@@thenegromancer4695 they could animate them with cgi but it seems that most anime studios can't make proper cgi animations. Just look Red vs Blue a decade ago with peak cgi fights, made by a damn indie studio
I call this the anime effect. This is when manga authors feel the need to add the most outlandish, over the top and unbelievable things for the protagonist to overcome and has the opposite effect of looking severely out of place in the show. A good example is the anime Yasuke, he is from 1581 Japan and yet somehow in the anime he ends up fighting random robots and wizards. In a ninja show, instead of being ninjas and fighting like ninjas they end up in bright coloured power ranger suits and have weird slow action sequences. Idk what it is but it's like the authors' start doing lines mid writing and start adding anything in there.
I don't think that's the issue. Afro Samurai does the same thing with it's feudal/futuristic setting but it works there since it was set up from the beginning. Ninja Kamui had futuristic tech too but the fact that it made his ninjutsu useless was a weird choice.
One of the worst things was to hype up his wife as a legendary, emotionally intelligent and all knowing ninja after she was killed quickly without much struggle against average ninjas..
@littleregrets8810 Dude, she was ambushed by like 5 of them plus the leader, protecting the boy all at the same time. Cmon now, you expect her to girl boss her way out of it 😂?
the main thing that got people hooked on this show was the animation and fights. Unfortunately, the shows director, Sunghoo Park, was also the only animator carrying most of the project. He cooked for the first few episodes, but he can only animate so much in the entire show.. so dropoff occurs. It is the studio's first project though, I have faith they will learn from their mistakes. Also The yaboyroshi reaction was so funny lmao😭😭
they had that one gimmick "your wife wanted you to live on" but Higan was deadpan and had no real emotions. They could have shown him breaking down and trying to find meaning into living but it seemed too rushed.
I agree. While we could appreciate the lost of his family, I think if they invested in just 5 more mins of building up their relationship as a tight knit family, we could all have been emotionally invested into his revenge arc
Yeah, I never quite understood the mindset. People really want to feel like they're part of the club really bad, lol. I saw video after video talking about how this was one of the best new animes after like 2 episodes. It's silly.
The one great thing about Ninja Kamui is its art style and dub. I gotta tell you. Being in a hotel room Half asleep at 12am watching a 12 hour marathon of Ninja Kamui on Adult Swim/Toonami, took me back to the old days. Nostalgic af.
Songhoo Park was the director of this show. He is an extremely talented action director that often produces insane amounts of cuts of animation to his projects. He was the main director in the first season of JJK and JJK0 and almost every noteworthy cut of hand to hand action in them was done by him. If you watched the show you know how much hand to hand action was in it. Park started Ninja Kamui and brought only a small team of mostly CG composers with him. So after the first episodes got carried by Park's insane output and talent, there was no one left to help him finish the show and so they opted for 3d Meck fights that allowed them to finish despite the production of this show not allowing it from the jump. He basically tried to create a whole Anime almost by himself and the result was predictable. Good start, but once he had to take a break, so did the show fall off.
John Wick wouldn't have been as good without the scenes that allow John to actually display emotions. They're not a big deal but are pretty impt to show why John is doing what he is doing in the first place. So that the audience never looses perspective.
I binged john wick finally and was disappointed. His whole thing was to live for his wife, but after he took and cost countless lives, making his new goal to kill everyone in the company, he then chose to chose to give up living and save a friend. He didn't even finish killing everyone he said he would. And no longer stayed for his wife. It judt felt redundant idk

It was pretty clear from the start that the show had no substance. It only came as a shock to the battle shonen fans that were blinded by the cool well animated fights and thought “Now this is gonna be peak.” This is why people battle shonen fans get a bad rap, because it’s clear they can’t distinguish good writing from bad as long as it looks pretty. Lots of anime have no “substance” but are really enjoyable for its action and animation and that’s fine. Ninja Kamui removed good animation AND good action so it had nothing interesting left. A anime can have straight action and still be really enjoyable. But Ninja Kamui action looked terrible, AND uninteresting characters, AND no deep story to follow. What really got me, was the fights out of suit were so fast and exciting. Then they get these suits which are supposed to up there power level by so much and the fights get so slow. The fight between the MC and his "brother" was so dull when it should have been the b3est fight of the series.
The secret ninja arts could of become its gimmick depending on how they would expand on it and the lore but the suits became the main course..the stale bread with butter toast while we expected an A5 waygu steak.

I agree with everything. I honestly thought this show's cracks started to reveal themselves pretty early, but I figured, "If the animation is dope, I can appreciate it." It WAS dope (past tense emphasized), and I was hoping it would end on a high note. Higan vs. Zai was actually interesting, and considering that they had hyped up the main villain so much, I was hoping they'd go the 2d approach one last time and make it at least feel semi-impactful... but even that was wishful thinking lol.

