I'm amazed nobody stopped to see how you were doing. I can guarantee you there are many of us out there who definitely would have stopped and helped or hung around to make sure everything was okay. My husband (who could be a mechanic in another life) would have seen it as a chance to have a good old yarn, as well as helping out!
Nothing adds more fun to a trip than a blown tire! Happened to me last year on my fifth wheel, I upgraded to ten ply and run 80psi on all six trailer tires.
Wow thanks for sharing a other fantastic video Lil and Jake. The secenary looks great. You two don’t have much luck hey you can not blame each other it’s just part of travelling. See all of those truckers flying down the highway unfortunately you don’t feel you have a blowout until the trailer or in your case you’re van is starting to drift around. One advice I can give you is stop so many kilometres and just go around and check your tyres it might save a blowout next time in future. All ways looking for next weekend adventure
Sorry I missed replying to two of your comments until now Jeremy!! 🥰 you’re absolutely right. Sometimes it’s no one’s fault!! Just unlucky. Yeah, we are lucky we now have a TPMS so we’re trying it out a bit and so far loving it! Fingers crossed no more blow outs. 😂
You guys!!!! Love it, keeping it real. You don't need to do the set up takes (opening things, turning keys, etc.) just be yourselves, it's so enchanting and entertaining. Jake owned that jumper - be loud live proud! Keep them coming guys, great video. Cheers Marg ... and Steve.
Oh thanks so kind of you, we try to be aesthetic but we have a lot of work to do. 😂 All for a bit of fun! Thanks so much for watching and the support. 😍
Oh no poor lil you were so upset ❤ don't give up mistakes happen, don't give up driving sister! Xo Jake trying so hard to keep his cool 😰 At least you're both ok guys x
TPMS on our off road Hybrid. Works a treat. I worked in Normanton in the early 1990’s and there were actual photographs of that crocodile. There was also a 19 foot croc near the weir with some of his tail missing.
Yeah, you’re definitely right! Crazy, we really couldn’t believe how big it was, apparently the pics got lost in a flood!! Such a mind boggle with how big they can get! 🐊
Great ep. We had a broken swing arm bush bolt no one waved or stopped to help out either. Fixed it with Grunt straps and good luck. Lasted all 2000+ kms till we got home.
An easy way to get out of a soft sand bog, without putting stress on the drive-train is to use a Hi-Lift Jack with a wheel adaptor. Lift the wheel/s out of the hole/s, back fill the hole/s and place a max track under it. Carry a spreader plate for the Hi-Lift to prevent it sinking. This is especially good in soft sand that just backfills as soon as you shovel it. You have to unpack and pack the Hi-Lift, but you don't get sweaty digging. This also works well in deep ruts, when you're hung up on the chassis.
Thanks so much Lynn!! 😍 Jake’s birthday today and not going so well as a bushing broke on our suspension and we only realised about 50m in. Todays been a bush mechanic job, hopefully we can get it sorted and back on the road tomorrow. 🤞🏼
@@lilandjake oh no:(:(. Hope Jake has a happy birthday by the time it’s over. Certainly a unique way to spend the day. Will be memorable for sure. As long as you get to the tip and back to your van in one piece 🤞🤞
Ohhhh epic!! That’s for that. Seems to be a common issue on the cheap ones as we did it with the last one too. Lucky it’s on the other end we don’t have to plug in! 😍
Hey Ryan! Had it done at 40k so 40k ago, I always have it in sports mode so that's probably why it's revving harder than usual, hopefully service the gearbox again if we get back to tassie, thanks for the comment!
Had that happen a few years ago. Tire grabbed the axle when it blew. Realized straight away but by the time I could stop, the wheel was ground flat on one side coz it couldn’t rotate. That’s when I found out that caravan places don’t carry spare rims. Scary until we could replace it as we only had one spare.
