I have not seen every All about the Bass episodes but out of all that I have seen so far, that opening jam was the best sounding so far. Nice mood and texture and it seemed like you were both feeling it. Great opening. Your videos are clicking along nicely. Great job guys.
Gotta say that if tone is in the fingers, Lee has the fingers of God. Regardless of the bass he plays it is just supreme. Musicality = Check. Tone = Check. Groove = Redlining. Is this guy in a band?
That would a freakin' blast! Stu Hamm, John Myung, William Murde...err...Bryan Beller, Kyle Brock, and Steve Harris could all make for interesting videos.
Ok... I've watched other reviews on the Sire/Marcus Miller M2, but this one convinced me... I need to get an M2... because of the quality of the sound and the flexibility of that pre-amp, it punches above its weight... damned nice bass for the price, imho. Time to start putting some money aside for one.
The M2 has a bit more modern preamp, with 18V and active/passive modes. The SR300 has a amazingly comfortable 5-piece neck. Hard to go wrong with either bass.
Wow, very hard choice I think. I feel the M2 just tips the balance with that mid frequency on the pre-amp for me but, the color of the SR300 is just beautiful. They both sound so good and great playing doesn't make the choice any easier. Oh what to do!!!
Both basses sounded really good. But for me, the most practical choice is the Sire M2, because it have a much modern preamp with active/passive switch, very useful.
Would love to see a show on ESP basses, especially the Fseries - one of the cheapest and most easily available 35” scale 4 strings, but surprisingly hard to find reviews of online!
Absolutely agree James! I bought a secondhand F-104 when I got back into playing bass a few years ago. I quickly "upgraded" to a '404 - which I still have to this day. Awesome basses!
The Ibanez tap/humbucker/power tap switch has turned out to very useful for me. That mid selector off the Sire would be cool but I just can’t beat the neck on the Ibanez.
@@bflo1000 personally I'm not a fan of Harley Bentons at this price range. They sound fine but they feel cheaper than an Ibanez or a Sire. That's personal preference though, I'm glad people have options like Harley Benton if they're not into the Sire or Ibanez lines
Yeah, I agree with theRealAV8r... the M2 is a damned fine bass for the money... I actually have a $1300 Fender P bass, and I actually like the sound of the M2 better, partially because of the flexibility available due to the pre-amp. I'm planning on getting an M2 in the very near future.
I won't lie, I'm a guitar player through and through but your passion and energy is really something and I've quite grown to appreciate good bass chops these days so I've just got to say... cheers lads. Great work!

I think it works fine. I’m not concerned with nonsense about what it looks like. I’m here to hear what the basses sound like with any and all eq tweaks, finger, pick and slap tones. No other reviewers are anywhere near as good as Lee and Nathan!! Plus great and entertaining personalities! Their shows are entertaining as well as informative. Not to mention they are both MONSTER players!!👍🏽😎🔊🔊
The Ibanez has a Nyatoh body and Jatoba fingerboard, if we're to believe their website. The pickup switch is for humbucking/single coil/single coil with bass boost. The instrument is so good, I bought two; one for home and one for away.
The Ibanez is my hobby bass and as a guitar player it takes me away from playing my guitars, a welcome distraction when I feel the urge to drop some phat bass ❤
I think the hidden bonus of 24 frets is less body and thus less weight, which is kinda nice. I find fender style basses a bit heavy. I was a fan of the old DX4/DX5 Ibanez soapbars but I quite like the sound of the new sr300 pickups. The Sire's passive tone wins this for me though, it does something different than an active high shelf and I like to ride the tone control, particularly in small pub covers gigs where I have to swap genres fast and there isn't a sound tech to keep me in the mix.
Man, this is some of the best stuff coming out of the Anderton's studio. The playing is tremendous!!! I'm a guitarist playing bass in a cover band and I know NOTHING. Looking for a bass now and so happy there is some helpful in-depth analysis of what's available. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
How is M2? I heart it's set up horribly, is it true? Did you have to do any work before it played properly? I really wanna get it but I hear so many bad things I'm kind of leaning towards Ibanez, any info you can share would be appreciated! Thanks
I personally love the Ibanez 300e basses, well the whole SR range, especially for home practice, just so comfortable and easy to play. Both pickups, single coil mode, slight bass boost, love it
Gotta say, i think i go ibanez on this round. Edit: i went with the M2 and i will prob be returning it. The extra long scale length might just be a bit too much for my guitar hands. Also the active settings produce a lot of "noises" and weird stuff when activated. Maybe thats just on my model...
I have a cheap Ibanez acoustic bass that I paid 250 bucks for on Amazon. While you can tell the materials are inexpensive, it sounds terrific, (I use a 15 watt Fender Rumbler at home) and the action is that of an expansive guitar,
I love all three of my Ibanez basses. You can’t beat the sound, play ability, look, feel, and affordability of these phenomenal basses. A slimmer neck is definitely a big perk with these basses.
I like to think I'm open minded -- I would play the h*ck out of a Stingray, even a SUB-branded one -- but I guess I am not in fact five-knobs and a switch open-minded.
My only concern with both of these basses is how well the shape of them will age. The SR300 has a shape very reminiscent of the cars of 2000 to 2010 where everything was rounded. The Sire has a more modern rounded with edge look. Sure those cars looked great at the time, but these days they look terrible. Will be bass in 10 years end up looking like a Vauxhall Vectra? The classic shape guitars don’t have this issue
NecronN00b 82 interesting point. I found out that, with cars, you can use this rule of thumb to find out in they will age well or not: “Does the car have a clear shape, clear lines and overall a clear identity?” If yes, it will age well, if not, it won’t. Examples: VW Passat B2 (aged well in my eyes) and Hiunday Elantra 2002 (a miserable car)
This Ibanez Soundgear-shape has been around for like... 30 years or so. I remember seeing these Soundgears in the early '90s when I started playing. To me it's timeless.
Just the lower horn issue with the M2 cutting at the 21st instead of maybe cutting it down to the 23rd fret like the Ibanez bass. Amazing bass otherwise.
It's so disconcerting hearing Lee's bass from my left and Nathan's from the right despite them sitting the opposite way!
The editor must have his ears wired wrong
The do the same thing in the Sounds Like vids a lot.
If I were the editor I'd check to see if those monitors were the right way around lol
I was just about to post the same thing, LOL. Thanks for saving me the trouble...
Mishak Heyman easy fix.... plug in headphones and swap them around so left ear on the headphones is on your right ear! 👍
Just hold your phone upside down
You guys are both fantastic bass players.
Amazing bass players 👍
Can someone please post skinny Lee's last name so I can research if he has any music out? I am a huge fan of how he plays!
Lee Ryan Clarke
Lee Rylan Clarke ;) Lol love you man

I’ve had my Ibanez SR300 for a year or so now and am still chuffed with it. Like the slim neck, it doesn’t weigh a ton and the tones are pretty sweet.
right, i love mine too. have it for likeeee 3 months now? despite the humbuckers i can get some pretty höfner-ish tones with some chromes on it
Great bang for the buck!! Love my Sr300e!

Mishak Heyman - isn’t that Nathan?
@@JB-zs4hu oh damn didn't see you said Lee, my bad

You cant go wrong with ibanez sr300e. The sound , the eq, the playability, the neck profile. I have a sire v3, squier and fender. Ibanez wins

no to me it sounds thin too - no mids - no low mids - i like the ibanez much better! (and i thought i would like the SIre much better)
