Week 21: ME @ Kiss Kiss (Memorial Day Weekend Pt 1)

- This is the Thursday leading into Memorial Day Weekend. It's my first opportunity to play inside of Kiss Kiss which is a nightclub located inside of the Tropicana in Atlantic City. However, this isn't the only first in this video. This is also our first take over where @NickSpinelli gets to handle the vlog.

How'd y'all feel about the @NickSpinelli take over? 👀
Should we do it again? Is there any other DJ or content creator yall think should take it over for a day??
I think it'd be really cool to get interviews after the gigs from people. What they liked/disliked. I'd ask the bartenders and security, too...what did they notice (if anything - bartenders may not notice anything other than drink sales).
@@MBrulla That’s not really the question but thanks for the insight. I def want to do more of that but every time I go to do something like that. It feels like a burden.
At the end of the night specifically. Security is working to get everyone out the building. Bar staff in cleaning & counting the drawer/tips and many DJs after playing aren’t dying to be on camera. I hear you and I want to but it’s harder than it sounds.
Yes love having a guest host when you are DJing. Super fun!
@@itsjustsanti I feel you. Doesn't need to be the same night, though. Sometimes it's better when they've had time to reflect.
Tough, for sure.
@@itsjustsanti Sorry for being off-topic. It popped in my head at the end when you were talking about yourself negatively.
I dig the guests hosts...but maybe cut them off before they hit "Daddy's Night Out" level.
Drunk Nick POV is amazing 🤣 Santi you killed it! 💧
🤣 thanks for watching!!
I felt great after that nap on the way home lmao 💧
😂 that’s all that matters
💧💧💧💧
Don't forget the nap you took on the couch at kiss kiss lmaooo
Damn you were tough on yourself to call that a 5/10! Like security said at the end of the video, it was good for a Thursday, which from my experience playing there, it definitely was! If you are reading this comment, know that I was there that night and I thought Santi did as good as he could've with the crowd he was dealt. Good work at the gig and another great episode Santi. 💧
I appreciate you bro! And thank you again for pulling up! I find it hard to go over a 5 without any pops that brought the entire room together idk… I just know I can get better then that!! 📈
Thursdays are tough . 💃🏽Your transparency will allow for Growth⭐️Great points
🙏🏼🙌🏼 the journey continues!
That paper planes x rich boy transition omg
I thought that was gonna hit more 😭
Not to downplay any of the other weeks but Nick being a guest host is so entertaining lol
You did great Santi. Just remember….you learn from every event you do and that’s what will make you a better DJ! Love the Nick take over too 👍🏼
💯 practice makes progress!
Santi’s the man! Killing it. I think it’s great that Jeff showed up for support. I follow Santi just for the education lol, he’s good at it.
I’ll never forget Jeff did that! I appreciate you tuning in though!
Nah bro!! It’s Thursday night!! You would have more people on the weekend!! You killed it!!! Hands up!!!🙌🏻
I tend to not push the energy too high when the club isn’t packed but I always feel like I should’ve after. Same bro. I think it’s an empath thing
Something we can work on for sure!
you are so humble i love how open minded and goal oriented you are!!!! keep pushing... you got this💯
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 the journey continues!!
Mad respect for you, man. I've really enjoyed all these videos, they've helped me so much in navigating from an EDM/HipHop DJ into Open Format. You're killing it dude, keep up the good work. Can't wait for the next vid 💧
Let's GOOOO!!!!!!!!! Santi getting that exposure. Love to see it. 💧
The grind continues!
💧Nick at the beginning with the Santi Intro was hilarious. "All That S*^$ he talks on the internet".. LMAO.. Bro this was a solid set and it good to see you stepping out and doing it. You are your own worse critic. Keep it up man!
I was dying watching that back for the first time 😂 thank you though 🙏🏼 I appreciate you watching
Amazing happy to see you playing in the club. Yes I do also overthink sometimes, but must remember to take a deep breath in and out at those moments. And Nick please after every one or two drink hydrate! Haha
Santi, you Killed it. Following your journey since week1 from South Africa🇿🇦
That means a lot! I genuinely appreciate you watching! Especially since week 1!!
Also did anyone else see “nicks COUGAR crate”? Lol greatness!
I told him to make a video on it! I think it’s coming soon!
Love the song selection / transitions. Performing live is a different game you get better the more you do events. This was definitely solid tho🔥🔥
💯 the grind continues!
