330 - Analogue just released their Pocket portable FPGA game system that plays Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance and even Game Gear games with an optional adapter. In the future it will also play Atari Lynx and Neo Geo Pocket Color cartridges. But is this device any good or it simply a money grab?

Just a head's up... the price of the Pocket will be $220 starting on 12-14-21. I still think it's worth it.
If they sent me one for free I'd say it was worth $220 as well
Wouldn’t it be nice if they just always had stuff in stock. Sucks that everything they make is sold out forever the first day it releases. I’m sure they make good money off their consoles but why can’t they crank it out like the retroid pockets? They must want too much control and a limited supply for the 1,000’s of gamers out there. I’ll just have to stick to overpriced mods for the original consoles.
200? Retro future said 500?
@@MahkyVmedia1 Would you? They sent a $550 Analog Nt Mini for free and I ripped it apart. Same with Mega Sg.
Looks pretty awesome.
“Fat 32” is what I used to call myself 2 years ago … now I’m fat 34
A winner is you!
Of all the reviews that dropped today, I preferred to watch Joe because of the way he gets straight to the point in these type of reviews.
Time is valuable. I appreciate detail but there are times when there isn’t time for it. Thanks, Joe!
Since everyone in my sub-feed is reviewing this today I might as well start with Game Sack
same.
Same. I got four reviews up for it on my subs in the last 30min or so. Gotta choose one.
Same here metal jesus will probably be the second one I watch
@@theboys9657 isn't metal jesus the guy who scammed his fans??
@This channel sure exists alright bro no he wasent 😂
2:49 I think we need another tier ranking episode: BEST SILICA GEL PACKET THAT COMES WITH VIDEO GAME CONSOLES
Just hope Joe hasn’t been brainwashed by MLIG to think those are good to eat. Hmmm…
I actually died after eating the silica gel packet that came with my Arcade 1up, posting this from the afterlife. Was definitely worth it.
They should really put a warning on those packets: "Might cause dead when u eat"
Does Chubbyemu know about this?
That face he made before scarfing down the 5 Silica Gel packets was priceless 😂😂
Gave me strong soyjack vibes, which always makes me laugh
I wanted to let you know about 7 different channels I follow all posted their videos on this device at the same time today and yours is the one review I chose to watch. I’m not really into handheld gaming so a quick and detailed rundown of this device‘a features seemed the most sensible. Good work!
Modern Vintage Gamer did an excellent review as well.
Same here, altho only saw it by Rerez next yo Game Sacj I follow. But was interesting lol.
Man I was about to type the exact same thing 😉👍
@@Gatorade69 Agreed! He's cool, MLIG's review is probably amazingly in-depth, Modern Vintage Gamer, This Does Not Compute, all probably great reviews. Still glad I chose this one! 👍
I came for the stop motion and Super Monkey Ball skills
Well, now we know why Joe's humour is so dry. All the silica gel sachets. Keep eating Joe, keep eating. I love it.
You could say it's self-desiccating humour.
@@3dmarth brilliant! 👏
From Joe's reaction it probably does not taste like Nerds candy.
4pm on a Monday and Joe empties his sack here in the UK - I’m honoured ❤️
honestly i am disappointed MLIG didn't mention all the snacks the handheld and accessories come with
Puttin the Master System adapter on top of the Game Gear adapter with a game in it would look ridiculous.
I get a bunch of these reviews on my subscription feed, but this is the only one where the reviewer eats that gel stuff.
Fun fact: the Analogue Pocket plus the dock plus all four system adaptors is still less than a recapped PC Engine GT, never mind one modded with a modern display.
It's true. When they announced the Turbo adapter, I sold my LCDDRV modded Express for like $900 or something stupid.
Nanoloop, the "music app" included in the pocket has been available in a stand alone cartridge for quite some years now with all the midi-sync stuff available for the regular gameboy as well.
