      As much as I LOVE that line, the scene leading up to it always bugged me. Loosing the keys doesn't seem like a huge deal when The Doctor has been able to open the doors with a snap of his fingers for centuries at that point. Hell, we've seen Clara do it once in the 50th. You can chalk it up to dream logic, but then what was her plan before he put her under? Telepathic control circuits?

    I don't know if it was deliberate, but I always heard the faintest religious undertones to Capaldi's Doctor. So very different, and yet so very human, in his constant uncertainty with his own nature...
    I know some people complained that Tennant's Doctor was a messianic figure (Series 3's finale springs to mind), but between 12th's "Did you think betraying me would make a difference?" And his later speech in Inversion of the Zygons "You're all the same, 'look at me, I'm unforgivable', well, here's the unforeseeable: After everything you've done, I forgive you."
    Its almost... I don't know. Godlike. Deific.
    I used to be so certain. So confident. But most days these days, I don't know if I believe in a God or not. Or what I believe.
    But I think if I did, and if one existed, they might sound to me, a little like that. It always felt a little moving to me.

    4:49 This is my fav line in all of Who and i use it to people myself "Do you think i care about you so little that betraying me makes any difference" - Remember the Doctor is a superhero, his power is having 2 hearts (he loves and forgives us Humans because we are flaud by nature) - season 11 lost that.

    Ive always envisioned Moffat sending emails back and forth to his production team with a picture of Missy at the wheel of the car after running over Danny laughing 🤣 This episode was very controversial here in the UK & was criticised by many parents for being too dark for Doctor Who. It certainly pushed it's boundaries but imo after heaven was revealed not to be real heaven then its not as bad but I have never considered new Who as a children's show but a family show if memory serves me this episode even aired after 8pm at the time too. This finale suits the tone of 12 & S8 at this point.

    I find it strange when people say they don't feel a connection between people that they watch on a screen, especially in a sci-fi show like Doctor Who. It's not a drama, though Steven Moffat really tried to make it that some of the time. There wasn't too much time for them to really connect, because the show isn't about them. Clara and Danny have a fairly believable dynamic, though they're very different from one another.

  • @jareds122
    @jareds122 5 лет назад +1

    I agree with you about Danny. I never felt a connection with him so I wasn’t sad that he died. I felt sad for Clara, and those scenes where she’s throwing away the keys and then back in the Tardis she looks so heartbroken, I couldn’t help but get emotional. That whole exchange is one of my favorite parts of the season. I really liked Clara and 11’s dynamic and their banter, and they had some amazing moments together, but when The Doctor says that Clara betraying him couldn’t change the way he felt about her, I really felt like 12 was Clara’s Doctor, the same way 11 would always be Amy’s Doctor. I hope that made sense. It made sense in my head.
    Also, Michelle Gomez is everything! I love her so much.

    The dream(?) sequence with Clara and the keys is one of my ALL TIME favorite scenes! It's so tense and dark. She's absolutely desperate and does (or, shows intention to do) something unforgivable by almost anyone's standards (and that alone makes Clara SO human and so compelling as a companion) but, as we soon see, it is NOT unforgivable to the Doctor, which, in my opinion, devastates Clara even more than when she thought he told her to go to hell. I forgot if it was Capaldi or Moffat who said that the "do you think I care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference" line is basically the Doctor telling Clara how much he loves her. We see how there is this bittersweet element of devotion to his feelings for Clara. Another thing that stands out in this scene is the outstanding acting, especially when you contrast their exchange in the dream state to the one back in the Tardis. Both exchanges are so powerful but so different, the first angry and raw, the second gentle and vulnerable. Peter and Jenna just knocked it out of the ballpark, their acting and chemistry is insanely good. And ah yes you finally know Missy's identity! I must say, Missy > the Master. Both are great, but I didn't like the stories that were written for the Master. Plus Michelle Gomez absolutely makes the role her own and just kills it. 12+Missy have such a great dynamic.
