Sharing Julie Wilkins with my puppy buyers helping them learn to bath, blow and understand grooming. I tell everyone this is the best poodle groomer and just the nicest human being. We all just love Julie Wilkins.
Best video on trimming a poodle's face!!! (didn't have to do his feet this time round) Have watched quite a few videos on trimming a poodle's face and just couldn't get it right. In this video Julie simplifies the process and it works! So quick and easy and unlike the dog in the video my dog doesn't sit still. The only thing I did different was use a No 10 blade (1.8mm). Anyway, thanks so much!
Julie, I just discovered your wonderful and informative videos! It's Nov. 2018, now...and it looks like you haven't posted anything for about 9 months, Your grooming videos are straight-forward and your commentary is clear, easy to understand and so very helpful. PLEASE don't stop making these grooming videos as they are the best ones online! Thank you!
Thank you for all the videos. They have helped me improve my grooming skills. I would love to see you groom young poodles as they learn to accept grooming. I want to improve my skills with wiggly puppies so that they learn to enjoy grooming and not pull away from having the area around their nose and chin clipped. All other areas have been easier to condition using a lick mat as a distraction 😊
This information is very helpful because I’m about to get a poodle and instead of take me to the groomer I would like to try to groom it myself so this is some great information you’re giving because this will surely help me when I groom my poodle
Great video. So glad I am seeing this. I am a pet owner who DIY at home grooming. This is really a fantastic demonstration. Thank you a million times :-).
@@juliewilkinsgrooming First, thank you very much for sharing your awesome skills! I have a 1 year old standard poodle and I am having a hard time finding a groomer that can see her monthly. I am trying to do some myself between her grooming appointments so she doesn't become a matted mess. Having said all that, I have what is likely a really dumb question for you - can the clippers cut her skin? I want to cut her feet and face down like you showed but I'm scared that I'm going to cut her skin. What are your thoughts about that? Thank you in advance, and for all the help you've already given me. 😊
@@amyjavorsky9938 you could, if you are not careful, or the dog jerks it’s head, or if you are using a bad/ dull blade or poor quality clipper. Very hard to nic the dog with the type of clipper and the setting I am using…….
We adopted a standard poodle a couple of weeks ago and thank you very much for this explanation - I shaved our fur baby's face today. Still to go with feet and tail, but for now, it was awesome.
Wow, I'm impressed, we're on our second standard poodle baby and I am still a bit hesitant only because I feel I need the proper equipment to do this well, like the table and leashes! Bravo to you!
Thank you for taking the time to actually explain to us what you are doing. I still feel afraid to clip the face but perhaps now I will get brave and try. - maybe??
I've been clipping my Standard since the pandemic shutdown and it's been fun and funny and a little scarey. I am worried about nicking her, especially around her lips, below her eyes, her feet and tush. It doesn't appear that you are doing anything in particular to avoid a problem - Any tips for an amateur? (I use the same Wahl clippers that you have.) Thank you for these wonderfully helpful posts.
Hi Julie I am a retired groomer I have a toy poodle and I habe purchased the bravura with a 5 in 1 blade can you please tell me what is 30, 40, 5 etc on the blade as I don’t have a clue, I e searched everywhere maybe you could let me know say going from left to right on the blade once I know I can start clipping. Love your videos by the way ❤
The longest setting, which I believe is all the way to the left would probably be the equivalent of a number 9 or 10 blade, the shortest setting, which would be all the way to the right would be the equivalent of a 40 blade :-) middle setting would probably be around a 15
yes, it would be the equivalent of a #30 on the 5 position clipper, but if using a regular body clipper I would go with a #15 as a regular #30 can grab the skin
Good demo, very detailed clipping and explanation, thank you. I find Wahl an unreliable company and use the Andis Vida clipper instead for detailing. I also have an Andis AGC2 for main body work but it would work fine on large poodles, not the smaller ones though. I'm going to switch to Heiniger Saphir or Opal when I can afford it. Good clippers and they don't heat up much. A bit too much talking in this video. Less is better. We can see what is being done.
Julie, our groomer has just retired! I would like to groom my 12 year old dog myself as groomers you can trust, are hard to find in Sydney. Can you please make a video, for pensioners who just want an overall clip at say, no 4 comb, (except for the top not and ears and shaved feet). But a video that takes you from Wow to Go, please?
Philip1949S check out leadingedge-dog-show-academy.teachable.com/ I have a number of videos on there and will be adding more, the Retriever Clip, Sporting Clip, and German Clip are on there now!
Glad to find your personal channel Julie. I first found you over the German trim. Was going to suggest you load that one up here, but I see your link to it. That is a lovely trim. I have it on my Klein poodle. But I do keep a Tzar Nicholas shaped beard and 'stach on him. I like for people to know his is a boy at first look. The German Trim and facial hair does the trick! So happy you are posting your techniques for us.
Great video, but every tutorial vid I've watched has featured a very placid poodle. I've had poodles for 30 years and recently adopted an 8 month old poodle who is a nightmare to even comb or brush. Any tips to help us to make it a less stressful experience for her?
Because the quick is longer in your dogs nails, you'll have to trim a tiny part of it once every week or so so that you can get the quick to recede. Once the nails are short enough, then you only have to clip them every month or two depending on how quick your dogs nails grow. Some grow faster than others.
The longer the coat the farther back you would want to hold the dryer, more so with the force dryer because it will snarl up the longer coat the closer it gets
It scares me that people will try to do this at home. The way you shave in between the skin folds and along the lip is NOT for the beginner to just buy a pair of Wahl clippers and attempt without having taken a dog grooming course first. You should really caution your viewers and make a disclaimer before the video begins.
Miss S I’m 15 and i clip my poodles feet and face just fine they look great and I’ve never nicked her. Plus I’m always careful while doing her lip area and the webbing in between toes.
When I first started, I thought the guard would guard against such accidents but I really wounded my poor Sacha with trying to get in the difficult stretchy area between belly and where leg joins as the skin went between the teeth of the guard and cut her right open. After several stitches, and a month off swimming in the summer, she got her stitches out and then the wound split open the next day, more stitches and another month off swimming. I ruined her summer and my family is almost willing to forgive me a couple of years later. Live and learn but a caution would probably be a good idea. Or, I should have watched these videos before I even tried.
Good lord. Not everyone needs to be protected from learning a new skill. If you're not comfortable shaving your dog, leave it to the professionals. If you want to attempt it, go for it.
Fun fact: the groomers you see doing it did it for a "first time" once too! Groomers arent magical beings born with clippers in their hand experienced from birth 😊

