God my 30’s have been all about “what I wish I had done in my 20’s”
    1) started my own retirement account. Compound interest and all that.
    2) wore sunscreen (past sun worshiper)
    3) started tret
    4) had a solid skincare routine
    5) loved my body instead of punishing my body
    6) stopped drinking alcohol
I’m 35 doing all the above now but man what a positive position I’d be in if I had started the above in my 20’s.
It’s all a learning experience. I love my life and I am eternally grateful that I have the opportunity to learn from the past.

A friend told me your 20s are for figuring out who you are, your 30s are about processing your past and figuring out how you want to live going Forward, and your 40s are for finally enjoying yourself. As a 42 y/o who gets clocked for 10+ years younger than I am, I'm very grateful that I've always been interested and active about skincare and sunscreen. I've been applying sunscreen every day since I was 21 and the difference it has made is visible. Skin cancer runs in my family so it played double duty but the aging benefit is a bonus xD That being said, I completely agree that aging is a privilege, especially when I realize I'm only five years away from the age my mother died.
Bottom line is don't get obsessed with "fixing" your skin and looking 22 forever but think of skincare as self care, as health care and have fun with it! Consistency is key so use products you like and can afford on a regular basis as well (the cheap stuff can be really good!)

There is a lot of genetics involved in that as well. I am over 50, so I even grew up in the era of tanning beds being super popular but thanks to some weird genetic miracle, I didn't begin really noticeably aging until I passed 50. Now I worry that I'll go into speed aging at some point due to some of the bad behaviors we had when younger. 😳😆

For women, I've especially noticed that once you hit menopause the aging progresses rapidly. All the damage you put your body through starts to show almost overnight! So when someone in their 40s talks about looking younger, not really impressive. But 50+ >> there's definitely good genes and good habits from their youth doing all the work now!!

I fully support the premise of this video, if I may also offer a different perspective. As a 31 year old mother of three, I appreciate myself if I take care of my skin even half of the time. And I am fully okay with how my story is beginning to show on my face in crows feet and frown lines. I think of them as enhancing my smile, and I call my frown lines my "wisdom lines" because I like the way they make me look discerning. Overall, I have to prioritize taking care of myself and my kids in countless other ways, and I know I'll never regret it as long as I'm always giving it my best.

I have rosacea and "old" skin but it looks amazingly good for 78 because of long time sunscreen use and limited sun time and use of red light therapy for the last couple of yrs. You are so right about keeping your routine simple without too many products. Every time I get sucked into adding some new "must have" products to my routine, my barrier gets thrown out of whack and it takes me weeks to heal it and get things back on track. (I'm in the midst of one of those phases right now--ugh!) Seems like I'd be old enough to have learned that lesson!!

Loved your points on "well aging". I'm 52 and my philosophy, similar to what you expressed, is that well aging skin is skin that you care about, at the age you're in. We so often get carried away with whatever's going on in life and we neglect physical self care sometimes (or become hyper-focused; both are problems). Well aging, then, is an awareness of where you are in life, and taking steps to take care of yourself where you are.

Not sure it’s so much clean eating, as all foods are processed in some ways. However, looking at what you personally need for nutrition, is probably the biggest thing. Many people don’t get enough protein (should be at least 0.8 g per lb if you are sedentary and much more if you are active). Since skin and muscle are protein, and your muscle is completely renewed every 3-4 months, it makes sense that this would have enormous impact.

‘Keep your routine basic’ is so true. I have rosacea and sensitive skin too, and I’m finally accepting that I can’t be the person who tries new products all the time. I’ve developed multiple allergies to ingredients and the contact dermatitis isn’t worth it. Even .018% tretinoin is too much for my skin. So I’m finally sticking to what I know works for me: cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. I’d love to work in a gentle exfoliant & retinol, but that’s probably my limit

There are some acids, like mandelic and lactic that exfoliate very gently. Bakuchiol can also be a good retinoid alternative but since it is a plant extract you really need to look at the manufacturer to see if you are actually getting an active. I can’t really use retinoids either, in any great percentage. I can use low percentage adapalene but only on trouble spots and very mild retinoids, but never every day. It destroys my barrier. I have no such issue with bakuchiol.

The Naturium Retinal has been a game changer for me, as I have sensitive, fair skin that just burns no matter what, roseca on my cheeks(like under the eyes and on either side of my nose) plus hormonal acne. I've been using a targeted approach. I only use Retinal on my "problem" areas like the forehead/ nasal labia folds and jawline. I use 10% lactic acid, bit started with 5% and worked my way up. I rotated actives and only used them every other night for the entire first month.