The reaction I had when I saw this title THEN the reaction I had when Nick did the intro! Love this series man
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 thanks for watching!!
Bro that “forgot it was a aca out” 👀moment. I’ve done that too many times by accident 😂😂.
I does create a cool singalong moment for you. I enjoy on to scratch in half way through.
Great vid bro.
Dude you killed it!!! And Nick’s intoxicated vlogging is the best 😂
Intro was great 😂
I was dying editing back 😂
dope stuff!!! the sit down at the bar, yeah guess we all think alike.. gotta stay ready and prepped.... shood shit bro!!!!! and Nick Spinelli with the guest spot,
Been to this club for a girls trip back in March 2023 and had a good time! Hope it’s lit this go around August 2024!!!
Bro you did good. Stop being so hard on yourself. Yes some of the mixes were off but that happens. Keep doing you, my man! Tell Nick he’s a wild boy!!!! 😂 loved this episode.
I’ve played in a good amount of rooms both open format and hip hop , hip hop is definitely a tough room to hold especially for 5 hours , my one piece of advice for you is just have fun and stop overthinking it. Once you start to overthink you start to mess up transitions and lose that connection with the room. I agree with what nvision said about an nyc hip hop room there’s definitely a lot to learn out there. You’re great at what you do just have some fun!!!
You’re right… I gotta get outta my head!
Damn dawg, your organization is top tier. I got a little over 5000 songs and I'm not looking forward to getting all that in order but I'm going to have to.
It’s def tough in the beginning but the sooner you start the easier it gets!
I need this playlist lol fire
You did great bro. For me for dj that starting out if you want to learn how to read a crowd first play for your family and friends and test out there reactions and once you get a positive feed back from that then work your way up to a smaller crowd. Little by little. Especially looking at the age groups and how they speak that can give you a better idea 💡.
💯💯💯
If I was at that club, I woulda had a good time. Nice job, keep pushin brotha…
🙌🏼 the journey continues!
Dope vid Santi keep crushing it bro love the content
Ima be honest, I NEED Yo Playlist. Run that! Well deserved moment, I haven’t even finished the vlog yet but I’m happy watching you get that DJ Placement
Need more of nicks drunk pov footage 💧
💧 I was curious what happened to Nick at the end lol. I imagine he recorded some footage that didn't make it in. It's great to see you two supporting each other. Must have felt nice to have Nick film for you after you have filmed so much for him at weddings. Great teamwork! 💧
Def was surreal to have it reversed! I can’t thank that guy enough!
💧💧 That's for nick lol. I would take it to a 10 if thats all the crowd I was getting. You did good always room for improvement no matter what. But like you said keep going and working and you will definitely raise to the top!
Awesome, thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching!
But if it’s a New Spot that has never seen me , I have to show up and show out 🔥 Straight Up
Santi, nothing but respect for you man. Playing 5 hours straight is no joke and to me you did a great job.
Your 52 weeks at the club series are really inspiring. Keep on pushing!
Much love from the Netherlands 💯
JUGGLING! was DOPE‼️🔥🎵🔥..Hydrate @ Nick, SANTI Just remember to have Fun it translates.✨
Good video as always. I’m late to this party, nah it happens where some time you don’t have a good set, but it all comes down to music selection. Didn’t have the best night last night but got an offer for a residency.
I Enjoy your vids, I think they are good, and I can't criticise, I'm nowhere as good as you. .Keep up the good vlog
Bro, you’re Trippin! Your transitions were fire and your track selection was on point! I guarantee you would crush it harder and then 90% of our DJs here in Kansas City
I hope one day I can play in Kansas City to find out if that’s true!