Oh I’m relieved I’m not the only one this has happened to but also, how scary is it can be hey. Lucky you made it with just the one spare! 😅 we’ve still got two thankfully but will definitely be getting some more in cairns or there abouts! 🙏🏼

Honestly guys install some pressure monitors, they cost nothing and could save the van/car and lives, just do it, piece of mind🤘🤘 ah lol you just mentioned the tyre monitor 🤣 don’t worry about people driving by, all part of the adventure
Hey guys re. Getting bogged. Unsure if you're aware with our ranger having ETC and BTC, u you need press and hold the traction button for 5secs and watch tc dash flash that indicates both etc and btc is off allows all 4 wheels to drive. I learnt the hard way towing through river sand
Have done plenty of outback travel and stopped to help people. If someone needs help it is also partly on them to wave you down. There wouldn't be many people that wouldn't stop for that. I'll often slow down and wait for a signal such as that. Similarly, it is also ok to wave people on if you don't need help. Two way communication helps.
We have the Oricom tpms and it is OK, but the connection between our camper trailer sensors and the head unit always drops out at high speeds. Low speeds it's fine. Very annoying. Oricom basically said I have to get the extender which adds 100 bucks to the price. Distance from dash to camper tyres is under 8m but apparently I must have too much stuff in my canopy interfering... It also has a really annoying dimming feature and can't be viewed with polarised sunnies. So while I recommend a TPMS, and ours has detected a slow leak on the car, I don't know if I can recommend Oricom. It has shat me to tears this whole trip.
Cheers for the info Andrew! It's always good to hear reviews, we're looking into the icheck ones, do you reckon it's the aluminium in the canopy that stops it reading?
@@lilandjake it's a fibreglass canopy! Lol. Oricom think it could be because I have too much stuff in the back. Come on, that's ridiculous. Just bought the extender though so will see if that helps.
@@lilandjake Yep. Only reason I won’t is if it’s on a dangerous spot in the road. It’s not hard to pull up quickly and ask “you know you can’t park there….but are you alright?!”
Good to see normal programming has been resumed. 😂😂😂 At least your towing setup is stable enough to handle a flat and no one was hurt. 👍 These minor breakages are not disasters, they are all part of the experience that add to the stories you can tell the grand kids 😁😁😁 I laughed out loud when you told the story of moving the van with Lil in it 🤣 I suppose it will be to be continued next week to see if you survive Jake?😉🤞 About the Kimberly camper, nice bit of kit but not sure on the exterior styling it was a bit out of our price range when we were looking so we went with Alpine Campers instead.
You’re absolutely right, glad it wasn’t any worse!! 🙏🏼 all part of the adventure! Gosh, I was so scared in the van, I was like wtf is happening!! 😂😂😂 lucky he survived, just by a thread. 😅 as for the camper, you’re absolutely right! Epic set up but unsure about the aesthetic. 😂
Thanks so much Greg!! It’s good to be back! We did actually, but I think we will save it for next time. We were desperate just to get to QLD to come up the Cape! 👌🏼
Great ep. I'm glad you took ya blown tyre with you, I did wonder if you would or thought like many others that it's ok to leave on the side of the road 👍🏼👍🏼🍻
Oh you guys, you can't catch a break. Luckily you could change the tyre out. Jake was very calm throughout the ordeal. I felt for you Lil. Such a disappointment no one stopped though 😕 looking forward to your Cape York adventure 😊
Hey Guys have you had your set up weighted QLD are hot on weighting big fines apply .In regards to rear number plate read the VSB1 information document it has all the ADR rules cheers
Yea mate, had it weighed before the trip and since dropped alot of weight, eg 2 pushbikes, agm batteries and a heap of stuff we didn't need, we might do a weight video soon though to put all the worriers at ease! Thanks for the concern though. It's nice to know people are looking out for others still! ❤️
Back in oz and back to old tricks!! I love it😂😂😂 Hopefully you beat the rain to the Cape!! But looking forward to your adventure🤩 Jardine River looks splendid👌🏻 There’s never a dull moment with you two😜🍺
Are you talking about the Kangen water filter systems that cost a fortune, its been going around a few years now with social media people classing it as affiliate marketing. I drank water straight from the old green and black garden hose for years and nothing wrong with me 😂😂😂👍
so how many kms did you guys drive on 15psi before jake realized he forgot to pump the tyres back up? haha at least he has learnt to let them down when driving in the sand now so you guys will be getting bogged alot less, you guys will be learning so much on this trip alot of new skills and alot about each other, loving the videos i watched a heap of different ones and love the journey so far keep up the great work!