It’s an app as well, got it on my phone
My Life in Gaming had their review go live exactly the same time as yours. I chose your review and that just made it even funnier with the burn.
2:24. Looks like they used a freakin’ Dremel to cut the microsd slot.😂
@@Gatorade69 🤣
10:10 - I see we have learned nothing from our previous mistake... We have learned nothing at all.
All jokes aside great work covering the Analogue, I might consider picking it up since I was interested in stuff like it.
3:55 lmao the 199k and poot sound got me
Whoa on a Monday morning? 😮
He's trying to beat the other mainstream youbers for views.
@@GaggleofDoozies not really. The embargo is the same for everyone. MVG accidentally released his video early but had to private it and release when the embargo ends.
This is a great help for my hectic morning. I need to get one of these.
Love humor in your videos, thank you.
LOL! Should’ve flashed “F*** THE POLICE!” on the screen again when you ignored the warning and ate the silica gel desiccant. ;)
DF, MVG & game sack release analogue pocket reviews all together and watched them all looking forward to the pocket.
The humor in this video makes these edibles worth the money. Fuckin’ dying over here.
damn man I love your sense of humor, you make me laugh out loud more than most comedians I watch! You make being funny look so easy!
I have a crazy idea for analogue pocket - add support for Game & Watch and perhaps even Tiger Electronics games. It will be a novelty but the high DPI screen could allow mimicking a LCD that displays arbitrary pictures.
Joe, you the man. This channel became one of my goto comfort shows
That's an awesome device for people who are passionate about retro handhelds!
Your videos are just so dang good and make me laugh every time. Thanks for another great effort!
love how you match the ads with a Gamesack splashcreen!
Either Joe is posting at an unusual time or my sleep schedule is even more screwed up than I thought!
I think there was a review embargo on these, since a bunch of other channels posted reviews this morning as well.
As the product is for cartridge enthusiasts, one could consider that the dock is meant for them as removing the system from the dock to change actual carts is itself like changing carts. Joe is pretty crafty(must be those desiccant packets) so I wouldn't be surprised if he just reversed the unsubscribe video when he "resubscribed" to My Life in Gaming. Take that! As for the review, it's good to hear that this turned out well, though that's not hugely surprising considering Analogue's track record. Also nice to see all the options and potential settings for the future.
All analogue products receive an "unofficial" firmware that allows them to play roms. It will be no different with this one.
I'm really surprised that with over a year delay, they still have features to add. With analogues track record of abandoning releases for newer projects, this doesn't bode well.
You should write a blog, I think these crowdfunding projects require far greater scrutiny. You write really well too so it's an obvious product :)
What history do they have of abandoning releases? What products have they announced but not delivered on?
@@SuperTrainStationH are you asking me generally or him specifically?
I can name you a fair few that I have been involved with, I have been disappointed with them 100% of the time so far...
They take far too long, cost far too much, and they don't communicate honestly for the most part either. It's not a great experience imho.
@@DailyCorvid I want to hear what went wrong, I'd like details, I'm not just emptily challenging you for the sake of "defending" them, I'm interested in learning.
@@DailyCorvid yeah man like totally spend 4 hrs writing an essay for an internet stranger to satisfy his curiosity!
NICE unexpected gamesack in the Morning 🌄
Game sack on a monday?! Perfect way to start my work hour
Don’t forget the optional PCE/TG16 adapter that they announced at the same time as the Analogue Duo! All the reviews I’ve seen so far have ignored that.
I hadn't heard about an adapter of that for the Pocket. It's certainly not on their product page, at least not when I checked.
@@GameSack Yeah. My guess is that the core is still in development for the Analogue Duo and then it will come to the Pocket. I was shocked when it wasn’t announced along with the rest since Turbo Express seemed such a ripe target for this thing and was relieved when they later mentioned it was coming. Even so, it’s the one that has the biggest question marks… like, could it support CD games with the dock and a USB CD-ROM drive or would they deliberately limit that to the Analogue Duo or Pocket jailbreak?
