I wish you'd do a tutorial for the sweep. I can't get it right. I don't know which strings to assign each finger to and I'm just sucking so bad. I have your tabs from Songster but I'm still lost. If you made a lesson on the sweep, I and 2,515 other people would love you.
I'll see if I can make a tutorial but for now here's what I can say about the sweep. If you know how to play a minor arpeggio sweep, it's basically the same shape except with a couple of different notes on the high E. Two different ways to sweep this specific one, depending on preference: (I'll label fret number followed by string in brackets) 1) Start with middle finger on 13(e), pull off to index finger on 12(e), middle finger to 15(B), index finger to 14(G), middle finger to 15(D) and then repeat with the same fingers listed on the way down for the respective positions. 2) Start with middle finger on 13(e), pull off to index finger on 12(e), ring finger to 15(B), middle finger to 14(G), ring finger to 15(D) and then repeat with the same fingers listed on the way down for the respective positions. I did the second way (even though I find it more uncomfortable to do lol...but it came off and I wasn't complaining after the millionth take haha) Hope that helps!
+Frans Georges Thank you so much for taking the time to explain all that. That's almost just as if not as helpful as a video lesson. Now that I know which fingers to assign to which strings it will make things way more streamline and not so difficult. I seriously appreciate the response. Thank you!!
+Frans Georges , no problem! Breaking benjamin is my favorite band and that was a pretty flawless cover, you did them justice haha, not to mention it helped me figure the song out too
Well done again man....Solo was very good regardless of your uncertainty. You just have such good sound to your playing, and your note accuracy is extremely impressive! You know how when you hear some guitarists, i used to be one of them; when they play you can always hear noise from other strings in the background slightly or notes that just arent picked fully so they are half ass sounding. I dont hear hardly any of that in your music, it is very impressive!
I really love your playing and being a true believer in Mr. Benjamin Burnley's writing skills the song are actually getting better when I watch them beeing played. If you ever get to Sweden, let me know, I'll buy you a beer ; )
Thanks dude! Really glad you enjoyed it. I was in Denmark just over a month ago, would have crossed the bridge over to Malmo if you had told me sooner haha!
*throws in the towel* You win. Dude....I can't play the fast part of the solo to save my life but you Fucking killed it. Are you playing the solo the same way it's written in your tab? And again great job.
Thanks mate. Just takes a bit of practice/trial and error for the recording process. Check out my video on my Gear Set Up and Recording Process to see how I make my videos, might help you out.
damn... not only did you do an amazing job picking the song, you did an amazing job playing it. I love your guitar man, I was thinking about getting one myself. Yours is a PRS, right?
First half is a sweep, second part I'm alternate picking all 8 notes. You could play the second half of the fast section as a legato if you like, I just couldn't get it to sound the way I wanted it to that way.
Every song on that album reminds me of sounds like "The Diary of Jane." You sir did a great job but this latest Breaking Benjamin album just seems one sided.
Thanks man. Failure is like a part for part rehash of Diary of Jane, it's uncanny. This one too, but it has hints of So Cold in there as well. They do follow a very specific formula when writing their songs, but I absolutely love it haha
+followfornothing That's always what held Breaking Benjamin back for me from being one of my favorite bands, all their songs sound a little too familiar and are very formulaic. Still a kickass band though, kinda like AC/DC. :D
+MysticGuitar77 I don't hate Breaking Benjamin, I just really feel like Ben tried to capture lighting in a bottle when he tried to take the formula's used to create 2 huge singles for Breaking Benjamin (So Cold and Diary of Jane) and I think that Ben believes that he can recreate that success but sadly I wasn't the only one who noticed songs like "Breaking The Silence" sound a lot like "Evil Angel" I really feel like Breaking Benjamin needs to try a new approach to their writing process and maybe do an MTV Unplugged then they might collectively have a fresh canvas that would enable them to be as creative as they wanted to be because Dark Before Dawn sounds like Ben wrote the entire album himself with zero collaboration from any of the new members.
+followfornothing He probably did write all the songs himself and the other guys just came in and played the music they were given. That's usually how it goes when you bring in a whole new group of guys to an already established band and I felt Ben was always a one-man show even before the lawsuit. Aaron and Chad added their flavor to it as the new guys will as well eventually, but it was still predominantly Ben calling all the shots and I think that's the reason why Breaking Benjamin is a very formulaic and predictable band because it's just one guy writing the majority of all the music. Now that he has a whole new band behind him, he needs to allow those guys to bring fresh ideas to the table rather than just adding to Ben's ideas and then he can naturally branch out. That hasn't happened yet, but at the end of the day, people will still love Breaking Benjamin regardless so there's really no pressure for Ben to change his formula at this point. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, that's why I compare them to AC/DC. AC/DC has been writing the same songs for 40 years and they're still one of the most relevant and biggest bands in the world. There's a certain charm when a band finds their pocket and sticks to it, that's why it's impossible for me to dislike bands like AC/DC and Breaking Benjamin for that reason.
Yeah I was confused as I basically had to learn most of the song by ear and decided that the sweep was the best way to play that part to make it sound correct. I could be completely wrong though, don't think they've even played this song live to use as a reference either!
No I don't believe so either. And the solo rhythm guitar riff is a lot easier to play on the G# string cause it's less travel from the 1st fret to the 3rd fret that the 8th to the 3rd.
Hollow is one of my favorite songs. You covered it really well!
Thanks man!!
this is so professional good job dude
Thanks mate!

