  • A brief guide on creating Shepard Tones from most audio sources. I used Pro Tools but I imagine this same process is easily replicated regardless of what DAW you choose.

The Soundtoys Effect Rack is one of the most wonderful things in music production. I was just thinking of making a Shepard video for my Spanish-speaking audience and your video just gave me a few more ideas. THANKS!

Thanks. Looking forward to trying this. I didn’t really understand what was happening in a shepherd tone after watching other videos but this was really helpful.

I'm trying to do the same thing in premier pro, but to no avail. I have the pitches and fades sync right, but it just sounds like one fading out and one fading in right after.

Nice tutorial. I'm always looking for ways to streamline this workflow. I usually just reverse my rising shepard tone to get the falling one or visa versa. Saves me having to repeat the process.

Thanks! I also have track presets created so generally I just slide the audio into place and am good to go.

Thank you for the tutorial! It's a fascinating little audio trick that I'm absolutely going to use moving forward.
Is there a minimum length of a clip before the shepard tone just kind of falls apart? I'm trying to create one at around 2 seconds in length and am having a very hard time getting the loop to sound seamless, however, I didn't have any problems with a clip that was around 6 seconds in length

Can you please do many more of these for sound design ?
Forgive me I am at this stuff
I just recorded noise from the fan with iPhone app call voice 7 pro which has a option to allow me to
    Record 96hz
Then I just upload these my Mac used dropbox
    1.very close up
    2.modernly close
    3.farther away
    4. Farthest
Even though though the fan is blow How would you blend all these together by using all 4 clips to create a very dynamic range of Give the illusion of the noise sucking in ?

Great tutorial on Sheperd Tone. Thank you for the upload :)
Just had one doubt. If we are making Sheperd tone using piano notes in Cubase, is there any specific way to set the velocity of the notes? What i have done is used 3 octaves of the same sequence and i set higher octave velocity descending and lower octave ascending and the middle octave all notes on highest velocity. But im not getting quite the effect.
Appreciate if you could reply :)