@@GameSack I just refreshed myself on it. They announced it at $30 and said it will support SGX games. No word on CD-ROM² titles. They said “2021” but I very much doubt that now since they obviously didn’t make it part of the review/press kits and the rest is barely even 2021.
Nice use of the Black Mages and Dracula Battle.
Being able to play older GB and GBA games in 1080p with the dock would fare as a decent upgrade from me still using my old Game Boy Player on my Gamecube, which only looks good on my old CRT.
Who is longing to play handheld games if you don't HAVE to? They sucked. Nostalgia wears off in seconds when you realize how shitty things were.
@@justin43098 who hurt you?
@@poble No one did. Not everyone is sad like you are. Or maybe poor.
@@justin43098 I dunno man, you sound a lot sadder than I am. and sure, I’m poor, but how is that relevant? I’d rather be poor than a bitter person like you lmao
@@justin43098 Wow, I bet you’re lots of fun at parties.
Gamesack, MLiG and That Video Games Show are the perfect shows to relax to.
Cheers Joe!
Great review. This thing is a MUST, and I definitely will be picking up the dock and adapters.
About time you reviewed the Game Wizard. Great look at the Pocket, thanks Joe!
Favorite console reviewer. You’re corny as hell but it’s always good stuff
So glad you ordered one of these, I wanted the full sack experience before I get one myself. Cheers pal!
The more over-the-top your end segments are the better. Reminds me of the Buzz Lightyear commercial that Penn Jillette voiced.
The end skit is not a skit but ANOTHER bonus review.
I do wish you would have reviewed the flavor profile of those delicious looking silica packets....
Joe, I just want to thank you for always adding the titles of the music tracks at the end of your videos. I have discovered some killer tunes because of you - this time it was Thrashard In The Cave, what a damn jam.
Game Sack turns "desiccant" into desi-CAN!
(then becomes Redifer jerky shortly afterward)
Sudden game sack video, gonna be a good day
5 reviews of this turn up at the exact same time? Obviously I'm watching Joe's first.
I'm glad you keep making videos like this! Thank you!
I hope they make another version of this in a horizontal form factor (like the PSP or OG GBA) Never been a fan of the Game Boy form factor.
With so many easy ways to play refined emulators, including flashcarts on original hardware and modern mods for said original hardware, these multi system devices compatible with multiple oldschool carts are a childhood wet dream. Seeing something you would have thought impossible become possible just because someone wanted it so, is always awesome to see.
Love the review! Too many other convenient options out there for me to invest in this ecosystem but I respect it.
Quick turn around man, awesome, thanks for your reviews!
Joe: Tons of good info on the Pocket, quality editing, even a few “jokes.”
My takeaway: Wait, is that a Game Gear version of Gunstar Heroes? Cool.
Exfat is probably fine, the only real difference is it can format things that are above 32 gb
Yeah, you would say that, wouldn't you?
ExFat lacks a layer of data redundancy or something like that. I remember hacked switches having issues with exFat, because the Switch has it's own anti data corruption code, but it's not accessible for homebrew. So fat32 would be fine because of it's built in anti corruption stuff, but exFat would be vulnerable. Might be the same thing going on here, that Analogue didn't code anything to ensure no corruption happens on exFat. Which is fair; you don't need any file bigger than 4gb on a gameboy. Lol
Very cool and a nice early week surprise. The original Game Boy filter looks great.
Two reviews (My Life in Gaming and Game Sack) of an interesting piece of hardware at the same day. Is it christmas already?! Thanks guys!
Embargo
I don't always eat Silica Gel packets, but when i do they're the last thing in my beef jerky bag.
Thanks for getting this out so quick!
Thanks for briefly mentioning the aspect ratio of SMS games. Also thanks for the lulzy toots.
The SMS games have been fixed with the latest firmware update!
