I’m a huge fan of “work smarter, not harder” so when I saw these IKEA bookcases… I knew I could transform them into something amazing. Could I have built them from scratch? Sure… but because the IKEA ones worked for the size I needed, why waste time and the headache of all the measuring/building?🤪

I love the contrast. You often see shiplap or horizontal boards painted white but I love the dark charcoal color you used

This looks nice but I have Billy bookcases and they’re compressed wood that’s easily damaged by small amounts of water.
I wouldn’t want this built into my home.
I used a water/vinegar cleaner on my IKEA Billy bookcase and didn’t wipe it thoroughly. Some tiny spots of water caused big ugly bumps on the shelf.
Don’t risk it. Just use real wood. Billy bookcases aren’t that cheap to begin with anyway.
Yes! It might cost a bit extra but it will last and look better than some overpriced chipboard
Can't you just replace the shelf
they WILL know when that cheap mdf they are made off falls apart in a few years

the shelves are different thicknesses!! the top shelves are thicker then the bottom shelves. this would annoy the duck out of me if I lived here

It's because she added frame work around and on the shelf to make them look nicer, but didn't on the bottom part since she was using doors on them. Not only would no one see but the doors wouldn't close if she added it to them. I'm sure if she ever decided to get rid of the cabinet doors she'd then add it.😂
The billy bookcases are too thinly built and don’t fit in the space. Wrong proportions when paired with the massive fireplace.
So much work just to ruin an extremely classy and elegant room. ☹️
Is your fireplace wood or gas? I have wood and would like to do the same as you. You put 4x4 tile just one row is that same for wood burning fireplace?

Wondering the same thing! I'm working on something similar and the space at the top (with the extender kit) is so tight.
Update if you still need it: She posted a step by step of this project on her Instagram highlights. About halfway through there is a clip of her securing the bookcase to the wall by drilling through the back of the bookcase :)
How much did this cost you for the whole project?

Do you have a method or product for painting shelves so the items you place on the shelves don't stick to the paint? It seems like you have to use a semi gloss or gloss paint and let it cure for like a month or else you risk stuff sticking to it
