I really wish there was a way to auto backup your artworks up without having to export them out to the cloud each time ToT I'm constantly forgetting to back things up
Hey! Thanks for the video. It was super helpful! Just one doubt. After I backup a particular file, if I make any changes to any layers etc, should I create a backup again by deleting the old file's backup and creating a new one or does it automatically get updated? Thanks once again.
Thanks so much! I have been looking for options for so long and this all makes the most sense and was so helpful. Why backup doesnt work with these files by now is dumbfounding.
Thanks for watching! 😊 I’m so glad it was helpful. I still wonder why things aren’t automatic by now as well but in the meantime we’ve got to cover ourselves 😅
@@AGFDesignStudio Thankfully I only use mine for movies, notes and drawing, so I’ll just find a way to keep space… I hope. I’d love for procreate to implement an auto file backup for cloud services though, rather than having to save the files manually…

Thank you for the vid! Well done and includes great info. Almost 30 years in to digital art, so I've learned to back everything up often. I didn't see an option to back up onto a external SSD. it would be helpful if and when you update this video. Again thanks!
amazin video thank you!!!! when i use the drag and drop share it turn my files into PSD. is there a way to make them procreate files when i drag and drop to drive?
Hey! This is a really good question. If you go into your Settings on your iPad and scroll down to Procreate, there’s a setting called “Preferred file format”. You can just change that to Procreate to make that the default when you drag and drop. Hope this helps you and thanks for watching the video! 😊
Is there an easy way to simply save your Procreate files (both in native Procreate format and/or psd or png formats) to an EXTERNAL drive THAT IS CONNECTED to the ipad pro???? (4th or 5th Gen)
Great question! When transferring your files from Procreate to iCloud Drive your files will automatically separate and unstack sadly. If you want to keep them together you should create a folder to save that stack specifically to in order to keep them grouped together. Otherwise when you make backups of your entire iPad device, your stacks and files in your gallery will be preserved as they currently are in Procreate. Hopefully this helps but let me know!
Hi, my kids changed my iPad password and now is impossible to gain access to it. I called apple store and they say the only way to get my iPad back is deleting the information. I have a painting that went viral on social media in my procreate app. Is there any way to gain access to my procreate from another devise so I can have my painting and my gallery back?????,
Hi, i lost my procreate art when i accidentally deleted it, and i came to your video! Thank you for all the explanation! By the way, will icloud backup save all the procreate artwork? All in same folder ? Or it saves only the settings, brushes etc ? Thankyou.
Good video. You explained your procress very well. I have been exporting my Procreate files to iCloud Files in Procreate format. I then copy the Procreate Files to my Windows PC. I don't have PS anymore. i used to. I realize I can only open those the
Thanks for this video. Appreciated. Helps alot. Now i can save my 5000+ artworks to cloud. I was worried everytime when click around the DELETE BUTTON haha. You save my day. 🥰🥰.
Is there a way to get back your work after going to the Gallery? I just dropped the iPad and my finger erased the middle of my Major layer and then tapped the gallery button accidentally. I think I may have lost hours of work due to this so if anyone knows any ways to get your file history working or something like that, it would be amazing
Yeah. The idea is to cover your bases as much as possible. So I would save my Procreate files just to be safe to an external drive or your iCloud Drive in addition to making a full backup of your iPad. The backup will be a copy of all the information, apps and files on your old iPad so that you can bring them over to your new iPad once you have it.
Alanna. Really appreciate the options and added clarity. I do have an inquiry about saving/exporting Procreate files. Can't imagine why it took me so long to notice, maybe because I wanted to also create some printables, but when I export my png file which was created on a 8.5x11 canvas, 300dpi, the resolution comes in at 96dpi with reduced sizing. Can you tell me what I'm missing here? Thank ou so much!
Hi Margie! That’s an interesting question and I’m not sure what the issue could be related to since you set your DPI to a high resolution from the start. Can you let me know what application you are using and seeing that the file has a reduced DPI?
@@AGFDesignStudio I may have figured this out on my own! It's not Procreate at all! I've been using Procreate to make digital stickers and importing them into GoodNotes to share with customers. These files, including what was suppose to be full-sized Pngs (or as I thought), were opening at 96dpi in my image editor and file properties info. Guess it's great for digital downloads, not so much for printables. Thanks for reaching out.
Thanks Ian! And wow I can’t believe that didn’t even occur to me. A solution I’ve seen is for you to first save your files to iCloud Drive on your iPad and then to open iCloud on your Mac. From there you should be able to move your files to an external drive. It’s not a direct move from the iPad to an external drive but I think it’s a solid work around. Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with!
@@AGFDesignStudio That’s great Alanna, thank you! I’ve just tried it and it works great. 😀 Simpler than my current direct method! Wish we could just drag Procreate stacks onto a Wi-Fi / or connected hard drive icon in a split screen.
Good question! Yes, you should be saving anything important to iCloud and perform a full backup of your iPad so that your new iPad can have the same settings and information as your current iPad
Good question! In order for your drawings to be backed up to iCloud or another cloud drive service you’ll need to do it for each new drawing you add. The good thing is that you can bulk save by selecting multiple drawings to export and save at a time.
will this preserve the file's metadata and recording? i have to clear out my ipad and hard reset it, and i don't want to lose the time lapses, they're important to my processes :(
Hi Belva! Good question. Yes, as long as you save your work as a Procreate file, that format will save your timelapse information within the file data. You can check out more information here: procreate.art/handbook/procreate/gallery/gallery-file-types/?section

The save file doesnt sync automatically so you’ll have to manually save it again.
Btw you don’t have to do it one by one you can just select all of your art, click share and place it in your files as a Procreate file
Thank you! I’ve been putting off backing up my files for weeks.
