I've been trying to figure out how to make fish scales on a surface for the longest time. I'm so glad you guys made this video because it absolutely made that job so much easier.

Thanks for the vid. It is always nice to see new features being demonstrated.
The finish quality of the texture you demonstrated is awful; is this the best the feature can do or is it just the result of a quick and dirty demo?
It looks like a gen 1 3D printer on draft mode printed it. I would like to see if the finish quality of the 3D Texture Tool can produce quality finished surfaces as well as emboss a texture. Thanks!

Thank you. Everyone else didn't mention the most important step. I was dragging onto the body and nothing was freaking happening. Had to select face in the selection manager.

_Not good. I don't know why DS released this half-baked feature._
_And there are any number of approaches to manually model such a relieved pattern with perfectly smooth faces._

How about like a more organic pattern...like a random pitted surface?

I wish I found this video before meticulously making knurling on a radio knob

There isn't an 3d textures in my settings I'm using the 2018 version is this the problem?

Applying the texture appears to lay the 3D texture layer on top of the existing model, instead of cutting it into the body it's applied to. Is there a way to fix this? It's changing the geometry of my model in undesirable ways. Thanks for the video, very clear, BTW.

The 3D Texture tool only raises the applied appearance, even if toggling the "White up Black down" checkbox. There is no downward deformation, only regions of zero deformation. It's best to model with this in mind before applying the texture, since modifying the resultant graphics body is not feasible.

So i made a quick part added the 3d texture, saved my part then send to my 3d printer using grabcad. When I look at the part on the grabcad my part is smooth no texture why?

First, within the 3D Texture command, be sure the texture was applied - the "Convert this texture to 3D" must be checked to produce an actual difference in geometry and not just a visual representation. Second, the 3D Texture command produces a graphics body separate from the original solid body, so be sure the correct body is being exported.

is it possible to do this in fusion 360?

For some reason my 3d textures is disabled. It's not in the menu you show, and when I search for it in the command search bar, it comes up, but grayed out. Can you help me?

The 3D Texture appearance has to be applied to the target face/body before the command will appear as available. If you have done so, be sure the step at @2:22 is followed to complete the command, otherwise the appearance will not be applied.
