I tell team members when they leave, I wish everyone would stay forever but I support them in whatever they do that they think is best for them and their family. I'm much more interested in them as humans than individual contributors. I'm not perfect though and sometimes get caught up in worrying about less important things.
I had a situation just today and because of it I will leave the job. I was shamed by the manager after I tagged the accountant to reach out to me. I did not get paid for three months and got shamed for asking for help on their part. I was so ready to work hard and show all my creativity, but after this shaming today, I am leaving.
This message is for someone who needs to hear this and will fully understand it... You are not define by your circumstance or your past. It’s not what happened to you that determines your success in life; it is how you deal with those circumstances that determines your success in life. You are strong, you are capable and practice forgiveness (Forgiveness is for you; forgive your parents or anyone whom we have chosen to hurt us, to begin the process of healing and freedom. Remember: Forgiveness is for you to be freed, healed and happy. It’s a RESET BUTTON) and practice gratitude everyday. This will change the course of your life forever. Love you always and I believe in you wholeheartedly no matter what ✨❤️ - Nat
Simon, thank you for sharing this. Well-thought-out! It's a pearl - another one :) Human beings often make decisions based on seemingly "irrational" factors. Committing and staying in many situations - job, relationship, etc., tends to be more based on feelings (the heart) than logical reasoning (the head). And learning to appeal to the heart sincerely is a vital leadership skill. And it is one that organizations tend to expect leaders at all levels to have but rarely teach.
I have been watching all of your videos and listening to all your podcasts. I find your energy so wonderful. Thank you for doing everything you do. It really does make a difference. (I love listening to you speak, also I totally got giddy when I noticed you had a Mandalorian helmet in the background).
Especially interested in the idea of the younger generation looking for a “holistic life” from work. Do you think life events such as getting married or having children changes this perspective and that people then feel pressured when they want a life apart from the company?
You brought up a very large topic that fascinated me, maybe something for a future book or something. The Idea that the younger generation needs A,B,C from their job and the reason why that is? Its a fascinating topic.
My employer told me how disappointed he was when i left for another company. He didnt have the impression of me as a teamleader and also didnt make any aspiration for some kind of mutual agreement except telling me of how much of a bad decision was hiring me. Do ppl really expect to generate a motvating environment like this?
Simon, your videos are amazing! I'm so inspired by the ideas you share. But recently I got myself thinking about automation and all its consequences on the working market for the next decades. Could you please show us your perspective on that? Thanks again man!
Companies have eliminated programs and activities that are deemed ‘unallowable expenses’. These activities no longer exist so that the shareholder make more money. It’s very short sited. Non-work /fun/ real engagement happens during this time. Engagement drives a higher level of emotional attachment to your company and the people you work with.
I just signed up for cyber security ... and I have a engineering background (software and ststem)system. Why is it less popular to do cyber? It is an engineering as well. 😄 I get your point though
I've been loyal to my company but finding out that my company is not loyal to me. new people coming on board are making more than people who have been there four or 5 years in same position.
That issue really need to be discussed actually. It's not uncommon that it happens but the workplace's system needs to be acknowledged with the other employees cause it can leave people confused. Unfortunately loyalty ain't enough in a workplace if you deserve a promotion
Further i'd argue that human skills are intrinsically coupled to hard skills - in other words if we decouple that as a requirement then we might get great workers but they wont stick around long.
Investing in our people is the best investment we could ever make. When our talent leaves us, we experience different problems in our operations and processes. We have to ensure that we’re taking care of our people - doing so is an effective way to take care of our customers as well. Let’s support our people’s growth and development in all ways possible.
I would go a step further - not hard skills and human skills but technical skills and human skills. And guess which one will get automated away first. Human skills are essential.
I have some team members that I can not stop them from leaving although I know from previous experience that they will suffer in new jobs they will quit for joining them, the issue is that they are not accepting any advice even with compensation of money and the new statement they are saying I need to see new challenge although I know this is not the real thing they need to quit although they are learning and practicing and gaining good money even they are growing in their jobs in higher level I do not know who convinced them that 6 jobs in 6 different companies in 2-3 years is a good thing 🤨
Exactly why there is so much movement in health care right now. These hospitals see their employees as disposable, therefore staff is jumping at opportunities to make more money!!
@M nurses are also retiring early and switching careers to exit the health care industry. They've had enough and rightly so. US health care industry is imploding.
@@juju1896 Some of us are just taking easier positions that don't require leadership, i.e. just leave me alone, stay out of my way and let me do my job. That's really bad for the patient though.
@@MNP208 please take care of you first. I have 2 beloved family members who are nurses and have been through absolute hell. One just got a job as a flight nurse where I hope she'll finally experience the respect she has always deserved from her employers. Hugs and gratitude to you.

Ditto. My catch phrase is, I’m sad for me but happy for you.

This video kept me engaged the whole time!

Now that you mentioned it, I would also like to hear about it😄

Definitely not, you made the right choice and they are the losers. Btw where did you go after leaving?

Hi Simon. Please have a look at Cape union mart in south africa with their company culture. VERY VALUABLE

I couldn't listen, I had to admire the Mando helmet in the background.

Is that mandalorian helmet from the actual set? 😍
S/S. Stay is a four letter word-avoid sir ! Better be faded out versus burnt out ? V.
This is the way. :)
You need to teach the Boeing company to really understand leadership and the actual goal of the company.
Money is not the only reason people quit their jobs.