Even though I’m not big on handhelds, I still enjoyed this episode because your videos are quality.
My feed is full of Analogue Pocket reviews right now... but this is the one i was looking for. Great video as always.
truly appreciate all your work, Joe.
The resolution is a great thing. I have the RG350M which uses a 640*480 screen, which already allows for absolutely stunning matrix shader / overlay. I can only imagine how good it would look on this device.
It’s like if a Nintendo 3ds didn’t give you a headache.
YA Old Sack! Ya always welcome with your stuff!!! Love you Game Sack's or that one Sack
Why did I watch Gamesack's review vs the other 10 that popped up in my subs? The after credit scene of course!
3:50 omg I can't stop laughing 😂 🤣👍 love those other guys too 💕
Thanks for a great video and a good laugh Joe 💕
I'll be ordering my pocket on the 14th. I'm mostly getting it because I haven't owned a working Game Gear in years but I still have all my old games.
The VR Troopers game wizard.... the handheld we all really needed!
That's like a whole meal of silica gel there with all those adapters! edit: I posted this as they hit the table, before you ate them.
Like RUclips knew what I wanted for Christmas
Somehow this review ended up being one of your funniest videos...
Hell, I want one just to play GBA games on the big screen.
Just like the original console, this device is pricey but matching quality. It also reminds me of Powkiddy handheld unit for a quarter of price. Not for everyone
original being what? This thing plays a bunch of consoles.
Will def get 1 (or 2) for my LSDJ Cartridges ! Really decent price !
I always wondered what those freshness packets tasted like. Um maybe not.
Overall, pretty cool review. Neat to know an alternative exists, plus so many possibilities.
I usually am not one to preoder anything these days. Let me tell ya, though, the Analogue Pocket sounds like it just may be worth it! Your reviews of gaming hardware is second to none, good sir! Hoping I can scoop this handheld up so I can finally see my Game Gear games again! FANTASTIC video!
It's interesting for me to see how glowing this review is after I already watched siegarettes' critical review. It's like you both completely ignore each other's pros/cons (or at least they weren't enough to mitigate the cons/pros to be even worth mentioning).
Ahhh Dracula Battle
nice, seriously thinking of this one. I liked the GBA but hated its compressed and scratchy music. im glad this one fixed it
Love your videos Joe. Great work!
Awesome review.. if I can get one I definitely will..
Lol I’m gonna be thinking about that’s what she said in my boardroom meeting. Lmao dude this was hilarious…I like the new direction!
You know metal Jesus put his review on this out at the same time
Yes... I will be suing him.
@@GameSack I heard he has deep pockets good luck 😂
Love the review! Cant wait to get one!
Nice to see something launch that isn't a buggy mess from the go
I ordered two yesterday one black and one white. I checked out about 4 minutes after the sale went live!
I think I saw my copy of Surf Ninjas for Game Gear recently. Time to dig it out.
Nothing like some Weekday Sack!
Don't eat those!!! 🤣🤣
Love his videos, he's ate up!! 😆😆
They hit a grandslam with this one. Cant wait to get mine.
Great review. I had a couple of good laughs.
2:49 ... I see you are a man of culture !
I saw you whip out that VR Troopers thing at the end and for a second thought it was a Mega Duck. So disappointed it wasn't a Mega Duck.
out of all the videos i've seen today... this has been best.. not from what it was... just what the other guys failed to mention.... but you are the best big guy
I thought that all the adapters we're coming back in stock today along with the Pocket and the other accessories. Does anyone know when the adapters will actually be available for pre-order? I haven't seen any info, I thought today they'd all be available, but just the Game Gear one is.
Why would I want one of these when I could just emulate all those systems and more on my 3DS?
JR, a ## old male presenting to the emergency room with nausea and stomach pains... LOL. Someone will get it. Love the review. I am seriously thinking of getting one. The open preorders makes it enticing.