Well that episode was full of less than desirable things happening!! Never know what I’ll see when I tune into your videos 😂. Pippa is very cute and already a good little RUclipsr ❤️. And YES to your last message on this episode. I’m so surprised no one stopped ☹️
are you guys stopping in Cairns? if so would it be possible to have a chat and look at the camper, we dont have any dealers of hybrid vans here and have narrowed it done to Bluetong, Emu and starvision. Would be great to get some honest opinion. Another good vid glad you like FNQ
And we're back to the normal (Bogged) programming 🤣 Starting a Saturday with a Lil and Jake episode and breakfast, that's a great start. Really happy with the way you guys handled the blowout, especially Jake. People can be too self-absorbed sometimes and I guess that's what happened, but my man Jake, knew how to handle things so no foul there I reckon 😆But seriously, glad you guys are okay and the blowout didn't cause any major issues. However, Pippa was the highlight for this vid🤣 kids are absolutely hilarious. WRT the Kimberley campers', It looks like someone started a mini-bus build from the back and gave up very close to the front, so they just hammered it shut.
Depending on which Maxxis they are only rated to 1500kg your van would be approx 2500 so you would be close to max. And depending on the 16 inch steel rim they are also rated to approx 1500kg. Your GVM will also be close if not over with the tiny. Sorry to be a party pooper.
Cheers mate, maxxis 285 75 16 are rated to 1700kgs rims on the van are new dynamic steel wheels so not original rims, also tinny is a custom build only weighing 52kgs with a custom rack that weighs about 7kgs. Yes we are close to gvm with ball weight but still have about 5-600kgs up our sleeve on gcm. Hope this helps you sleep better!
Wow surprising no one stopped for you. We had a puncture in the north of WA and had 5 cars stop and ask if we were okay in the space of 40 mins. We must not have known what we were doing whereas you guys obviously did? 🤣 Our motto is if its not fun... its funny! Great episode guys 😁
Yeah, we thought that too. Especially being a pretty rural road! Lucky Jake knows what he’s doing, you’re right, maybe everyone just knew! 😂 Also, absolutely love this Moto!! New fave!! 😂😂😂
Bad luck with the tyre shredding, poor form with no one stopping to check on you. Are your tyre sizes 285×75x16. Love the steel rims are vehicle and van same size?
punctures and blowouts are just a normal part of outback touring so everyone supposes you should be able to fix it easily and no one stops... especially on well trafficked roads.
Jacob you are a champ, so patient and calm. I couldn't do it trust me. Its just a buggered tyre not the end of the world 😅 Your right about the pyramid schemes to Jacob, i thought people worked out that was bs years ago 😢
He is the bomb.com, the best guy on the planet!! 🥰 you’re absolutely right, sometimes shit just hits the fan! Hahahah, I think @rockbiterhd could be onto something here. 😂
HA HA It only just happened, sorry learner tower it takes a few kilometers to get to that condition but do not be upset that you did not feel the difference the next time a tire goes down on you you will be far more aware.
@@lilandjake Couple reasons. It’s unusual to blow two tyres on the same side at the same time, so you maintain stability, and the still inflated tyre helps carry the weight so you don’t shred the tyre like happened to yours. You were very close to that tyre catching on fire & rubber fires are basically impossible to extinguish even with a dry powder extinguisher. You see the molten rubber gets above self ignition temp, and the dry powder just suffocated the fire from oxygen, but the moment the powder settles the rubber gets more air and re-ignites. So without copious water & a pump & hose to deliver it, you cant cool the molten rubber below re-ignition temp by flooding it. A molten tyre fire will ignite your van above it. It’s worse with a fibreglass boat on a trailer above a molten tyre fire. If you blow a tyre on a tandem axle trailer & you don’t happen to have a spare (let’s say you’ve already blown one, and replaced it, so you have no spare remaining) - in a pinch you can Jack it up, remove the blown tyre & rim, ratchet strap the axle up to the chassis above so it can’t drop onto the road below & limp into the next town on 3 wheels to get new tyres & sort out the problem. Your single axle tyre blew on the passenger (left) side, which was “fortunate” because the drag pulls you to the left off the road where you need to be to change it. However had it been on the right hand (drivers) side, it could have pulled you across the centre line into the path of oncoming traffic for a head on collision - killing your selves & kids and possibly those in the vehicle going the other way. Tandem axle vans make so much more sense from a safety & redundancy point of view & when you hit soft sand you have twice the floatation with 4 wheels than you do with two to reduce the likelihood of getting bogged. The risk of tail wagging the dog (the death wobble) is reduced in tandem axle trailers, they reduce pitch & yaw better than single axles. I could go on but does anyone really care?🤷♂️ So why are caravans sold with single axles? It’s cheaper to make therefore more profit for the manufacturer, but it’s certainly not safer or better. Also it’s lighter weight meaning you get more load carrying capacity in the van before reaching GVM and lighter is also better fuel economy when towing. If you consider the safety & inconvenience risks , you wouldn’t own a single axle caravan. I know I would never buy one. 👍
I see you took the easy way to QLD you should have gone through Roper Bar then Jake could have used his bogging skills every couple of KMs but at least he bogged once that was the blow out from hell Lil and yes it was your fault and there will be plenty of more to come great episode guys cheers legends ☺️
oh, well, that story with the crocodile is true; being killed with a single shot in July 1957 by polish immigrant Krystina Pawlowski on the bank of the Norman river.
