📄 Sonic R is a 1997 racing video game developed by Traveller's Tales and Sonic Team for the Sega Saturn. It is the third racing game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, and the first to feature 3D computer graphics.

Fun fact that the PS2 and GameCube version of Sonic R is the original PC port the game. But the GameCube seems like the best port by sound and visual. The fan made PC port of Sonic R looks like it's unfinished...

That fan made version... Yikes. I mean it looks visually striking, but all the charm is just gone. It's too sterile and perfect looking. The imperfections are part of what made Sonic R so memorable, but this just looks like one of those poor Unreal demos you see of N64 games that never look quite right.

I know right? People always praise those. I can appreciate the effort, but they absolutely lack cohesion and proper art direction. They will never look better than the originals that way. They’re sterile.
I think it’s the lack of those little (albeit loud af) step sound effects that makes it feel kind of empty in comparisson.
Sonic R got an official PC port though.
I have it on disc for win95/98, tricky part is obtaining a win95/98 pc to run it on

I don't have Sonic R Win95 , but it DOES let me rock my Panzer Dragoon like I'm fifteen again.

While the Sonic Gems Collection version of Sonic R does offer more features, even in the visuals like the weather effects.
I got to give it to the Saturn original, one of the reasons why is because like SA1 & 2 on Dreamcast it has better lighting of all things and so on.
I still have a real high touch and respect for Traveller's Tales, especially for making this racer with Sonic Team.

I genuinely think that actually looks better than the versions without (Unless if you count the remastered. It gives a real sense of depth in the level, it’s great

Sega Saturn had a automatic Helen Keller mode with a button that turns the mode even further called the sound button.

man great video but there is a low point, the audios aren't equalized, you could use a "normalize tool" to put them in the same volume level, pc audio is almost inaudible.

The pc port looks great, but feels super unpolished.. I prefer the original and the PS2 and GameCube remasters

You do know there's an actual PC version right?
That's literally why he put "GameCube" and not "PC" so people wouldn't get the remastered and the original port confused.
The Roblox version has a DIFFREND menu,better quality,3 costum characters.while u don't need chaos emeralds to unlock radiant diamond.ot also has a costum map that got it's own music.and also skins
The Gamecube version is the same version than the Playstation 2 version but those versions are available in Sonic Gems Collection and the fan made version is not the only one version for PC, in 1998 Sega released Sonic R for PC and later in 2019 was released Sonic R Updater for play Sonic R in modern computers.
Fan remake is really awful. Saturn ver is still a masterpiece and one of the best looking 32 bit game ever made

No joke, the backgrounds look way better on Saturn. Go figure...
4: Fan remake. the fan remake looks cool but it doesn't look like the characters control like a car.
3. Ps2/PC. its a pretty good version and the character images are higher quality and the models are higher poly but the framerate is worse.
2: Gamecube/PC. its the same as the ps2 and pc versions except its a higher framerate.
1: Sega Saturn: although this one has some lower poly models worse looking character images this one has better lighting and shows how impressive this game was back in 1997. Its wasn't as impressive when it was ported to pc, gamecube and ps2.

The Saturn wins here as it's a fifth gen console. The PS2 and GameCube were sixth gen. It really shows how good the Saturn was.

I like the fourth one because it reminds me of that Sonic.exe game but for the 3 ones why is the first one on Sega Saturn and on the and the third one on the GameCube because I never play one of those before but obviously I kind of I kind of want to go with the fourth one it's a bit of peaceful but two peaceful and the rings are too loud

The tech demo fan made game using unreal engine and tool kits is very nice tho, sure looks good enough, the physics look awfully WSAD key tho, but it works for sonic bc he should have mega control of himself