@@itsjustsantiI’m from Kansas City as well bro. You definitely would but it’s dominated by Ghetto Hip hop 😂 U are BEYOND that shit
Ngl your mixing is elite ive noticed most djs mixing is subpar your mixing is elite bro from DJ to DJ people rarely show their basic transitions but they are so clean… big up santi 🎉🎉🎉🎉 from the UK
I appreciate that! I just gotta work on everything else 📈📈📈
Wish you guys would had started in the 1998's when I started djing would had help me a whole lot 🙏 but great jobs guys like always agid bless both 🙏🙌👍💪🔥🔥💪
Santi You killed meng i have the same Mentality to I go out usually i shadow alot alot of djs here in miami! U did good good good!!🔥🔥
Bro you're a great DJ, all this stuff you're doing between content creation and teaching people skills, tips, and tricks is beyond what anyone else (including me) does. Your mixing is on point, one thing I would suggest which I learned is that to get the crowd going nowadays you have to be more back to back with the stimulating hits. Later on into the night you backtracked into some great RnB songs but sometimes you need to keep the momentum going even when the club is half empty. Build the energy until a point where the crowd is so mesmirized with what you did and then you can surprise them with a slower song or anything that gives your set personal flavor but until then play what they know word for word SPECIALLY when the room is empty later on in the night, you need to distract them from the obvious emptiness and the only way to do so is to keep that energy at 100, atleast that's what I realized.
REALLLLL. we all live the same lives i feel like frl ahah. what he said dont over thinkkkkk!
Sometimes it feels like that 😂 you’re right though and THANK YOU for watching!
Great video once again bro. I think your set was poppin. All DJs make small mistakes here and there.
A little Jersey Club maybe ? Not sure how it’ll work. But I think the extended ladies set always works. Gets the girls who came together out there, and gets the men who’re trying to hit on them out there or at least gets them to move. But I think u did a dope ass job
Agreed on the jersey club. I was scared in the moment to push the energy up that high in a half empty room but my thinking was wrong. Next time will be better! Thanks for watching!
Nick needs that 💧😂 my boy was sauced. I only have terrible advice cause in my early days I thought of myself as a rockstar. So I used to get fucked up drunk while djing. I know I know. How unprofessional but let me tell you I was like a drunken master. Not overthinking shit and not afraid to take risks. The crowd seemed like they were more into the reggaeton than the hip hop. It was hard to tell from the view. Thanks for the content homie
Keep pushing bro 💯💯
💯 the grind continues!
Even though the night didn't get too crazy, it was still a great watch. I sometimes allow my vibe and energy to be dictated by the crowd in front of me, and then I have to snap out of it and just play as if it's busy. It's not yours or the people who came outs fault that it's a slow night, they showed up to have a good time and you showed up to put on a show. Another note: It's great that you use stems for smooth mixes, but we all know you can cut and I didn't see any of it in what you showed. I find that it can bring up the energy a bit because it shows the people that you are putting in work and scratching can help build some anticipation over just cold dropping tracks. A great example of where to do some simple cuts is on that Nicki part that you looped in Dance. Alternating between creative blends, dropping on the 1, scratching and mic work help make things not sound monotonous. Keep up the great work!
I appreciate how detailed this is! I let my lack of experience eat away at my confidence and I end up overthinking and holding back on the more technical stuff especially. I gotta work on that for sure
So cool you took Nick out for his 21st !
My age is showing. Only 36 and those strobes drove me nuts. Hangovers get way worse the older you get.
I wanted to hear more pop in your set, but i've been there - you play pop/open, then they don't react, or yell at you to play hip hop or whatever. Still nice job. Good work.
Thanks for sharing, and keep rocking!
-Ryan
Lmao to the first comment!
Hips Swing > Handsome Wealthy
was FIRE 🔥
You did well bro! You be in your head a lot.
I’d also throw In as far as MIC SKILLS
ALWAYS GIVE A S/o to the Birthdays & Play 2 chainz / birthday song , LOOP the part where he says “ITS YA BIRTHDAY, ITS YA BIRTHDAY!
& Transition that into something 🔥
“If you celebrating a birthday tonight , Make some nooooise!”
I heard somebody celebrating a birthday tonight 🗣️
Point to the Birthday person right now! - then have birthday song ready
#teardrop
Thanks for watching!
You have high standards for yourself and I respect you as a dj for feeling that way. Respect ✊🏽 and Love.
RESPECT 🙌🏼 Thanks for watching!
To answer your question @23:00
It depends on my mood and how much prep for that night!
I might ride the wave of the night
if I see a group of baddies come in and I know they want to spend $$$ I’ll turn em up for 30 minutes
Then relax a lil bit
💧 get on that pedialyte!
