    I've been transforming my 1/3 acre in the middle of town into a food forest. I'm 70, so it takes a bit longer. lol When I moved here it was all lawn with a row of 100 year old oaks, mostly, that had once been the property line, across the entire south side. I could find just a pair of bumble bees and not much else. I'm "slightly" north of you (central Minnesota, zone 4a). This year has been strange weather wise and every thing has been shooting up like crazy. I grow just about every fruit that grows this far north, plus the vegetable gardens. It is also a certified wildlife habitat with a lot of wildflowers and wild edibles. I took the free permaculture/food forest course offered by Geoff Lawton and applied it to my zone. I've read some books and have tried to implement what I read, rather successfully. (I also have some tropical plants and trees better fitted for Florida, which go inside when it gets cold.) I mention it because, you can do it anywhere from very far north all the way to the tropics and from large farms to small backyards. People will post how good it is that people are trying to turn deserts into food forests, while missing that it also applies to them. A yard with just a lawn is as bad as a desert.

      Thank you. Your video was also quite inspirational but it made me jealous. I used to live in Puerto Rico and had some of the fruits you mention growing in my yard. Some were quite delicious but I can't bring big trees indoors. Every year I cross my fingers and hope my acerola little tree will get pollinated by some little bees but no such lucky and hand pollinating it hasn't worked well. I can only hope, I did get five once and they tasted great. Nice that you are growing some uncommon trees.

    Great video Pete. I was just driving down the road with my son and I were just driving down the road the other day and we were trying to figure out what has now been planted in the road medians here in Lake Mary Fl. After watching this video, I am pretty certain that it must be perennial peanut. You t looks a lot better then St.. Augustine grass. The carpet of yellow flowers is amazing.

    Hi, i've been following your videos for a while now and i'm aways excited to see when you upload a new one. I am planning to start my own food forest in the caribbean island of ST.lucia and before i do i would really like to visit your farm and have a tour. Also, i would like your input on what you think would be the best resource such as books or courses that would aid me in creating something as abundant as yours in a tropical environment! Tons of fruit!! :) I've already enrolled in a permaculture course but there is always more to learn! Thanks Pete!

      Kazzana thanks! I'm on a waiting list at two different nurseries for improved cultivars. They aren't very easy to find in Florida. Do you know of a source for these?

    • @kazzana9013
      @kazzana9013 7 лет назад

      I am from New Zealand, so pretty much useless to you in regards to plant sources. Fejoa are very common here, but we mis-pronounce really badly, as Fee Jo a.
      Your videos are fantastic, so much appreciated, thank you.

    I just finished binge watching Geoff Lawton's videos. So much info to take in. I'm in the Caribbean and trying to push back into an old cow pasture that has high clay in spots. Alot of gras and thorny Cassi trees. It's slow going ,but started planting out some abiu, ice cream bean , cherimoya, and rollinia trees. Hope it'll look like that some day. Any suggestions on ground cover crops besides sweet potatoes?

    I, the soul, like that abundance you are surrounded by but dear brother soul, do you know that God Shiva, our spiritual Father, has already come into this physical world, in 1936., from Nirvana, the soul world, and He is establishing the new world of paradise on the territory of today's land of India which will become that widely known Maha (Great) Bharat (Atlantis!!!), the golden-aged kingdom of heaven, in the near future. The moment the original, eternal deity religion is about to be established, still about 19 years remains, this old iron-aged world will be completely destroyed - by Americans and their nuclear weapons and by the elements of nature - in the natural calamities. This is the reason why God, the Father says to you too, "My sweet child, consider yourself to be a body-less soul, a star-like point of light and remember Me, the Supreme Father, the Supreme Soul, God Shiva alone, in My eternal form of a star-like point of light and your already accumulated sins and vices will be easily dispelled." That's minimum you should imbibe while you, the immortal, eternal soul, are still in your mortal, perishable body, in the center of the forehead (a third eye!). Kind regards brahmakumaris.org pmtv.in
