    Beautiful example of a narrowboat. Love the colour of wood. It creates a happy environment to live in I feel. I see it’s now sold so someone is now living the dream 😊

      Chris Perry~Where do you live currently? We are in the US and would absolutely love to retire there on a narrowboat. As a matter of fact, that is the plan. Just wondering if you are already living there with plans to move onto a narrowboat or if you are making a bigger move as we would be. Glad for you either way!

    Beautiful boat, even if I do prefer reverse layout. My only qualm would be the view from the tiller looked obscured.

    • @spencerwilton5831
      @spencerwilton5831 4 года назад

      secretsymphony obscured by what? Just about every narrowboat has very similar sight lines, given the air draft is usually within a few inches of every other boat, and the tiller is generally around hip height, and the rear deck is usually about a foot above the waterline.

      @@spencerwilton5831 The roof hatch looked particularly high from the helmsman's position. That's all. Sadly, I'm not on the water. Just an arm seat enthusiast dreaming about one day living on a boat.

    • @MichaelsMustang
      @MichaelsMustang 3 года назад

      I think the view along the roof was certainly reduced however I think a lot of that was where the camera was positioned. If you think about how tall an average person is they should be above that box and with how well this boat was desigbed I doubt the builder made such an error.

    • @MichaelsMustang
      @MichaelsMustang 3 года назад

      The canans are not deep at all. In the "cruising the cut" videos David fell in once and is standing, in others they show CRT workers standing doing remidial work. The rivers are tidal and deeper so a life jacket required. The only real exception is locks, they are as deep as the incine is but again if you are worried you can wer a vest. You should confirm all this with the CRT they should be able to answer all your qyestions. canalrivertrust.org.uk/

    So whats the average mpg for a barge?And can you use red diesel?

    • @spencerwilton5831
      @spencerwilton5831 4 года назад +3

      toppertruthio About 1.5 litres per hour. Perhaps thee miles per litre. For the time being you can use red diesel for propulsion but self declare how much you use and therefore pay duty on. The EU took the UK to court over the issue though (I fail to see what it has to do with them, but there we are) and red diesel will soon become illegal in propulsion tanks. How the change over will be managed is still under discussion- many boats use a substantial amount of diesel for power generation and heating, even cooking, often all from the same tank. I suspect the whole lot will be taxed at the maximum rate, but hope I am proved wrong!

    I've read many comments on several channels that say you can barely fit a narrowboat longer than 57 ft. into most locks. Is this true? I love this boat and am hoping to possibly retire on one, which my wife and I are trying to research. Can anyone tell me if this is true? I would want to be able to access every lock there is of course. Thank you from the US! We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy from this awful pandemic. Tim and Tammie Miller

    • @pittorivers906
      @pittorivers906 4 года назад +1

      Hi Tim, 90% of the locks fit up to a 70ft boat, however a small section of the canal network has 58ft locks. That being said, you can supposedly fit a boat up to 60ft in, as you can go in at an angle (although I've not tried personally). So yes, for complete coverage, a 58ft narrowboat is required

    • @MichaelsMustang
      @MichaelsMustang 3 года назад

      rugbyboats.co.uk/lock-sizes/
      This is Rughby Boats own map, my estimate is 95% of the system and if you read the blurb they even suggest a way to see the four that are not available, personally I doubt many see 100% anyway. The longer boats off larger rooms and or more feactures so it really boils down to that, this is a perfecrt live aboard boat.
