I remember driving into town with my mates who I went to the match with, couldn't get near the ground by car. It was amazing outside the ground, the atmosphere and just the pure joy in the signing. I also remember jumping on the bus to Gosforth Park hotel in '82 to spy through the conference room windows because we'd heard a certain KK was signing for Newcastle. There must have been at least a couple of hundred others who had heard the same thing, and this was in the days pre-internet so I have no idea how the rumour got around :)
I might write a story about resilience in 10 years of how I resisted this guy's soothing voice avoiding a subscription to athletic! Silently proud of myself 🥰
Alan shearer is the epitome of a top class finisher, he acts like a inspiration to aspiring and budding strikers, if henry didn't exist nobody could deny that Shearer is the best PL forward of all time

(He had injuries too -- I know) Also, when you look at all the drama that unfolded at NUFC during his time there it has to be said perhaps Shearer wasn't the best captain in terms of running a dressing room. But it's not because of Shearer joining, it's because Keegan resigned and his title challenging team got subsequently dismantled by Kenny Dagleish and then completely destroyed by Ruud Gullit. Shearer was the one constant bright spark during the late 90's and early 2000's for Newcastle. Going missing in big games is not something I recall, whenever Newcastle won a big game it was due to Shearer, when we lost a big game it was because of our defence and players like Titus Bramble and Steven Taylor. Even Messi goes missing in big games sometimes. I don't know Shearer personally nor was I present in the dressing room during his days at Newcastle, so unless you were, you can't say that his captaincy was a problem. He was a leader on the pitch and you can't blame him for players like Bowyer, Bellamy, Dyer and Emre, it's the captains job to be a leader but you can't expect him to be responsible for the actions of every players. Just to add, that when Bellamy started being a prick, he had the absolute shit kicked out of him by Shearer on the training pitch and he was subsequently loaned out to Celtic, that might not be leadership but it's the same type of thing Roy Keane or Big Dunc would have done, both of which have been amazing captains. This was probably the worst day as a Blackburn fan.... he was the difference between a decent team and Premier League winners, and Blackburn never really recovered from his loss. Got some great players in and played some great football over the years... but can't think of any world class players that went through Blackburn after Shearer.
