It’s easy to condemn the Republic for willingly becoming the Empire, especially given a lot of the evil people in the Empire rose in power in the Republic. Now as we know, not every Separatist was some sort of crook or greedy corporate leader. Many joined because they grew tired of the Republic’s corruption. Naboo was a last straw for them. Even Dooku started out as someone who hated this dark side of the Republic. However by the time Dooku started the CIS and kicked off the Clone Wars, he was no longer a noble champion even to his own planet. His charisma hid his new self, a Sith who ensured the Separatist Military was a force of evil to push the Republic to become the Empire. Politicians who tried to stop him were killed while the populace kept cheering him, none the wiser. There’s two sides to the Separatists, the noble side which was just used by the corrupt side. Just imagine if the Separatists knew what their military was doing during the Clone Wars.

At least from the point of view of an outsider. Marva Andor showed us how terrfying it was to live under the Empire and the necessity of Rebellion. She showed that even when the Empire was at it's peak power, and it was unbeatable... you had to fight. You have to Sacrifice for Freedom. Never forget that Freedom isn't Free, and as Would-Be Tyrants seek to claim dominion over nations across the globe, even here in the U.S., we must remember that we all have a stake... in the Republic.

What makes me sad is that A LOT of those really great quotes are from deleted scenes of the prequels. (Padme's speech against the Military Creation Act cut from the beginning of Attack of the Clones, and Mon Mothma's statements during the Seeds of Rebellion scenes cut from Revenge of the Sith.) As a side note, I think it would be cool to include something from Maul's speech from The Phantom Apprentice: "Too late? For what? The Republic to fall? It already has, and you just can't see it. There's no justice, no law, no order, except for the one that will replace it."
The true tragedy of the prequels is how the fall of both the Republic and the Jedi Order was brought about by themselves as much as it was by Palpatine and the Sith.

I never understood the hatred for the prequels. Even as a child, I loved them, especially the scenes involving the Senate. Granted, I didn't understand everything said there, but I could feel power in what was said.
Two days ago there was a communist demonstration in my town. Before it all started I went to ask them about it and told them that the communist were occupying our country just 35 years ago. They told me that if my grandgrandfather heared me right now then he would slap me into the face. After that confrontation I went back into my school and had a lesson. When I got back the demonstration started. I didn't want to believe that the people were listening to them just next to a anti-communist monument.

While I always found it interesting that the clone war only lasted three years, it began to seem even scarier when put into context. In a technological advanced society, such as that in Star Wars, the amount of destruction dealt in three years must have been beyond our comprehension.

You know, Palpatine’s rise to power reminds me alot of Hitler’s. Both created hyper militaristic states, both were Chancellors, both had cruel backstories, both ultimately fell.
I think that's what George Lucas was going for when he created Palpatine. A lot of the combat in star wars is based on WW2 tactics and weapon systems. it's why fighter pilots dogfight each other at distances of no more than 500 kilometers instead of taking each other out from thousands of kilometers away with missiles like modern fighter planes do.
Never thought about it that way, but yeah. The galactic empire was based on nazi germany, and even though there wasn’t a previous war like ww1 in Star Wars as such, unless you count the stark hyperspace war, the republic was still in a state not unlike Germany post ww1, and much like hitler, there were plenty of people who saw what was happening, hoped it would be beneficial in the end, and by the time they tried anything, they were completely toothless.
Palestine and the Empire are closely related to real world fascism. Hitler’s rise to power isn’t very unique, unfortunately. It’s all too easy for people to get caught up in nationalism and tribalism

Dude this edit is so good - it’s obvious how much work went into it just in the amount of content had to be gathered alone. Just this one part of the timeline could have so many of its own movies, series, etc. So many stories, especially in the ROTS-Andor years.

Dude this edit is so good - it’s obvious how much work went into it just in the amount of content had to be gathered alone. Just this one part of the timeline could have so many of its own movies, series, etc. So many stories, especially in the ROTS-Andor years.