This video doesn't answer it's own title, you basically made a review, never explained why it went from great to terrible. I agree with most of your points though, but I will say the reason it fell off was because the animation went to shit so the fights were not fun to watch anymore. The action animation and fights carried the show and it's totally fine, as long as your only saving grace doesn't fall off as well, which is exactly what happened here. My friend recommended this to me, and my first ask is… what’s it about? “ninja, animation good, good fights” and I was like “okay?” And then drops it after 1 episode to why should I care about the MC
I was a Freiren fanboi when people was saying this was better than it, and I'll admit the fights were awesome the first time it dropped but I got a feeling and I asked myself if they were going this hard first episode then surely they're gonna ran out of ideas for a good fight. And I wasn't wrong while freiren rode the typical build up anime Ninja Kamui fell of like a Front runner horse who has everyone gapped first 1000 meters of the race then ran out of steam and finishing 13th of 13th of the racers. I'm glad I set this aside and remained a Freiren fanboi.
I watched the first half of this anime, and it was incredible, but for various real life reasons I had to take a break from it for a while, when I eventually came back to finish the second half, I was left with "why was I watching this anime?" and "I remember this anime being much better than this, what happened?"
Garbage and not new are completely different things. The show was average from the start but people will call anything they dont like trash lol. This is why everyone isnt a reviewer
While I agree that Kamui fell off, I think the point of the video could be a bit cleaner and summed up to Static characters done wrong. It’s okay for a character to not evolve or devolve. Classic examples are Goku, Captain, America, and Superman. They may have stories told about them that may change a current objective but we can collectively agree that these characters have core values or traits that largely don’t change when you think about them. Your John Wick point was good and I think should have had more time to be fleshed out at as it was the most apt comparison given the character motivations and charisma (or lack thereof). The root of the issue is that static characters not only need worlds to change and shape to their will but also “rules” that don’t break the immersion of the viewer. Examples of Static characters that we love for never changing but change the world and people around them. Frieza Goku Luffy Captain America Superman Joker
The mechs killed it for me. It went from ninjas to mechanical. It no longer mattered that he had ninja skills, it was now just his super advanced mech. Didn't even bother finishing the series. Would have been much more interesting seeing him beat the mechs with his ninja skills, but they made the mechs too OP for that
They should've stayed away from the mech suits. The ninja art was the coolest part. The hand to hand fights were dope. Also Hells Paradise was dope. Gabimaru nearly lost to a 7 year old. He pretty much lost every fight before getting help
Same thing happened with Netflix's Yasuke. Excepted a semi-grounded samurai anime and they introduce magic and mechs out of nowhere which completely take over the show.
honestly, when you find out an anime is loosely based off of something or doesn't have any source material there's gonna be like an 80% chance that the show is gonna be shite. THOUGH i will say, the first epi was amazing
oof you are so right, I barely finished it, I don't mind the ending but those last few episodes were strange to say the least. I understand the concept but I don't think the armor was needed.
My only issue is the comment about Hells Paradise. While Gabimaru has won every fight, at least half of the "main cast" is already dead or mamed. And I am not sure if Gabi is going to survive that show either.
I watched a few episodes and I knew this show would drop the ball, the writing just wasn’t there. First couple of conflicts were cool, that’s about it.
This seems like a fuck ton of excs that doesn't understand anime where like "you know we need ninja mecha Suits, super weird bad guys that say the absolute stupidest stuff like you have to know just by him speaking he is a dumb evil bad guy and fuck the story let them fight in ever EP and just keeps the story going"
I mean the 1st episode really rained us in then it was all downhill from there... This is my first time actually see a show fall off while airing lol😂 i couldnt finish it myself aswell...
This video could of been shorter or a reel, the show sucked because they decided to introduce mecha suits.. The first 2-3 episodes were gas everything after that was ass. One thing i really liked though was how there wasn’t any filler episodes by not giving every character a back story, i might be alone on this but i watch anime for the action, not to connect with every character that’s introduced so i liked how they took that approach in this anime.
bro i hate when they put on the mech suits like wtf the animation quality tanks hard when they do that and the fights literally become unexciting when that happens because all of a sudden higans ninja techniques become useless in the beginning i was pretty excited because the fight scenes and the powers on display were cool i mean u got ninjas with ninjutsu with taijutsu mixed in, definitely some Naruto inspiration in there, and it looked pretty sick cause ive been wanting another ninja anime like naruto but in the modern day.......and i thought that that was exactly what i was getting...............but aparently not as they literally throw out their cool ninjutsu power system pretty quickly in favor of something retarded like generic mech suits. all of a sudden their no longer ninjas.......bro how do u establish a power system at the start but very quickly throw it away not even half way through the season, it would be like if naruto, straight after the land of waves arc, abandoned chakra as the primary power system and started using mechs and gadgets instead for no reason..........