Sidebar @ Santi -
Given your recent travels are you seeing slower nights more often now? If you search “are nightclubs dead/dying There’s a decade worth of videos. But a ring of very recent, even from Crossfader 🎉 great vid, and good set 👍🏼
I def have seen a lot of those vids but in my opinion right after the world came back the clubs were BOOMING…. But now the economy has taken a nose dive and even more people are living check to check. So yea I’ve noticed slower nights more often BUT if you have a KNOWN party or a KNOWN name DJing it still gets nuts because people know what they’re getting. Going out just to go out and seeing a random DJ? That type of crowd is WAAAAAAY down.
💧Some mic work is better than none at all. Good stuff. Who works the fog machine?
The Nick take over was awesome, we didn’t deserve it but we got it
😂 we gotta do it again
I think with the hip hop rooms its so tough because you have to figure out whether you go for the modern or past bag and try to figure out how new you can go. Definitely practicing mic work in a hip hop setting I think is huge and can help. And even the concept of using the mic to "transition" by slam mixing. Like playing not like us, doing a call and response by starting the "tryna strike a chord and its probably" and the crowd say the "a minor" part and then you drop the next track on the 1. Highly suggest checking out a true NYC or Boston hip hop room because alot of them mix that way and i feel like that would inspire you alot on the mic phrases. SNAX has some of his stuff on mixcloud with him mixing like that.
YO! I appreciate this. You’re right more research to do for sure
I would recommend throwing Afro beat in the mix too bro.
As a Warm ⬆️ Set - Early Night Set
just to add to your strategy
Spoken like a true DJ friend “HES KILLING IT…….i would’ve done that differently. I never woulda played that….. BUT HES KILLING IT!” Lol
💧mistakes are ok. so the people see that the set is not prerecorded. keep going 💪🏼
Mixing mistakes yes but song selection/wave direction mistakes hurt me badly this night
I can’t be the only one who was expecting a post-credits scene of Santi dragging Nick’s unconscious body into the Uber home.
🤣 he may have not been talking English anymore but he made it to the Uber 🏆
Santi what about a battery pack so you can get your full set? Why settle lol
I record with my iPhone and if I put a MagSafe charger on it doesn’t fit the clamp on the stand.
I should do more research to find a corded one to Velcro to the stand but I haven’t put the time in to research that solution because 4 hours of footage is already ALOT to go through
always would feel like an off night when the dudes in the room is leading dance floor .. maybe just me.. notice few times like when played lumidee joint for example their was good amount girls .. maybe should have stuck more dancehall - reggae - reggaeton - on that mood so keep playing shiet they can dance on rather than where to bring energy at .. think some song are hot on the chart but not really that type girls like to dance on and dance floor becomes what look like a rap cypher circle .. just my two cents .. and nick drunk should always be the 2nd camera view for these blogs lol…but keep at it man every time it’s an experience and lesson learned
Definitely learned some lessons this night!
Bro some nights are good , some nights it’s rough but the most important thing is that you pushed through it ….nick was good if he can stay up after all the drinks.
Hey, respect the fire and intensity you bring. You might be being a bit hard on yourself. The crowd needs to give you energy back too. I’d be curious how you would feel about this a week later. You might see your set in a more positive light.
Dam clubbing is so different these days no dancing just like vibing lol it's crazy
Watching that video I felt there were some weird songs to transition to that there was no anticipation for the next song and the genre would change. If I'm switching, we're going to a banger.
Always gauge the room. You don't want to sound like you're playing to a packed house when it's not. It looks a little weird.
Bro DJ like it’s a full club. People want to be entertained to the fullest. Other than that you did your thing!!😎😎
You’re 100000% right. I’ve learned my lesson! Just gotta keep working on it 📈
If its peak hour and the club isn't packed I would push through and perform with High energy at peak hour anyways. If the club is having a slow night and never gets packed at least the people who attended had a great time. my 2 cents.
At 7mins in while you were getting food… i heard “southern soul” music being played…. Wow they play Tucka and other southern soul artists up that way?
Not often it’s just because we were at Wild Honey it’s a southern style smokehouse restaurant
@@itsjustsanti interesting…. If you were in parts of Alabama and south… those somgs would fill the floor or build the momentum
@@DJTailSpin96 😮 I gotta do my research
@@itsjustsanti reach out. I got plenty of those trax. And will your series be making trips to clubs in other parts of the US? Like the south? The Midwest or west coast
💧💧💧
curious... what is the club using to control the lighting?
