It IS the writing...I have seen every decent series ever...The writing in Billions surpasses amazingly well written series like, Mad Men or Black Sails... Breaking Bad is pathetic comparatively. They avoid the Mundane. After watching every show in the series, I kept waiting for a falter, a worn cliche, an obvious usual direction. They wrote it to not be dumbed down. You don't feel pandered to. The women are all amazing too, which really endears the show to you...Nothing sexier than a smart and beautiful woman.
+godbluffvdgg - I have to agree. They wrote the women incredibly well. Even though Lara is slightly trophy wife-ish, you feel a blazing hot intelligence behind the beauty (particularly noting the manuscript episode).
This and breaking bad are my absolute favorites. Very intelligent writing with complex characters which seem to be missing in most other shows or movies

What struck me then -- and what is expressed so well by the characters in "Billions" -- is just how desperate they all seem. Axe, Rhodes, Prince, Taylor, Wags...all desperate and all seemingly unaware that they are as they wreak havoc. That said, Damian Lewis's portrayal of Axe, his acting is just mesmerizing. All the actors are really beyond description...

This was instantly one of my favorite shows.Not only that it's got great songs woven into each episode.It's only been season 3's end for a few months and I'm already binging on the whole series.So much to pay attention to and the character development.This year I really enjoyed the continued character revelation of Taylor Mason.I laugh at the Spok/Borg like portrayal of her character and was really happy about the love she found with Oscar Longstraat in the Echo and the Bunnymen moment.Ultimately I would love to see Axe and Chuck become incredible friends who aggregate their "super" powers to help the world through the USA which other than God ordained national Israel in their day is the greatest nation that's ever existed.
Axelrod's suits have universally bad (too low) collars that sit way down and gap away from the shirt-collar. The suits are also too fashiony- tight and lapels are too narrow. First button is way too high which looks like any RTW suit and makes the wearer look like a valet rather than a billionaire. The suits look like a sophomoric idea of power suit rather than an actual bespoke garment.