Bro what hells paradise doesn't make gabimaru always win thats a horrible take and you can say that about dragon ball too with someone from the good side always getting revived or goku always winning or naruto they are the main character of course they win most of there fights and actually gabimaru is weaker then that girl he fought and later on in the stories he almost dies multiple times and if we are talking predictable that is the most unpredictable anime ever because you literally have no clue who could die

It’s just the ninja mechs that kills it for me
Nice. Keep doing reviews
I watched the first half of this anime, and it was incredible, but for various real life reasons I had to take a break from it for a while, when I eventually came back to finish the second half, I was left with "why was I watching this anime?" and "I remember this anime being much better than this, what happened?"
the tension with the mech fights was charging the batteries, but they took that away... the mech fights that bad
Loved this video. I dropped the anime after episode 7 for this exact same reasons.
Hells paradise is goated wym
ong he lost me a lil there
The same thing happened to Yasuke. Soon as the mechs and magic stuff shows up, its over.
how dare you compare this to hell's paradise
Actually it's, "How Ninja Kamui was garbage from the very first episode but nobody noticed cause they were dazzled by visuals and choreography."
Garbage and not new are completely different things. The show was average from the start but people will call anything they dont like trash lol. This is why everyone isnt a reviewer
Finally someone who agrees with me. I was hoping it got better but I lasted until episode 3. There was no substance period.
Frieza
Goku
Luffy
Captain America
Superman
Joker
Nah the hell's paradise mc doesn't always wins. He got dogwalked many times
It went from being like “ninja assassin” to being a robot beat ‘em up anime I wish they would have never introduced the robotic suits
Yea I didn’t even finish this. I’m sad because this really had potential in the beginning.
The mecha ninja suits were a stupid addition to the show.
Why the mechs tho 😫. We just wanted crazy h2h combat + cool ninja techniques.
Same thing happened with Netflix's Yasuke. Excepted a semi-grounded samurai anime and they introduce magic and mechs out of nowhere which completely take over the show.
Man, I said the same thing. It's like after 4 or 5 episodes, they just wanted to get it over with.
honestly, when you find out an anime is loosely based off of something or doesn't have any source material there's gonna be like an 80% chance that the show is gonna be shite. THOUGH i will say, the first epi was amazing
oof you are so right,
I barely finished it, I don't mind the ending but those last few episodes were strange to say the least.
I understand the concept but I don't think the armor was needed.
I watched one episode and dropped it. I’m all set with “What if Frank Castle became a Ninja”
My only issue is the comment about Hells Paradise. While Gabimaru has won every fight, at least half of the "main cast" is already dead or mamed. And I am not sure if Gabi is going to survive that show either.
If your title ain’t the most accurate way to describe my feelings for this show
yaboyroshi mentioned!!!
0:58 bro tweaking😂
The reason the show sucked in the middle is because people work hard to get a job but get lazy once they get it.
When they incorporate those ninja suits killed the shit!
The way you say Throfinn is pretty funny. Never heard it pronounced that way
“Thorfeeen” 😂
W halo soundtrack background music for video essay
I watched a few episodes and I knew this show would drop the ball, the writing just wasn’t there. First couple of conflicts were cool, that’s about it.
This seems like a fuck ton of excs that doesn't understand anime where like "you know we need ninja mecha Suits, super weird bad guys that say the absolute stupidest stuff like you have to know just by him speaking he is a dumb evil bad guy and fuck the story let them fight in ever EP and just keeps the story going"
Total agree. I switched of when the tech came in
People be glazing to compare it to John Wick. The intro was the best part about the anime lol.
10:00 whats their at. im glad im not the only one who lost interested in it after a while
Yaboiroshi
This level of falling off has to be studied. And this isnt a ride the wave of internet hate, this was atrocious.
I hear Made in Abyss, I like
bro i hate when they put on the mech suits like wtf the animation quality tanks hard when they do that and the fights literally become unexciting when that happens because all of a sudden higans ninja techniques become useless
in the beginning i was pretty excited because the fight scenes and the powers on display were cool i mean u got ninjas with ninjutsu with taijutsu mixed in, definitely some Naruto inspiration in there, and it looked pretty sick cause ive been wanting another ninja anime like naruto but in the modern day.......and i thought that that was exactly what i was getting...............but aparently not as they literally throw out their cool ninjutsu power system pretty quickly in favor of something retarded like generic mech suits. all of a sudden their no longer ninjas.......bro how do u establish a power system at the start but very quickly throw it away not even half way through the season, it would be like if naruto, straight after the land of waves arc, abandoned chakra as the primary power system and started using mechs and gadgets instead for no reason..........
Bro what hells paradise doesn't make gabimaru always win thats a horrible take and you can say that about dragon ball too with someone from the good side always getting revived or goku always winning or naruto
they are the main character of course they win most of there fights and actually gabimaru is weaker then that girl he fought and later on in the stories he almost dies multiple times and if we are talking predictable that is the most unpredictable anime ever because you literally have no clue who could die