Disgusting that no one stopped to check on you. It was an unwritten rule to stop and check on anyone stopped on an outback road. Get yourself a TPMS, their cheap and will pay for itself the first time you get a leak.
That’s what we though, but maybe not so much?? We were pretty rural too! Lucky Jake knows what he’s doing! 😅 As for the TPMS, we ABSOLUTELY need to look into getting one of these. 👌🏼 Thanks so much Wayne! 😍
Hey How'd you get back from Bali and all the way from WA to QLD in 7 days!!!? Lil, you both have your hats on inside a car again. How do you do that?!? Don't you hats hit the head rests and annoy you? I don't understand... ANYHOO, great episode again today. I can tell you Lil, it wouldn't have taken much time at 100kph to destroy that tire, so let it go. Cudos to you both for taking your rubbish with you. WHo's kids? They were great. Are you guys planning to have any while you're on the road...? Think of the fun (X3) Jake...

We absolutely love hanging out with them, so lucky so have met so many amazing people on the road!!! Also no kids for us for a while I don’t reckon! 😂
@@lilandjake Thanks for the reply. I apologise if I'm a bit critical each week. I just don't understand hats...I'm not a hat person. They squeeze my head (even loose ones) and that's not comfortable. 👍to no kids on the road. Do you watch TIAV, Trip In A Van? They show how it's really done with kids. Cheers.
come on mate "you didnt expect her to know" - that can happen to anyone and how come you couldnt feel it in the passenger seat either - give her a break! :)
Matey going buy that being a truck driver, it was not a puncture. I'd say that the side wall just gave way and it exploded given the tread was in tacked. As we say living out bush Lil, " shit happens" so it was in no way your fault. Just a tip, ALWAYS , ALWAYS Torque up your wheel nuts instead of relying on a rattle gun. Its a big NO NO. And for your information yes its a model of the croc that Krystina Pawlowski shot back in the day that I that i've met living there in years gone buy when she was alive. Sitting down under a Tree on the banks of the Norman River in Normanton she and her husband spoke to me. She would shoot them back in the day when it was allowed as she was a better shot than her Husband. And the words from her mouth when she was alive is , "Steve, I shot way bigger ones than that but they sunk under the water and we couldn't retrieve them" Its a true storey. By her book and read it. Legends, do yourself a favour and purchase an ARB Dual Compressor with a tank. You can get them in a travel case or can fit the out of the case to your vehicle. The best compressor on the market that will never let you down. Spoil yourselves for a requirement travelling remote that is no doubt a necessity guys.

Great ep. I'm glad you took ya blown tyre with you, I did wonder if you would or thought like many others that it's ok to leave on the side of the road 👍🏼👍🏼🍻
Yeah, such a shame isn’t it! Always have to think about the environment. Thanks so much for watching! 😍
Your tire explodes because the pressure was too low and you were driving too fast.