Hyaluronic acid with B3 serum on the back of hands and neck followed by sunscreen works wonders. Argireline serum and HA under the eyes as well...such a difference. Also, use BHA liquid exfoliant, and AHA smooths out the texture.

All of my skincare choices were totally happenstance until I hit my 40's. THEN it became intentional. I'm just glad that I knew to prioritize moisturizing, especially my decolletage. My niece modeled a bit in her teens, and one of the things her teachers said was to always moisturize your face and neck together. I'm still baby stepping up to retinoids.

I turn 30 in 5 months, and for the past month I've had the longest skincare kick I've ever had (which includes binging your videos)! I've never had the energy to cleanse twice a day, now I've done it every day. I guess because of my atopic eczema, all the treatments for that wear me out. Think of how often we wash our hands? We are constantly stripping them of their natural moisture and aren’t replacing that moisture as often as we need to. That, in combination with the things you mentioned, is why they age so much faster than the face and body.

Birthdays are hard, not because I’m getting older but because he never will. While I may wish I had done things differently, I’m still around to change them which is bittersweet. It makes you realize how trivial worrying about such things is in the grander scheme.

I've been dealing with horrible eczema on my hands for the past 5 years. It made me feel like my hands had aged a lot. But what I've learned over the past year is to keep a bottle of hand cream or lotion by the soap dispenser in my bathroom and kitchen and Everytime I wash my hands I use moisturizer right after. It has helped a lot with both the eczema and the feeling of them aging.

That is aging gracefully. It doesn’t mean doing nothing. It means doing what makes sense and what actually has impact but recognizing you cannot stop the hand of time. It means recognizing that you may not have the resources (time and money) and if it becomes an obsession, you might be sacrificing the things that should matter more.

I have pretty good skin for a 48yrs old but have always struggled with complexed skin conditions, developed really bad eczema in my 30s and it persisted until my 40s, always wore sunscreen as I worked outside but developed melasma in my 40s and now I am struggling with hormonal acne. I think my greatest frustration is the complexities of aging, it’s not just the wrinkles, sagging and uneven skin tone it’s this combination of skin conditions that I have to constantly juggle. I have been able to improve on my skin health a great deal through medication and Korean Skin care but my routine is not simple, I wish it was but the minute I stop treating one condition the other flares up. This is the biggest frustration for me in aging and skin care routine it’s the having to tackle multiple skin concerns, you are constantly racing against the passing of time. You can’t deal with one problem at a time.

I completely think your gut affects your skin health. Your colon and small intestines get rid of a mass amount of toxins from your body, and if you are backed up or have issues with digestion, it can absolutely affect your skin. I find that the healthier my gut is, the less breakouts and inflammation I have in general. Inflammation in your body can also affect a ton of bodily functions, so the healthier you eat for your specific needs, the better you will feel overall. Everyone is different, obviously, so not everyone will have the same dietary needs. It's worth looking into if you have bad health or skin issues though. Thanks for another great video James! ❤

Find what works for you but I have found for me that less is more because sometimes you wind up chasing side effects (like with any treatment). Up until I was 35, it was oil of Olay bar soap and body lotion. No sunscreen, no serums. Sunscreen when I was growing up was not as cosmetically elegant for anyone medium or deeper. I now have found some great gel cream options with no cast that I can apply the recommended amount without looking like I’m on my deathbed and are really hydrating. Very little makeup because it either didn’t show up or didn’t look good. I couldn’t even wear pantyhose because it looked so weird. Figured I should start looking at other options as I aged. I went into L’Occitane and when they asked what I was in for, I explained that at 35 I needed something more. They didn’t believe me and asked what I had been doing. At 44, my niece’s friends think I am their age. There is so much that goes into aging in regards to genetics, diet, activity and other peoples perception of our age, your personality, your energy, and more. I also think that stress and not knowing how to cope with it can have a major impact.

I recently turned 33. In my early twenties, I definitely had that mentality of feeling invincible. A meal could be just a caramel frappe, and soda multiple times a day. Basically, more sugar than water! When I turned 25, it's like a switch flipped and I was suddenly jogging every morning after having a PLATTER of fruit, drinking 2liters of water every day. It was astounding how different my skin was! I don't live somewhere jogging friendly anymore, but I still try to get my servings of fruit and veggies in every day. Luckily, sunscreen has always been part of my routine because of never letting go of my goth phase. ☠️ Using moisturizer on my face is a very new addition for me.
I am planning on buying a red light panel for my partner and I to use some day. Ideally, we will use it while meditating "au natural", making it a multipurpose session.