I have no idea
Listen don't be so hard on yourself. Sometimes you need more than 1 night to feel what the club likes and doesn't like. My goal was always to play for the women and the men would follow. Great vlog I'm sure NICK got shit face lol
Bro you were waaaaaaayyyy to tough on yourself. Set was great, but your attitude about always improving, that’s the lesson here. I’ve seen many performances way below your performance. So you didn’t feel it - ok the next one will
Be better. For me Mic Work is about phrases I work out early in the set - figure out a simple drink special thanks to everyone for coming out to club xyz, tonight visit the bar and let them know DJ Santi sent you - for the “special”. You are just warming up and getting comfortable. This always helps me. Btw a Little hydration for Nick!!! 😢😢.
Put out that balcony video already its been 2 weeks
💧
Santi don’t be so hard on yourself. Yes, the expectation is to be perfect, but I’m sure you played at least 240 songs. Don’t dwell on the at most 5% errors; correct those few and keep it pushin. We as djs are our worst critics!
You’re way too hard on yourself, bro. I think that was a fire set based on what I heard.
I appreciate that! Pressure makes diamonds… or it’ll make me crazy. Either way it’ll make good content lol
Get Nick to mix in some waters 💧
I enjoy this vid your def hard on your performance but I thought you did a good job
bro after 11;30pm hits and i got less then half im working what i got from 0 to 100 % vybes alone i used to wait for more people to come but when i did that the people that was there started leaving because they got impatient just work with what you got bro .
You’re right man! I gotta handle this situation differently next time
also with mic practice i did that in my bed room bro trust me its sound dumd but when i did it in my home i was confident to do it out side and i even started making up stuff on the spot practice it bro at home you'll get better trust me
I want to see what's in Nick's cougar crate..... 💧
@nickspinelli should a make a vid breaking it down!
💧💧
Thanks for watching!!
Memorial Day and most big holidays in AC are tough. Spread out… outdoors… amateurs
I disagree especially in terms of summer holidays. AC and the the Jersey shore get flooded for summer holidays
@@itsjustsanti Ok having worked in AC nightlife for years I see it somewhat differently. Im not saying the city isnt busy -there are a lot more options and nights to go out. Crowds sometimes spread thin.
@@BwInNewJersey valid point! I still think I could have done better with what I had. The journey continues 📈
@@itsjustsanti I hear you. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Remember holiday crowds start early and often with day clubs and beach bars etc.
Ive seen some of the masters struggle on holidays, love your ambition.
ALWAYS push the energy up!! Despite the number in the room. Your job is to hype up the room up!! Until,,I would say,, the last half hour. Also,,,you're waaay to critical on yourself. Even with the mistakes you'd destroy most of the DJ's I know! Nick,,,HYDRATE YO ASS if you insist on drinking to that level.
I’m definitely going to approach that situation differently next time! If I wasn’t critical. I’d get complacent. I know I have so much to improve on… I’m just being honest about it
@@itsjustsanti Yeah you have to be real about it,, just don’t beat yourself up too much either. You KILLED it. Also remember,, it was Thursday!!
Santi your a little too hard on yourself, I know your just trying to do a good job. focus on playing for the ladies... you said it was more of a hip hop room but i would of played some uptempo stuff like rihanna, Don Omar ect, just to see if they vibe to it
Pressure makes diamond! Or it’ll make me crazy lol either way you’re right I’ll def approach situations like this differently in the future
what bad bunny song at 18:30
Moscow Mule
Mowcow Mule
If you are doing the whole night. You can run the gambit. I think you held back to much. More bangers peak hour you need to show them earlier you know what’s up.
Agreed! If I’m in the situation again… I HAVE to approach it differently
This might be an unpopular opinion, but that club is not built for hip hop and/or rap. The lights do not match the lack of energy in the music being played. That light show needs 128 and above BPM.
I don't think its a 5. I would say a strong 7💧
Thanks for watching! I’ll take it.
The grind continues! 📈
nick whats wrong with stop it bro thats santi we talking bout bro
Lmao it’s all fun and games. We’re definitely occasional degenerates
Bro your set was fire. Honestly, it wasn't you. It's just people in general now adays. I've noticed in recent years, especially since COVID, DJing just isn't the same anymore. People don't get into clubbing like they used to. I DJ a couple of places around here in DC, and none of them are what they used to be. The set was fire though!
Man… I can never justify blaming the people. They came out to have a good time. I just didn’t do a good job of making it an AMAZING time
