    That rice trick is incredible for estimating the mold material. I was watching BITY's video on how to calculate the amount, and this is far easier and more accurate knowing my math skills.

    I just went to a mold seminar at Halloween Extreme. We used mold star to make our mold and smooth cast 300 to cast the object! I love this stuff! Reynolds was the provider of the product- they have a store in LAX and loads of stuff! Hope to make some skulls soon! Just working on finials for my fence! Molding can be addictive! Great video!

    Oh Chris! You must have the patience of a Saint! I'll need a blessing to get through, if I ever make one of these! lol I may have to turn this into a book form for quick reference! Hahaha! Awesome job! Loving every minute of it!

    Thanks Timothy, A three part mold would be awesome! Some silicones are less flexible than others and mold star does stretch pretty well. I found adding a little clay to all areas where it could cause a harder release when making my molds helps. But to give you an idea of production for us with four of these we can produce 40 or so in half a day easy. =)

    I'm the same way with the math, the rice is a easy way as long as the sculpture or item your molding isn't to heavy and hard to flip around. It can get a little messy but it can really save some money in rubber.

    I've watched a bunch of mold-making vids and this is about as pro as it comes! Have you ever/do you plan to do a jaw mold as well? Is your intention to cast styrofoam, resin, or what into these? Or all of the above?

    Great video series! One question I have is about what exactly are you doing when you place the wooden dowels into the pour spouts? You hammer in small nails at the ends and center them in the holes. So does that mean when you cast does the casting material actually only enter thru the small nail holes? Do you have problems with air bubbles with this mold?

    • @HollywoodHaunter
      @HollywoodHaunter  10 лет назад +2

      The wood dowels are temporary pieces that will make our pour spout or breather holes through the silicone for the resin and plaster to go through each time you cast. The little nails help the dowels stay in place by poking into and pressing up against the skull or object your making the mold of. That way as you pour the silicone they won't move around. This silicone is great for having minimal air bubbles. Keeping the stir stick in the silicone as you stir and pouring from high above and even tapping the side of the mold with a rubber mallet will help reduce any air bubbles. Thanks for watching =)

    Hey great video, I am manufacturing Skull candles and need to make a mold from my master, just wondering what the clay you used is? water based or Kleen clay type oil based? Learnt heaps from this video! thanks

    • @HollywoodHaunter
      @HollywoodHaunter  10 лет назад

      Thanks for watching =) I used a water based clay for this video. I have used both and prefer the water based cause the clean up is much easier for me. If you need more time oil based is a less stressful route.

    Have tried to mold a skull in this manner.. production is extremely slow, and the eye sockets don't fill fully w silicone.. I reckon a proper way would be a 3 part mold pouring silicone w the face upward.. Also, maybe because I used a 55A silicone, but it was impossible to pull free.. definitely a 3 part mold is the way

    This would be better if youd explain what your doing?

    • @HollywoodHaunter
      @HollywoodHaunter  5 лет назад

      If I had to do it over I totally would. At the time I explained it all in annotations not realizing you could only see it from a computer and not on phones or tv. I think they may have even done away with them all together now. I really spent quite a bit of time writing out all the steps in detail with products. Oh well Live and learn.
