I noticed with this whiskey if you let a smaller pour sit for more than 30-40 minutes this thing opens up and become a freakin alllll time great! Swish in your mouth a bit. I’m telling you. Once this opens up it’s the best I’ve EVER HAD

The standard Jack Daniels is ok IMO. I describe it as a utilitarian whiskey. Reminds me of the guy in the 1970s who smokes Marlboro cigarettes, drinks a Budweiser and will dabble in some Jack Daniels and it’s a nice weekend.

One of my favorite JD offerings, the barrel proof has never disappointed me. But if $60-70 USD is too steep for you, you can find the barrel proof JD in 375ml bottles for about $35. That's how I like to buy it.

I feel that you get more flavor and bang for your buck with higher ABV. I start neat then add a little water to open it up. So a glass becomes a glass plus, depending on how much water I add. Sometimes I'll even add a small ice cube (gasp). I find that high ABV can handle a little abuse. I love the Jack single barrel select. The barrel proof is next on my list. Great bottle design , by the way. Excellent review. Thank you.

Nose: Definitely smell the proof.. after 5 mins of breathing - Caramelized bananas (bananas foster), vanilla, slight cinnamon,... almost a cinnamon roll.
Palate: WOW. Very tasty. It starts off sweet and slowly lingers into a more savory finish. All of the smell with barrel and baking spice sprinkled on the finish. very long finish. definitely comes with the proof.
    Overall 8.4/10.

I like Jack Daniels but I love trying different whiskeys and after expanding my palette it's hard to come back to the 40% og jack and appreciate it like I used to. Great review Bill. Your notes helped out tremendously with my first sampling of this whiskey. I didn't want to pull the trigger on a full size bottle but was able to find a 375ml for $30 US. With only about 2 years into my journey I still enjoyed my first taste of this high ABV whiskey. I sampled wee drams (shout out to Roy) of Ironroot Harbinger XC, Angel's Envy and JD Single Barrel-Barrel Proof. All were good but JD was my favorite. Thanks again.

I agree.. I picked up a bottle of this for $65 today. This is definitely definitely a small small sipper. I poured a quarter of an 8oz glass, roughly 2oz or less. The burn is actually much less than I thought it would be at 129 proof. From that little bit I drank though it hits very very hard! The difference between 100 proof and 129 proof when it comes to the effects alcohol produces is insane to me. I can make this bottle last a good while.

Initially I liked the regular SB over the SB BP, but now I am totally enamored with this. It doesn't stand up to the ECBP C920 that sits next to it on my bar as far as complexity and overall depth, but I find myself going to the Jack more often as a regular hitter.

Just cracked open my first bottle of JD SBBP at 130.8 proof. That's a little hot for my novice palette, but poured over a nice piece of clear ice to let dilute a bit... DANG! I'm not able to pick it the complexities yet. In mine I definitely get a lot of oak and a little sweetness, maybe vanilla and caramel. I think it's just a little too hot for me at this point to appreciate it and I let it dilute too much, but I do like it.

Cinnamon butter on banana bread sounds amazing... i get more of a banana bread made with extra cinnamon myself (probably subtle difference) - and i find that behind the standard bourbon notes, not as a primary note. Also got caramel and barrel spice on the nose with some oak behind those 2 notes.

Gentleman Jack I get a ton of banana in. Basically banana bread. I haven't gotten to try this barrel proof yet. It might be my first try into something this high. I have a Knob Creek store pick at 120 proof. I didn't care for standard Elijah Craig so I am not sure I wanna try the barrel proof of that one.

Love your channel and I'm a new whiskey fan. I can only have one measure though and I'm done. 😴