I learned alot thank you!!! I am a new dog groomer and yes I will admit I am still learning alot of tips. Thank you so much for sharing :) ❤
I'm a new groomer as well. Completed my certification in December. Thank you for these learning videos.
I love the way you describe everything your doing!
Best face clean ever. Thank You
great tutorial, excellent descriptions, step-y-step
This gives me such great detail!!!! Im learning how to groom and its hard to learn from my co workers when we are so busy.
Excellent vidéo. Easy To understand and follow.
Thank you so much!
This dog is soooo happy to be groomed. Lovely to watch
what a good girl!
What a great dog! No way our 18m old Irish doodle will let me do this to him. But I’m still gonna try. Great video.

Started with Dobermans, then labs. Now poodles 🐩. Wouldn’t have anything but a poodle now. My pood makes my hunting buddies labs look like amateurs

Interesting that you said funny. I cracked up watching the face clipping part. I have a 10 year old Moyen.
Also when she said "and here's a nice butt-shot for ya." cracked me up.
How could her ear's hair looks so fluffy!
I come up higher on my mini's neck as he has a curve to his neck and it hides this flaw.

That poodles face and butt are naked. The tutorial on the paws was great.
Can you please mention what blade number would be that setting you have in your clipper?
It would be a 30 blade as the arcos go up to a 40

How did you get her so chill with grooming?
I'm not a poodle expert but shes probably been used to grooming since she was a puppy
You have to start when they are 5 weeks old.
We start clipping faces and feet when they are 3 weeks old so they get used to it
Oli Rivers You have to start with them when they are small puppies. You might try treats.

The second to the closest setting on the Arco or bravura
Can ypu please provide the name of these clipper? Thanks

I thought dogs need their whiskers to feel around
Cats do, it’s illegal in places to cut or shave cats whiskers as it messes up their balance and coordination but dogs are different
The only reason why wolves have whiskers in the wild is to help when hunting prey. Owned dogs obviously dont hunt for food.
