips channel is to talk shit and nonsense about Warwick, how pathetic...
The Warwick factory is supposed powered by 100% "Renewable Energy", which means, I suppose, they'll continue to produce their crappy instruments while the rest of Germany shuts down. "German Engineering"? What a laugh. Look at that appalling headstock design at 1:41 - The E string fouls the B string! Other strings would also foul if they didn't carefully reduce the number of turns to an absolute minimum, which itself is a problem, resulting in tuning instability. And all so they can have the lamest-looking headstock in the business?! Bad, bad design.