Dude....I can't play the fast part of the solo to save my life but you Fucking killed it. Are you playing the solo the same way it's written in your tab? And again great job.

NIce job bro...suprised at how well the stock pups sound! either that or you eq'd the interface....either way, good job
Thanks man. Yeah I play around with some compression and EQ for all my recordings to make them sound as best as possible.
can you send me the GR5 preset for that distortion
Great freaking job man. Spot on. Can I ask how you get your tone for the recording? Guitar rig? BIAS FX? thank you
Thanks, and I use Guitar Rig, equipment used is listed in the description.
Frans Georges I see. Did you use a preset or just create your own rig on there?
Where did you get the guitar and whats the model dude? Love the cover
Cheers, it's a PRS SE Clint Lowery (details in description). Bought it from a local store here in Sydney a couple of years ago.
:)
Holy shit! I actually had an eargahzm haha
LOL glad you enjoyed it!
Yo Frans, quick question. Are you doing a sweep in the solo? Get back to me ASAP. I'm getting off my lazy was and learning this solo.
Never mind! Just saw the description! lol
the solo sounds correct like that
He nailed the solo
guitar rig preset??
Did you use any distortion pedal?
I can play this song but at 50% of you. I thought I could play it until you did, damn.
#suscribed
Hehe thank you!
Do you have tabs or did you learn this by ear?
Just added the link to the Songsterr tab I wrote in the description!
Thanks!
What sweeps do you do during the solo?
Check out the description for the link to the tab I've written.
+Frans Georges Do you pick the second sweep or do you do legatto?
First half is a sweep, second part I'm alternate picking all 8 notes. You could play the second half of the fast section as a legato if you like, I just couldn't get it to sound the way I wanted it to that way.

+Frans Georges Sounds like after the lawsuit, Ben just figures since he wrote those songs that he could plagiarise himself.

Good job. Would be even better if the tabs were included and followed along at bottom 👍
I've made a tutorial for this song
@@fgeo91 awesome. Thank you
No problem!
Would you say Hollow is an easy song to learn?
If you can play the solo, yes.
Breaking Benjamin is sweep picking? Next thing we know, avenged sevenfold won't come out with a new album until 2017!... oh wait.
Yeah I was confused as I basically had to learn most of the song by ear and decided that the sweep was the best way to play that part to make it sound correct. I could be completely wrong though, don't think they've even played this song live to use as a reference either!
