      @John Smith Yes, that's what I was coming here to write. I remember that time. Benazir Bhutto' was a re-occurring news topic BECAUSE there was a very high probability she would be targeted for assassination, but she refused to cancel her return to Pakistan, then SURVIVED one attempt to kill her with 2 bombs soon after, STILL refused to leave, and literally was killed around Christmas, I think. It's NOT a conspiracy, just coincidental timing that it matched the movie release.

      Historical note: The conspiracy that Booth was a part of was NOT to kill the president; the plan was to kidnap Lincoln. Booth took it upon himself to shoot the man he blamed for the fall of the confederacy. We know this because the other conspirators were later captured, put on trial, found guilty of treason and hanged.
      The problem with this movie and the movie/book that inspired it, The de Vinci Code, is that they must exist in an alternate universe because the “history” in the stories are as fictional as the stories they are in and they require the audience to either be ignorant or not care -which is harder the more they stray from what actually happened.

      I agree. Because nobody cares. The only people who care what dead people did over a century ago are people obsessed with looking good to their designer college friends. Ok, so say Patrick is 70 in the movie, which means he was born in 1937. Say his father was born in 1897, so Patrick's father would've been 40 when Patrick was born, still realistic, which would mean Patricks grandfather had Patricks father when he was 42 given the boy is 10. Not terribly inaccurate. Farfetched, but not really 3 generations off.

    The most frustrating sin in this movie is when the president tells Ben that if he doesn’t find the treasure, he won’t be able to explain why he kidnapped him without him going to prison, yet, at the end of the movie, the president just says “this man saved my life by helping me out after getting trapped”
    The entire suspense of Ben getting caught hinges on that scene 😐

    Mkay, maybe I'm remembering the movie wrong, but I could have SWORN that, during the scene where Nick Cage is slowly putting his hand into the eagle-rock-hole...thing he suddenly screams like he's in immense pain and everyone freaks out and then he starts laughing and shows everyone that his hand is fine saying he couldn't resist. That model of Ferrari, if equipped with the F1 paddle shifter option, has a button on the center console to enter "automatic" mode, which would negate the need to shift. Directly in front of that button is the button that puts the car in reverse. If he thought he knew the car well enough to reach for the "automatic" button by feel, and accidentally hit the reverse button, this could be a feasible outcome.

    • @DanteYewToob
      @DanteYewToob 5 лет назад +3

      Sometimes I'd accidentally put my Acura TSX into reverse lol I had a custom sport shifter which moved R from just under park, to the bottom. The slap shifter was off to the side at the bottom, where you just slap it back for up, forward for down.
      If I jumped in fast, and threw the shift knob back, and it sat between the slap shift and reverse modes, sometimes I'd slap it backwards and it would fall into Reverse instead lol most of the time I could feel it going slightly right, and not left and would correct, but once or twice I actually did bump back a bit and panic slam on the brakes.
      Shit happens! Hahaha
      Damn I miss that car. She was a good girl. All black leather interior, gunmetal grey exterior... custom spoiler and blackout kit on all my lights.... fuck. I miss that car so much! It hurts! There's something in my eyes.... sadness.

      One thing I dislike about these films is how quickly and easily he solves everything.
      I figure the issue is the writers are looking at history and coming up with some puzzle or riddle and then having Ben Gates reverse the process because he knows history and immediately solves the obscure history riddle. Like the writers come up with a riddle that only makes sense because they know the answer, and so their characters do too. It's not like a clue that he gets stumped on or one that makes sense, it's them making up a riddle and writing the characters doing the reverse to solve it.

That’s how they find peoples cars at the mall. They knew he’d be there that day signing... so it’s obvious it would be no hassle to get it, cuz he’d be busy anyway.... perfect.

    Every adventure movie seems to have these secret Rube Goldberg type mechanisms set up to guard their treasures, and all of them are designed to work ONCE. They appear in the Mummy movies, Indiana Jones movies, National Treasure movies, and probably more if I thought about it. And they make no sense. The materials of which they are made would never endure for hundred or thousands of years. And once the trigger is located and tripped, the whole thing falls apart, which either forever exposes, destroys, or permanently hides the treasure. Its a trope of which I am VERY tired.

If Riley was so smart with computers, and coded the deciphering program to find Lady Liberty, why did they use a PAPER dictionary to find every five letter word manually, and nearly give up before magically finding the right word from the story’s missing quote? Couldn’t they just use an electronic dictionary and then get the most probable results? I’m pretty sure Microsoft word even has one with a compatible format.

How could the water be constantly flowing and draining if someone had to open the door and stay behind to keep it open? Claimed President Lincoln dismissed him for the rest of the play and so at intermission he went to a tavern with President Lincoln's footman and coachman. Also, not only are cops never off duty, the FBI actually has rules limiting their agents drinking of alcoholic beverages............so yeah, he's still FBI even outside. And the Secret Service guy pisses me off. In real life it's more like "you don't have a choice Mr. President. Sorry" And Gates' plan revolves around the President somehow agreeing to go down in that tunnel without any Secret Service protection.

      Yeah...He's an actor. Who cares? People from different countries all over the world play Americans in TV and films. Abigail who's played by Diane Kruger is German born so what's your point?

      She would have been a popular search bevor she died first when she announced her candidature and return out of exile, and then after surviving the first assassination attempt. So not that strange

    Hearing that line played at a slower speed really changes the implications behind it.

      Like the fact that identical twins cannot be a boy and girl? It's biologically impossible. They must be the same gender.

      That already exists. You just have to watch the movie. The entire thing is a sin, and paying to see that movie, thus giving money to criminal Adam Sandler, is definitely sinful.

    there is a London Canada for the record. So this time the just in case you confused it joke doesn't work

    • @masquerademoth
      @masquerademoth 9 лет назад +13

      +Joseph Thompson Well, it does still work, since the joke is if you say 'London' or 'New York' or 'Paris' or what have you no one's going to think you're talking about anywhere other than the UK, the US, and France since there are many places that share those names, but the only ones that matter to most people are the big ones--and since the big ones tend to be the only ones referenced in movies, saying the name of the country renders itself redundant.
      So. the fact there is indeed a place called London in Canada reinforces the joke, given that it would be quite strange for someone to say I went to London, and for anyone to assume, "Oh, the one in Canada!" would be really bizarre. You'd say London, Canada so as not to be confused with London, England--but saying London, England as if anyone would confuse it with London, Canada would be silly.
