I have an almost 6 month old Standard Poodle and this is just how the breed is. Training is simple, not stressful, very calm and easy. She’s been like this since the day we brought her home. Even when she’s hyper, it’s a very controlled hyper. Amazing dogs.
Many thanks for your uploads! Here only one remark: the watering of the coat should start from the bottom-up, so from feet towards the back and head. Otherwise, you risk the coat 'closing in' and not getting the roots and skin washed and rinsed properly. Of course, one wetted, the rinsing goes from up-to-bottom. Poodles have 'water-tight' coats made for swimming and fetching game even in cold autumn waters and lakes.
Oh my golly gosh, what an amazingly good dog. He is so good. I do wish that my girl was half a good as him. He looks fabulous after his bath. Thankyou for sharing. 🤗🐩
I have never seen such a well-behaved dog.....kudos to you as the owner, and to him for having such a sweet disposition. I am learning how to groom my miniature black pooodle, and this teaching video has been a tremendous help. Thanks for showing the products you use and for showing the drying process as well. I recently purchased a hv dryer, and can't believe the difference in how beautiful my Champ looks after using it. I also began using combs to clip him, and my goodness, what a difference it makes. He looks beautiful now. But he is not as well behaved as your fella is, and so I'm going to work on it, I suppose by being more patient with him. Did you use any particular method to get him to be so compliant? Thank you again for such a well-done video.
This is should be the standard of behavioralist for grooming, I notice your poodle has been very desensitized from grooming and it’s amazing very well job!
What kind of dryer is that? I have a 20 pound poodle that i need to learn how to groom...can,y hair dryer work pm him? My groomer just moved away and until I can find another one I will need to do..
Chris Orreauva do you think I could use a regular blow dryer on my dog? I've never had a poodle.. we had big Shepard's prior that always dried out in the sunshine.
Start them young and just keep positive about it all, treats after or during and bath them often. I used to bath him every week in show coat and every 2 weeks in pet trim and he was the best at just getting on with it and standing like a statue the whole time
The first bath and groom is usually done by the breeder (before the puppy is given to its new owner) at the age around 8 weeks. At that time, even a standard can be washed in a sink and dried with usual hair dryer (not too hot, not too cold). So the dogs began to view their grooming as a part of life, and actually enjoy it. From the moment it comes home, a gentle daily brush and handling is good and makes the dog confident it will not hurt at all, but is rather enjoyable. Rolling up and down his coat with the clipper or a dryer (not actually touching), will get the dog used to the noise. Poodles have so-called puppy hair (soft, not easily matted) for the first months. Then comes the period of 'bad-hair-months' when you think that nothing works..But don't despair, it will get better and you have had time to practise over the first months. There are many 'professional' dog dryers for sale and really worth a buy, especially if you like to keep your poodle's coat or any part of it long. The coat has to be dried to its root and straightened with s slicker (available also with gum ends not to scratch the skin). Otherwise, the wet roots of the coat will curl up and mat the coat. From mats, all bad things fill follow like skin diseases and sores, dandruff.. Good luck! And if something goes wrong, rest assured that the coat will grow back sooner than you notice.
He’s been having baths since he was 4 weeks old and I used a human hair dryer at first and worked up to using the blaster so he’s very used to the grooming process. I wouldn’t recommend a slicker with the balls on the end as they can catch and pull the hair and they also cause more static to the coat. I show which slicker is the absolute best for poodle type coats in the video, it’s called Chris Christensen Big G slicker
Chris damn that’s cool. Have you heard of a shower attachment that actually works? My shop is closed down rn and bathing my two standards is a pain in the ass rn. I even caved and got the K9 III. 😂

I just got my first standard poodle puppy today, I had a miniature poodle before. What kind of shampoo, conditioner and oils do you use on your beautiful baby?
I use Shanzi dogs shampoo at the moment, made by one of my friends and it’s a great shampoo. The Melanie Newman range is supposed to be really good too
I'm going to be getting a poodle puppy in about a year. I plan on getting them used to the grooming process right away, but do you by any chance have specific tips to help them get more comfortable with it?
Just keep everything positive and do it every week. Lots of treats and praise and try to keep things short. So don’t try to bath and a hair cut all in one.
@@orreauva3934 sounds good. could I do bath and blow out together to get them used to those happening back to back or would that be too much? I'm not sure where that would leave me with the air-dried fur though if that happened, because I'd have to get them wet again to straighten the hair and style it. also would it be too soon to do a bath one day and the haircut the following day? or would I have to offset them more
@@lukaphoenix1568 For puppies I use my stand dryer to dry them fully until they get used to the process and then I try them with the blaster. I think you just have to judge it yourself on when they are ready. You can do the haircut the next day, I think that's what I used to do
@@orreauva3934 that makes sense. I haven't gotten my stand drier yet, so I'm not sure how the heat settings on them typically work, but wouldn't you risk irritating the skin by having heat used for long enough to dry the whole coat?