Was watching a video from Cas Bankson, and she offhand mentioned that tretinoin is an advanced form of retinol and retinol can be a good step for ance if standard acne-marketed products don't work for you before you consider using tret. I picked up the Byoma retinol oil, and within a week, my ance had started clearing up. Now, my acne is pretty much only in the spots on my face that I have a habit of touching often (I tend to rest my chin in my left hand when clearing out work emails, so the left side of my chin and jawline). Once I've finished up the Byoma bottle that I have, I'm planning on trying the Some by Mi retinol, I love their Acne line.

I wish I could afford to buy one of those LED treatment contraptions. I've also noticed that as we're reaching a time when we can see the longer term effects of beginning procedures too young, many 20-30 year olds are looking a lot older than they should...
I noticed that Jodie Foster is aging naturally, and she's still gorgeous. Her talent boosts her physical beauty, no doubt. Watching her in True Detective recently it occurred to me that if someone is a serious actor, many procedures would pose a problem with Botox being the most obvious. Some procedures can change the voice, and if one overdid the procedures I'd think it would severely limit the roles an actor could portray down to the detail of socioeconomic status. Example: a bartender at a dive bar couldn't afford $30,000 worth of anti aging & dental procedures.

I've always moisturised even with oily skin. Couldn't afford expensive items, so it was a basic face wash like Garnier or Neutrogena for oily skin, and Nivea oil free moisturiser which contained 'uv filters' - no SPF rating so I just hoped for the best and applied extra by my eyes 😂. I'm currently using Dermatica and have ordered some 'Gruum' products to compliment it 😊. Eye cream I've got a few so I just grab what's nearest - I don't have many lines (The magic 'UV filters in that good ol' Nivea?), so I just use something to brighten and tighten with a bit of moisturisation in it 👌. Thank you for the continued content James, really piques my interest and is relevant, informative, and highly amusing at times! Especially if you lower your cortisol level (which is higher when you have some kind of inflammation in your body) you can see a lot of improvement in your skin. I myself have dermatitis and it makes a huge difference.

I'm nearly 60 and have used a moisturizer since I developed eczema at age 7. My skin still looks fine. I've never sun tanned, I'm too pale to even try.
I do wish I had slept more and eaten less/better. And not spending a third of my day in the toilet with IBS would have been lovely.
I also smoked from a very young age until I was 40. Within a month of stopping I could see a huge difference in my skin. So if anyone is still doing it, please stop and see if you notice the skin get better as quickly as I did.
P.S I stopped smoking before I got pregnant and started back up when each son became two.

I honestly think men get MORE attractive with age. Makes the face look a little more rugged and interesting. So embrace those lines. To me they are beautiful, especially the smile lines. 🔥🔥❤

Here I am watching all of your videos, trying my best to do what is best for multiple skin and body in the long run and still getting acne ; while my mother is washing her face with bath and body works foaming hand soap and moisturizing with hand cream or body lotion and she rarely if ever has any acne……😅😢

This whole video hit home for me I don't watch any skin care videos anymore because I am an anxious spender and I have actually really messed up my skin barrier in a terrier way multiple times. I have allergies and eczema and didn't have health insurance until recently so I have a doctor now and I am pretty much healed now aside from my redness. But I was always influenced into trying new things and chasing poreless glass skin and it just isn't really possible. And people don't look like that in real life. I used to even think that if I got Botox I could get rid of all my pores too. I don't know but I love this video I needed to see this thank you ❤

Being 52, my experience so far is that you just become happier with yourself and your appearance the older you get.
I remember thinking that about my hands, too. I’m still sh*t at it.
As long as your mental and physical health is ok, then possibly it’s just the way it is?

I sooo envy people with soft hands and wish I was more consistent with hand cream.
I also regret not being diligent about holding my phone at eye level. No amount of neck cream or sunscreen can stop the neck wrinkles caused by constantly looking down at my phone

I love my LED mask!! I have the omnilux face mask and it’s made some awesome improvements to my skin. I live in Tampa and I had some sun damage on my forehead (dumbass mistakes in my 20’s) but at 40, my skin is better than ever. A lil bit of botox doesn’t hurt either lol

The reason I end up not putting things on my hands is because I hate the feeling that I can't then USE my hands lest I get the goop I put there on other things. I realized, though, that the solution is to use my face products on my hands, not my body products. My face products absorb in and feel nice right away. My body moisturizer stays on the surface longer and feels wet and goopy the whole time.
