This game gets so much crap, but I love it so much honestly. Like I know the soundtrack is kinda cheesy, but the songs are ridiculously catchy! I haven't played this in years, and I STILL remember all of the lyrics to Can You Feel The Sunshine.
I think most of the crap it gets comes from people who don't get that its controls are programmed like a racing game rather than like a platformer. Going forward is _supposed_ to be a separate button!
It's a Sonic-themed racing game made by 90s Sega. If any game had all three of those things and still had a bad soundtrack, we would be living in the single most cursed timeline.
This was one of my first games growing up. I was maybe four years old? My grandma had the Saturn instead of the PlayStation. Thinking back on it now I’m filled with nostalgia and regret. I’m not happy now at 24. I know I’m still young but if I could rewind time twenty years and re do everything. I’d do it in a heartbeat.

I ve played this game a thousand times when I was in preschool, I was just running around, exploring the maps,bumping the cones, diving…. It was really fun.

Knuckles is OP in this game. If you pick Amy or Eggman and let the CPU characters win, Knuckles will always finish the race in 1st (with Sonic in 2nd and Tails in 3rd)
I actually like the idea of having the characters run on foot, instead of using cars like any other standard racing game. running is sonic’s main thing after all!

I remember back in 2002, I got this game & sonic 3D Blast in a 2 games for 1 price for the computer. I played the shit outta this game dawg! but on the PC verison, they didn't have music for this game. the handling & the graphics on this game was awful but that didn't stop me from playing it religiously! I stayed playing as robot sonic or super sonic. so many memories!!!
probably like Sonic Adventure 2 graphics. DC games always are graphically crisp and clean (and has so many games at 60fps!). SA2 still looks really gorgeous imo (480p60fps and awesome, but not perfect, gameplay)

Sonic R's OST is so nice and great. It's what saves the game (other than the idea of non conventional tracks, which isn't really well executed, but still better than some other modern game) Also the PC version had online multiplayer
Its a shame a proper 3D Sonic game was never made for the Saturn. I love the models and art design for this game. If they fine tuned the controls this could've made as a great starting base for a 3D Sonic platformer.

Some of the best graphics I have seen on the Saturn. Almost like Dreamcast graphics. Regardless of sales. Sonic Adventure would have been awesome too on the Saturn. As well as Virtura FIghter 3 and Shemue.
Sega should release this game on steam and give it extra features such as the fighers crew being playable characters. Adding the fighters stages as racing stages, maybe green hill and ice cap as well, add some new gamemodes and then let the Modding community do the rest of the work
I was expecting to see the races against the special characters like Metal Sonic, this is what you get when you finish a race with the five coins in each stage.

I always unlock Super Sonic then the other characters to spice things up. Also this guy didn't even go through all the shortcuts yet.
when I was 5 I used to play this game a lot on my parents PC that nowadays couldn't even run terraria xd Time flies by and I'm still stuck on this videos full of memories of times when I was just having fun. This song also make me cry
I think with some small tweaks to the physics and steering mechanics this would actually be a great game. It would also benefit from more tracks - ideally the ‘zones’ would be larger and include multiple courses.
It is a shame that they never made a sequel. With a system like the Dreamcast or a team with a better understanding of the Saturns architecture, this could of been really good.

This game has some of the best 5th gen graphics also this couldn't be ported to the PS1 because of the effects and the game engine designed for the stronger Saturn hardware. But i can't ignore the clip in and some pop-in but was very common during that era.

I have to say this: it seems near-impossible in this game to avoid hitting the walls.
Especially since the camera can go through the walls and that can be irritating when trying to focus in the character while racing. :)
