  • In this video, I'll show you how to get perfect inlays using a router. This simple method allows you to do all kinds of woodworking inlays. Using a router and this kit, you can cut pretty much any shape of inlay you can dream up, not just bow ties. We happened to use it to get perfect bow ties using a router, but you can invent other shapes also.

    What a great idea to use clear acrylic!

      I really liked how you could see through the template to make sure you were putting your inlay in exactly the right spot.

    That tabletop turned out fantastic! I may have to try and make an acrylic template

      I want to make some and get this kit too. I think it could be done without a plunge router but that sure makes it easier.

    Great video and project Bruce! Bow ties have always intimidated me, but this actually makes me feel like I may be able to do some! Very cool!

      Thanks so much, Ethan! I'm glad I was able to break it down for you a little bit. You can totally do them!

    Very cool how-to on cutting and inlaying those bows. Man, I need to go with the bushing technique for cutting out pickup and neck pockets in bass bodies. That looks like a cleaner way to do it without tearing out around the edge of the pockets. *added to Amazon wishlist* lol Nice work Bruce!

    Just use a bigger spiral upcut to hog out the rest.

    While you can use router based inlays for things like butterflies, as shown in this video, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. The brass inlay kit converts your plunge router into a handheld CNC machine allowing you to make exacting and precise cuts! Take a look at my avatar for a small sample of what you can do with an EZInlays router template kit.
    If you want to try a template kit out let me know and I'll hook ya up!

    Why didn't you just route out the entire bowtie when you make the initial cut?

    • @BruceAUlrich
      @BruceAUlrich  4 года назад

      The bit is quite small in this kit and it would take a lot longer than removing the bulk of the material quickly with a chisel.

    • @BiP00
      @BiP00 4 года назад

      @@BruceAUlrich I have 2 questions regarding this:
      1- If I change the bit to, say a 1/4" or 1/2", could it be removed cleaner and in a more even fashion than a hammer and a chisel?
      2- Could I use this same system to apply it to a mortise and tenon for joinery? Like if I have a slab that I want to join to a wooden base and wanted to make the joint really tight, but use it the other way around, like to to make the tenon on the slab, remove all the excess on a router sled and the mortise on the wooden base? (Sounds like a great deal of work, but aiming towards a close to perfect fit and look seems like it's worth the fuzz)
