The Grand National was always a great family gathering at our house. We spent the morning choosing our horses, then Dad would dash to the bookies to put our (and all the neighbours) bets on. Next was a lovely Roast Beef dinner, followed by an afternoon watching the build-up to the big race.......then that music....heavenly. Mum even chose it to be played at her Funeral. The music still brings a tear to my eye and I wished they still played it on the TV as the horses are led onto the course at Aintree. Really missed the Grand National this year.
played this at my fathers funeral he was'nt a music fan but was always at the bookies or at the races, we had trouble picking music for his funeral but this piece of music is so upliftling and inspiring he would have been so proud!
My Dad loved this race, we as a Family always got a pound off of him, select a horse (I'm one of those go for the name types) and if you won you got the money... my Dad was one of the lucky ones, 50yrs ago he just decided to choose Red Rum and given he won in 73 stayed loyal to him.... wish Dad was with us today... always think of him on Grand National day.
This theme tune was my girl Louise Morgans Dads funeral song. She couldn't have picked better... Love you to bits Dad, wee Andy, always and forever. Fly high... Louise you Lovin Daughter xxxxx💯💝💖
This magnificent piece should have be names '' The heroes returned'' I'm not overly religious but when listening to this its just reiterate the power of our Messiah-The Lord Jesus Christ!
Brilliant! It brings a tear to my eye every time I hear this music it evokes many wonderful memories of the past especially Grand National thank you so much.
Thank you for your reply. I was at this years National and I stood at the chair (height:5ft 2in).These horses are professionaly trained and if they could'nt jump then they would'nt be forced too. And I know that some horses fall and/or break something and they're put down but it's basically the luck of the draw when they're brougth down or just fall. I respect your view but I'll never believe it, say what you want but the Grand National is not cruel.
(Cont. Unlike race horses who are often less than 2 years old when they run their 1st race with nothing but cartilage for bone (THAT's cruelty). But these steeplechase horses are much like 3-day eventers except for the fact that so many of them run at the fences ar once. They are trained and conditioned for it. The proof is when you watch how many lose their riders and continue on jumping the fences even when they don't have to. Bob Champion is a real hero of mine. Thanks for listening.
Of all the fences you expect to really take you aback when you see them up close and personal, the canal turn was the one that made me go "Holy SHIT!!" That's a tight turn and more so when up to 40 horses are all taking it at once.
Sorry to be so long-winded. Just wanted to say this for those who doubt: Just wanted to give some insight from one who has done something very similar, although not quite as extreme and I've never in 30 years of eventing ever broke down a horse. It also has to do with the care they receive after the race and in between events or races. That's the winning thing. Take good care of the horse and it will take good care of you. My eventer, tho retired, lived to be 29 years old. From good care
Hello, I'm wishing to ask the owner of this video if I could have permission to use this video and the music for a gentlemen's funeral that I am arranging.
Just my opinion. I have shown three-day eventing horses for close to 30 years now. First of all, there is no cruelty involved. There are very strict standards such as age of the horse and experience to go to each level. I know it's not steeplechase, but close. The secret is in the conditioning. Probably 80% of getting round the cross-country course is pure conditioning. The horse is fit and able to do the distance. And the horses have to be at LEAST 5 years old which makes them mature.
Dyg How can you say there is no cruelty involved when horses regularly have to be destroyed during that race? Animals dying for our entertainment is about as cruel as you can get.
please explain the term cruelty. the National is the greatest race in the world and yes i get what you're trying to say. sometimes horses die and its a sad occasion when they do, but the Grand National is not cruel.
“Sometimes horses die...but the Grand National is not cruel.” Lol. You think animals dying for our entertainment is not cruel? Jesus, I’d hate to see what you _do_ think is cruel.

Been once, I'm definitely going again, what a day x
When your hear that music, its time for the Annual Grand National, first mems from 1984 onwards.
Highlight of every year, annual Grand National first I rem was 1985, a lot has changed with race apart from this theme and fences.
This tune still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Grand National is coming. No race like it. But please put it back to 4m4f.
Come home safe all of you

Did you know that the ghost of Lottery is sometimes seen jumping over the last fence 30 foot high!
