    Catch Up
Obviously in turbulent times, we're often up to here with stuff to do, but you're likely to have some down time. Some time where the most productive thing to do might be to clean up the backlog. That is, to bring up the rear guard, as we say.
For instance, how current is your bank balance, your investments? How sharp are your kitchen knives? How well have you fertilized your garden for the spring, or the summer?
What's up, what's out there that you say, I need to catch that up? I'm not totally current with whatever that's about.
And that may be some of the best things you can do. Is to go find something that you need to catch up on. The smaller the backlog of outdated things or things that are not current. The cleaner and clearer it is to deal with surprise and new things coming towards you.
The best thing to do right now if you have some windows to do that
is to look around and say what needs catching up to get current?

I keep forgetting the massive principle that GTD is a way of life. GTD is amazing giving me a second chance in life. Thanks David!

Brilliant words. What's in my backlog? Ah! You just reminded me to fertilise my plants.

I work for a hospital where meetings and email are an engrained part of the culture. In the last 4 weeks, I have attended 93 meetings and read 4,200 emails. The problem is that meetings and email don’t equal work. This leaves about 30% of my time to do work. Do you have recommendations on the process or prioritization when the inbox exceeds capacity and the most important “do next” is not the one on top?

Couple thoughts/ideas. Aside from an email causing a 2 minute action in the moment, a next action would be pulled from email into an external trusted system (grouped by context - @Computer, etc). If it's hard-edged (day or day/time) then it's on a calendar. I'm thinking if it's really important, then your reminder would be calendar-based. Another thought is to establish an agreement with returning emails. For example, at DavidCo, it was externally 24 hours and internally 48 hours. Another idea, for those emails that are more automated - newsletters, etc - have a rule that auto processes them into a folder, and then set-up an agreed time to go into the folders and skim through. Another thought - do you really need a specific meeting in the first place and do you need to attend or delegate to someone? These are just my thoughts. Definitely use the Agenda concept within GTD - then you'll attend those meetings and crank thru your accruing agenda items that come up between meetings. Also, ensure every meeting ends with everyone owning various Next Actions. OK. I'll stop now.

Any suggestion for a +1k backlog tasks ? Yes Im into GTD practices but it keeps really hard cleaning it , priotizing (including) the new and executing the most important in order to continue cleaning it.. Its like they will never go to ✅. Those older tasks that get old: Should we keep them out if they are "not important" for 3years or so? Then deleting them feels like that move is not bring true to oneself because they are there because we put them in the first place.. Hope its not a mental error 😂
Lot of those little tasks are part of a greater project task. Feels like I avoid them to only work on the current job.. Thats scary. Thanks for your tips sir! Wake minds will always need them!