Oh you guys, you can't catch a break. Luckily you could change the tyre out. Jake was very calm throughout the ordeal. I felt for you Lil. Such a disappointment no one stopped though 😕 looking forward to your Cape York adventure 😊
I know we just don't seem to be having any luck lately! Thanks so much for your kind words, we're looking forward to showing them to you! ❤️
I love it😂😂😂
Hopefully you beat the rain to the Cape!! But looking forward to your adventure🤩
Jardine River looks splendid👌🏻
There’s never a dull moment with you two😜🍺
Yiew!!! Sorry I missed your comment, but totally, nothing better than travelling our backyard! No rain on the Cape thank goodness! 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
@@lilandjake thank gosh there was no rain🤩🍺 no need to be sorry😜you’re a busy bee🐝
Welcome to Queensland.
Absolutely loving it so far!!! 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Are you talking about the Kangen water filter systems that cost a fortune, its been going around a few years now with social media people classing it as affiliate marketing. I drank water straight from the old green and black garden hose for years and nothing wrong with me 😂😂😂👍
That was one hell of a blow out lol.
You’re bloody right Sentinel!! 😂😂😂 doesn’t get much bigger than that other than if there were sparks flying. 😅
Not your fault hubby shredded a tyre in 30secs 10metres easy when they go they go
Don't they ever! But yep your right, nobody's at fault! ❤️
Hey Lil I was feeling ya with the tyre blow out, it would only happen to us girl's 😢 and then Jake classic bogging one again hehehe. You guys lol 😅😅😅
I know!!! 😢 We are just unlucky aren’t we, nothing we could have done to save it! 😉 Lol, he loves it! 😂
so how many kms did you guys drive on 15psi before jake realized he forgot to pump the tyres back up? haha at least he has learnt to let them down when driving in the sand now so you guys will be getting bogged alot less, you guys will be learning so much on this trip alot of new skills and alot about each other, loving the videos i watched a heap of different ones and love the journey so far keep up the great work!
The flat tyre on the left hand side is the responsibility of the person sitting on the left side of the car, which in this case is Jake. :)
Lil don't stress about tyre blow outs it happens to everyone love get back behind the wheel!
Thanks so much John! Lucky we all ended up safe and learning from our mistakes! 🤩
Love you utube content your are movie stars
At the end, you've added text to say no one stopped to ask if you "where" ok 🤔
Loving the videos guys! What's it like living in a hybrid? Too cramped? We are setting off in Jan 2024 full time in our Hybrid. ✌️ 😊
Love it, wouldn't go any bigger, hopefully see you around the tracks!
Wow surprising no one stopped for you. We had a puncture in the north of WA and had 5 cars stop and ask if we were okay in the space of 40 mins. We must not have known what we were doing whereas you guys obviously did? 🤣
Our motto is if its not fun... its funny! Great episode guys 😁
Yeah, we thought that too. Especially being a pretty rural road! Lucky Jake knows what he’s doing, you’re right, maybe everyone just knew! 😂
Also, absolutely love this Moto!! New fave!! 😂😂😂
@@lilandjake That was my thought, as they drove past they saw Jake and thought Yep, this bloke has it all under control 😊
Nothing a tyre plug wouldn’t fix 😉😁
That’s what I was telling him! Still good as gold. 😂😂😂
@@lilandjake 😂😂😂😂
Bad luck with the tyre shredding, poor form with no one stopping to check on you. Are your tyre sizes 285×75x16. Love the steel rims are vehicle and van same size?
It does look cool but both the rims and tyres would be rated at approx 1500kg each and their van would be approx 2500kg.
Hey mate, yea they are, and tyres are rated to 1700kg, plenty enough for 2.4 ton, steel wheels are dynamics so rated to alot more.
And yea vehicle and van the same with the same offset so interchangeable
punctures and blowouts are just a normal part of outback touring so everyone supposes you should be able to fix it easily and no one stops... especially on well trafficked roads.
Jack up van using rock slider ? 🤔
Worked a bloody treat! Gotta do what you gotta do! 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Jacob you are a champ, so patient and calm. I couldn't do it trust me. Its just a buggered tyre not the end of the world 😅 Your right about the pyramid schemes to Jacob, i thought people worked out that was bs years ago 😢
Wouldn’t have a orange motorbike ?
