I was 17 at the time and had half a crown each way on foinavon, won nearly 3 weeks wages lol.

People have to remember that Foinavon kept on plugging away and to jump seven more fences. He deserved to win. Jumping is the name of the game

At 2.16 in this recording, you see a horse breaking through the running rails to re-join the field. That horse is Popham Down, the first fence faller who went on to cause the pile up at the 23rd.

My hubby remembers reading the blurb in the Express newspaper about Foinavon on the day of the Grand National. Quote “ in a race of surprises, this horse has no chance”.
