I love your videos. One minor correction for this one: the lake is spelled Koocanusa (= KOOtenai + CAnada + USA). I had grandparents who lived their lives in Eureka, and it is good to take a trip down memory lane. Eureka sure has changed from the place I remember over 50 years ago, but it is still beautiful!

I'm enjoying the virtual vacation, Uncle Russ . I can imagine one time , after you've finished flying the drone , you'll go to get back into your van and there will be a bear sat in the seat and he turns to you and says " Are we ready to roll " ? Lol.

1st...hope you didn't get caught in the early season snowfall, especially since you mentioned the chilly mornings now. GREAT storyboard shots so we can read them. VERY much appreciated. Just looking at the bridge you'd never know that it's so high above the actual riverbed before it was flooded. Wondering if the lake freezes over in winter. One of the stop reminds me of a rock/stone guard like what you see on Going to the Sun Rd in Glacier. This looks like maybe someone hit the stone part & destroyeda section...maybe a winter accidenton slippery icy snowy road. & they put up a metal guardrail replacement. Running out of words to describe the beautiful country you're taking us through. Putting this part of MT on my bucket list since I've never been down in this area before.

That's one very impressive bridge ! And a whole lot of serious hard rock excavations. Looks like some type of Quartzite. One of the hardest rocks there is. (Metamorphised Sandstone). Can still see the drill hole markings.

Griz vs .Bleack bears--funny! The National Park Rangers are advising hikers in Glacier National Park and other Rocky Mountain parks to be alert for bears and take extra precautions to avoid an encounter. They advise park visitors to wear little bells on their clothes so they make noise when hiking. The bell noise allows bears to hear them coming from a distance and not be startled by a hiker accidentally sneaking up on them. This might cause a bear to charge. Visitors should also carry a pepper spray can just in case a bear is encountered. Spraying the pepper into the air will irritate the bear's sensitive nose and it will run away. It is also a good idea to keep an eye out for fresh bear scat so you have an idea if bears are in the area. People should be able to recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear scat. Black bear droppings are smaller and often contain berries, leaves, and possibly bits of fur. Grizzly bear droppings tend to contain small bells and smell of pepper.
I got out the small book I wrote about our cross country bike ride and checked and sure enough we rode our bikes along this lake. It was 100° that day and the sound carried across the water so that even though we were high above we could hear fishermen talking. Nesting ospreys were feeding their chicks and when we were near the parent would back off as the chicks screamed for their dinner.

Russ, how is the air turbulence buffeting on the RV since air tab installation? And have you noticed if they help keep the spray/dirt off the rear windows?
I’ve hauled RV’s all over the country (for a living) land up into Canada and when I came down into here I fell in love with it and that lake that is hundreds of miles long . I’m going to retire there someday and do nothing but boat and fish. I love it because there are so few people around.

According to the storyboard, Russ, you are correct: most of the recreational sites are on the west side of the reservoir where the border patrol was sitting. And for the tallest bridge in Montana one sure wouldn't know from just looking at it. I would have bet dollars to doughnuts that those pylons only went down 25-30 feet.

its called Koocanusa Lake, not Kookanusa lake, because the name of the lake came from the combining of the three names of the Kootenai River, Canada, and USA, all which it spans, hence the "C" and not the K. but still great video, i have personally been to that spot, high winds also, great for wind sports.

i used to drive truck over that bridge and deliver foodstuffs to an Amish or Hutterite colony (can't remember which) some 20 miles back.