😂😂😂
He is the bomb.com, the best guy on the planet!! 🥰 you’re absolutely right, sometimes shit just hits the fan! Hahahah, I think @rockbiterhd could be onto something here. 😂
@@rockbiterhd 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍
So sad no one stopped its not the Aussie way😂
That’s what we thought!! 😅 Lucky Jake is clever and generally knows what he’s doing. 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
HA HA It only just happened, sorry learner tower it takes a few kilometers to get to that condition but do not be upset that you did not feel the difference the next time a tire goes down on you you will be far more aware.
Jumper is cool. Kimberly caravan not so.
😂😂😂
Hey guys , ant believe no one stopped to help. Water filters… what’s the story we had looked at this program tell me more ☺️
Just digging himself deeper spinning the wheels ..
Always gives it a good crack before we get the maxtrax off! 😂
its against the law to not stop on outback roads i always stop
This right here is why you buy tandem axle caravans, not single axle. 🙄
Any yes a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System might have altered you earlier.
Whys that Ian? Does having another axle stop you from getting punctures? 🤔
I could go on but does anyone really care?🤷♂️
So why are caravans sold with single axles?
It’s cheaper to make therefore more profit for the manufacturer, but it’s certainly not safer or better.
Also it’s lighter weight meaning you get more load carrying capacity in the van before reaching GVM and lighter is also better fuel economy when towing.
If you consider the safety & inconvenience risks , you wouldn’t own a single axle caravan.
I know I would never buy one. 👍
👍
Maxxis meant to be the best? That's the problem right there
I see you took the easy way to QLD you should have gone through Roper Bar then Jake could have used his bogging skills every couple of KMs but at least he bogged once that was the blow out from hell Lil and yes it was your fault and there will be plenty of more to come great episode guys cheers legends ☺️
Haha the KK’s are the ugliest campers going round town! 😂
Literally!! 😂😂😂 Very practical, far less aesthetic!
oh, well, that story with the crocodile is true; being killed with a single shot in July 1957 by polish immigrant Krystina Pawlowski on the bank of the Norman river.
Isn’t it insane!! Absolutely blew our minds!! 🤯
Disgusting that no one stopped to check on you. It was an unwritten rule to stop and check on anyone stopped on an outback road. Get yourself a TPMS, their cheap and will pay for itself the first time you get a leak.
I find that extraordinary. Travellers always slow down and stop. Always!
They were probably too busy recording for their channel
@@effkay3691 obviously not all travellers
That’s what we though, but maybe not so much?? We were pretty rural too! Lucky Jake knows what he’s doing! 😅 As for the TPMS, we ABSOLUTELY need to look into getting one of these. 👌🏼 Thanks so much Wayne! 😍
You guy's are funnier than Laurel and Hardy
If only I knew who they were!! 😂 But I’ll take it as a compliment.
We are speedy!! 😂 Nah, we didn’t film for a little bit while we were making our way East! Gotta keep the head warm! 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
Thanks so much for watching as always!! We appreciate it so much. 😍 You’re absolutely right, especially going the speed we were!
The kids are the best!!
Cheers.
#iftheycantseeittheycantcatchyou 😂😉🤔
Hahaha, it's a thing!
In all fairness if you guys weren’t ok you would wave someone down, I wouldn’t stop if you were just standing there I’d assume you were all good 😊
Can't trust them behind the wheel. HGAC
come on mate "you didnt expect her to know" - that can happen to anyone and how come you couldnt feel it in the passenger seat either - give her a break! :)
🫶🏼
Love your vids and your normalness (as fellow Tasmanians) but would love them even more if you didn't blaspheme Jesus' name. Thanks guys
Joel
Thank you so much Joel!! We try to keep it as real as we can but you’re absolutely right. Sorry about that, something we are definitely working on! 🩷
And the words from her mouth when she was alive is ,
"Steve, I shot way bigger ones than that but they sunk under the water and we couldn't retrieve them"
Its a true storey.
You my friend are a cock . At least your out there doing it so, much love to you and yours safe travels
Hahahah! Indeed we can be!! Living the highlife on the road, doesn’t get much better than that! 😍
it is her fault ....mate get your points and keep them ...something will be all your fault soon
Your obviously not using a TPMS if you had been you would benn given ample warning something was wrong
Should invest in a Saftey Dave TPMS and
Lucky we just got one from icheck!!! 😮💨 no more stressing back blowing one now!! Woooo!
Are you on holidays why don’t you slow down
More a lifestyle than a holiday these days, thanks for watching!
