    My wife had a green geo like that when I met her in 1996. She was upset she needed tires, I got a quote for $129 for the whole set. I was like don't worry Honey I got this 🤣 I'm surprised to see one of these still alive.

    My first car was a 1992 Geo Metro automatic hatchback like 26 years ago. I remember getting pulled over for speeding by a Virginia State Trooper, on I95, on the way back to Camp Lejeune NC. He didn't give me a ticket because he said the judge wouldn't believe a Metro could ever go that fast! 😎 My plan was to swap the bigger Geo Storm engine in.

    Something that never made sense to me. How does timing cause dieseling? The ignition is shut off, it shouldn't affect anything. Is it making the spark plug glowing hot to continue ignition?

    • @xmo552
      @xmo552 19 дней назад +1

      Yes...
      From wiki:
      Dieseling can occur for several reasons:
      Built-up carbon in the ignition chamber can glow red after the engine is off, providing a mechanism for igniting unburnt fuel. Such a thing can happen when the engine runs very rich, depositing unspent fuel and particles on the pistons and valves. Similarly, rough metal regions within the piston chamber can cause this same problem, since they can glow red. It has also been suggested that an improperly rated spark plug can retain heat and cause the same problem.
      A carburetor that does not completely close can contribute to running once the engine is off, since the extra fuel and oxygen mixture can combust easily in the warm piston chamber. Similarly, hot vaporized oil gases from the engine crankcase can provide ample fuel for dieseling.
      Incorrect timing.
      An engine that runs too hot or too lean may produce an environment conducive to allowing unspent fuel to burn.
      An idle speed that is too fast can leave the engine with too much angular momentum upon shutdown, raising the chances that the engine can turn over and burn more fuel and lock itself into a cycle of continuous running.
      Another potential "run on" problem after an ignition has been turned off can be attributed to one or more inlet valves that are not sealing fully allowing the piston motion to pull a fuel mixture in when technically the valve is shut.

    • @jasonbirch1182
      @jasonbirch1182 19 дней назад +1

      @@xmo552 yes I understand all those reasons but I'm not quite following why the timing would change anything after the ignition is shut off. It's irrelevant when it's not doing anything.

    • @xmo552
      @xmo552 19 дней назад +1

      @@jasonbirch1182
      When the timing is too far advanced.... by it firing too early... it creates extreme cylinder pressure and heat. So, when you kill the ignition.. the combustion chamber is still super heated (more than normal). It doesn't matter that the ignition was killed. There is still residual fuel vapors moving and the engine is still turning for a sec and the super heated combustion chamber can and will ignite the fuel vapor coming in..... regardless of ignition system being off.
      Diesel works under the same principles. There aren't spark plugs in a diesel engine. Just super heated combustion chamber and fuel that will ignite under pressure and heat.
      A gasoline engine can mimic those conditions.
      Also if the timing is too advanced... That early ignition may actually be popping the next stroke.
      This dieseling issue is/was common with carbureted engines because the fuel is still traveling in the intake after the key is shut off, timing too far foward, and running the engine hot whether at polonged high speed, desert driving, etc.
      Most of this issue goes away with proper timing, cooling, and efi.
      Efi stops the fuel flow abruptly so then nothing ignites even if the timing is too far advanced. No fuel = no kaboom.

    • @jasonbirch1182
      @jasonbirch1182 19 дней назад +1

      @@xmo552 actual diesels are solely compression ignition. There is no fuel until the correct timed Injection. Also the spark is shut off and is in no way lighting the next charge of compressed fuel. The heated combustion chamber does make sense though.
