Before Faust, there was Dr.Baldhead. A well-respected doctor from China, Baldhead was a pretty normal fellow until a girl died on his operating table. Going mad with regret and grief, Dr. Baldhead became a serial killer, murdering hundreds of people before learning that the girl's death was not his fault. She was killed by a member of the assassin's guild. The purpose of which was to delay Baldhead from getting too good at medicine and creating immortality. Shocked, and realizing how many people he killed, he donned a paper bag and became an unlicensed, wandering magic doctor who vowed to help everyone he could to atone for the many lives he destroyed. Faust was born. Due to reasons unknown, nobody in the series can tell that Faust is Baldhead. He actually used to be a lot more lively and comedic in previous games. The reason he looks so emaciated in this particular entry is due to Faust deciding to use up most of his magical ability in order to save a girl from accidentally destroying herself, along with a town below her. (This girl is Delilah. You'll meet her in Bedman?'s theme.) Anyway, due to the heavy strain this put on poor Faust's psyche and body, we are shown a cryptic scene as Faust's soul leaves his body. Leaving us to wonder what exactly Faust's status is. Is he undead? Was the soul purely for the comedic effect? Nobody knows! At least not now. All we do know is that Faust is still trying (struggling, really) to help people, as shown in his arcade mode storyline. That about covers the main plot points of our good Doctor Faust.
